SLASH Endorses BARACK OBAMA For President - Oct. 1, 2008
According to The Pulse of Radio, VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash expressed his support for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in a new interview with England's NME Radio. Slash remarked, "I think Obama's great. It's the first time in eight years (since George W. Bush came into power) I've heard somebody speak English. I think it's refreshing to see someone who's reasonably intelligent come in. I agree with a lot of (Obama's) stuff. There are a couple of things I'm concerned with, but all things considered I think he's the best candidate for the job."

Slash also talked about the progress of his new solo album, saying he's got demos recorded of 14 songs. He plans to enlist a number of different singers to appear on the CD, although he has not yet revealed any names.

VELVET REVOLVER is still looking for a new vocalist to replace Scott Weiland before beginning work on its third studio effort. Slash said he wasn't sure if his album would arrive before the next VELVET REVOLVER disc.

Slash will also release a series of new guitars, the Gibson and Epiphone Les Paul Goldtop range, on October 7.

I won't vote for him based on that. Nothing against him personally. I just posted this because everyone seems to think if you support McCain you are either ignorant or a racist. I'm neither. McCain is not perfect and I don't agree with everything he stands for, but more than I agree with Obama. So, who care's what color the candidates are. I mean Obama is half white right? He is an eloquent speaker and does a good job of never answering any question directly, but just makes statements like "We are going to change Washington!" or "I believe in lower taxes and socialized healthcare" (which is impossible).

I have noticed that McCain supporters are willing to see that there are serious faults in McCain, but every Obama supporter thinks Obama walks on water and is going to wave a magic wand over America and fix everthing. Im not really a member of ANY party, but first thing's first:
1.) George Bush did fuck some stuff up, but we havent had a terrorist attack in 7 years.
2.) Obama wants universal health care. That means less people go to college for medicine and you have people goin door to door giving flu shots so if your last name starts with Z or you have a really high SSN, you are fucked.
3.) Obama also wants to tax the rich and the otherwise upper echelon of American society and give the money back to the poor American people. These just happen to be the people that own big oil companies and corporations and services we take advantage of everyday. So basically when he applies these taxes (and you know Nancy Pelosi will approve them because she wants Barack's rod), things like gas prices and everyday food prices and other stuff we take advantage of every day will be jacked through the roof. Before half of Obama's first term is over I guarantee you that gas will be over $10 a gallon and you will be buying bread and cheese by the slice. And because of all of this, unemployment will rise, homelessness will rise, foreclosures will skyrocket and the stock market will crash beyond the point of repair.
4.) There is too much government involvement in my life and the lastthing i need is more because Obama & Biden want me to live how they feel is suitable. Remember: back in the 80's it was Tipper Gore who spearheaded the whole campaign to bring censorship to our music, movies, television, etc.

So at this point i hope at least one person is still reading this because everyone needs to understand the threat Obama poses to American well-being and should he be elected, well lets just say this is prosperous times compared to what will be. And all of you can obviously tell who i am voting for.

Could you please identify for me, exactly on which 90% of Bush's policies did Obama agree with? Solid facts here and sources please, not speculative crap that you read on a blog that someone else read from a different blog that heard it from this one dude.

If Bush was a great president, then why are we an economic shithole right now? Wouldn't it be in his interest to keep check on what is going on with the economy in his own country that he is pretty much running? It's not like the recession just appeared overnight and all of a sudden he's gotta pick up the phone. The collapse has been coming for a few years now, and wasn't hard to foresee.

And as for the war, if it's been such a success, then why are there still bombs going off in Baghdad on almost a daily basis (and please don't try to say that it's what the "left wing liberal" media wants me to believe).
This might be a broken record question, but why not just take the money spent on the war effort and invest it into tighter, better border control? Keeps the terrorists as well as illegal immigrants out of the country - two birds with one stone. It would be cheaper and more effective. The rest of the war budget could be invested into more lucrative areas like education, science.

The United States is no longer respected, nor feared. I doubt we'll ever be able to make anyone fear us, but it's never too late to regain respect.

jojo, Illinois does not have a 10.25 tax rate. Rates vary by county, and only Cook County (which means Chicago and some of the burbs) has this rate. I'm paying 8.25 in downstate, so if you have a problem with the sales tax, take it up with Daley, not Obama.

And I love all these people who call Obama a Muslim, whisper about his dangerous associations, and act like they're the ones who really know what's going on. Worried about crazy pastors? How about all those scumbags that McCain has sucked up to (Dobson, Robertson, Hagee, etc.)?

You can go on all you want about "socialized health care", which is a term Obama has never used, btw, but the fact is that no matter who takes office, the American health care system is going to massively change. Even big business wants more government involvement in health care.

But go ahead, listen to your non-conformist metal music and then go pull the lever for a warmongering, 72 year old bumbler who can't even run a damn campaign right. Go ahead and be a tool.

If Iraq develops into a full fledged Democracy and helps to modernize the Arab/Islamic mindset, it will be to the credit of one person...GWBush. I remember my Democratic family being upset, to tears in some cases, that Reagan was elected, saying we would be in WWIII within a year or two, but what happened? He won the cold war for the West which ultimately freed millions of people from communism. Democrats have a terrible history of crying wolf.

Democrats have bad mouthed this country and President since the beginning of the war. They have said the war was lost, that our military were cold blooded murdering thugs, that Fannie and Freddie were in no danger of collapse. Frickin nObama was trying to pull an end around by publicly stating that he would pull out of Iraq asap no matter what but then privately asking the Iraqi's to delay a deal on getting the troops out until he is elected President.

Trial lawyers have bled the system dry by suing for millions and millions. who do you think pays for that? Also, almost every other country (might be EVERY other for all I know) has caps on what the drug companies can charge. therefore even though the whole world benefits from US medicine, the US citizens are the only way they can collect money. So while people are screaming about high drug prices, keep in mind they have to practically give them away in the rest of the world.

What the fuck has happened with that country?
I know the facts, however the questions comes back and back and back.

Used to love the US back in the 90s, always enjoyed staying there.
Working there after university for a year, having friends there.

Now I hardly see anything but the people tearing themselves apart and sheer hostility against anything "un-american", whatever this is.

None of this two morons will save the US. One is nice for the show but lacks knowledge and will therefore make mistakes.
The other one will lead the US further down its path, and when he dies a person will take over that even scares the shit out of your allies.

The US will be doing MUCH better the year you have a strong third or fourth party, and maybe even a coalition. Often enough it takes more time and might not lead to the ideal result, but in the end everybody can live with it more or less.

Yes, I am not US-American. And no dickhead is gonna tell me to shut my hole - I will fuckin speak my mind whenever I want and whereever I want.
It reminds me of socialist attitudes to prevent people from speaking their mind just because you don't like it.

Hell, Hussein Obama the Muslim - if this is a way of discussing you're better off with the monkeys in your local zoo, but I fear they will pound your ass to make sure you keep your mouth shut.

The rest of the ENTIRE world and me included are sick of that "AMERICA uber alles" attitude. Can't bear that shit any longer.
But I'll gladly appreciate the time when the US stood for open minds, creativity, freedom (of speech) and people thinking for themselves.
And now bash me if it makes me feel better. I am convinced on my opinion, which is founded on more than one ground, and it won't change a thing.

Bush has not protected us from another 9/11. That is like saying Reagan protected us from a 9/11. Under him we stopped terrorist plans of attacking CIA headquarters, FBI headquarters, LAX, the Lincoln tunnel, the Washington bridge, 10 planes from England heading to U.S. getting loaded with bombs, etc. Bush told us to go shopping while his buddies at Enron were stealing money and Haliburton was cleaning up.

Bush is by far the worst president in the history of the USA. His corruption, his stupidity and his greed have made us hated by the world and in serious financial debt to other countries. And McCain has been right by his side.
I like and respect McCain but we can't handle more of what we have had in the past 8 years.

Just because hitler was a brilliant speaker does not mean that his beliefs weren't completely corrupt and twisted. Harvard is a great educational institute but brilliance and odd beliefs do coincide. Please believe and look at history. History has combined genuis and insanity many times and in fact has been referred to as "a lethal combination" time and time again. This has also been proven time and time again. I am not saying that Obama is insane but Harvard University is hardly relevant when the belief systems are hardly in tact. That is what my focus in on as opposed to 'Harvard" being such a huge factor here.

Let's agree that politics doesn't have a place on a metal board. But, let's also agree that musicians - as any other citizen of this country - have a right to freely express their opinions.

I think it's cool that Slash supports Obama. McCain's an idiot who picked someone even more stupid than he to be his VP. Someone asked for something concrete that Obama intends to do - I'll give you a couple: tax cuts for everyone making less than 150K; guaranteed health care for every citizen; withdrawal from the money pit that is Iraq; appointments to the Supreme Court that aren't in the tank for the corporations; appointments to his cabinet and government that aren't in the tank for the oil companies or insurance industries.

And, Obama hasn't voted with Bush 90% of the time - he's voted with Bush 40% of the time. McCain has voted with Bush 95% of the time over the last eighteen months, and has voted with Bush 90% of the time over 8 years.

People here say stupid stuff like 'we haven't had an attack if 7 years' - uh, what about the attack that we had in 2001? I mean, that was on Bush's watch, right? The first World Trade Center attack happened SIX WEEKS into Clinton's term, and you didn't hear him whining about how it was Bush I's fault - no, instead, he went out and busted the people that did it. They're in jail NOW.

What about Osama bin Laden? What about Enron? What about the illegal eavesdropping on American citizens? What about Gitmo? What about Abu Graib? What about Katrina? What about Iraq? What about the attorney firings at the Justice Department - do you think it's a coincidence that some of the worst things to EVER happen in this country, happened on W.'s watch?

I don't think so.

Doctor Doom was an evil genius, I'll give you that.

Other than that, if you have no evidence to back up your attempted connection between OBAMA's POSSIBLE EVIL OR IMMORAL BELIEF SYSTEM and HIS GENIUS (neither of which you have proven or even supported in the slightest), your post is irrelevant to a discussion of the candidates.

Got you. And, maybe we should ask Slash for an opinion of his that really matters - like, who's singing for VR? :)

As for the bailout, to be honest, I think we as citizens should tell Henry Paulsen to shove it. I realize that there's all this talk of financial collapse, but, as my wife pointed out, nobody has actually said how or why that would happen. Clearly, it's not a great thing to slip into a recession (or depression, for that matter), but, what good comes from giving the a-holes that made the mess MORE? Let 'em fail (or more likely, go into bankruptcy) - somebody else will step into the void. But, this smells bad to me - like Bush and his cronies are trying to get one more big check before he gets out of office. Paulsen was CEO of Goldman Sachs just 18 months ago - and they're part of who's getting bailed out!

I say, make the bailout for the PEOPLE. Force the mortgage lenders to rewrite the Deeds into fixed rate mortgatges. Send those that are in foreclosure money to bring their loans current - then, if they can't handle it, they can't handle it and the houses return to the banks at that point. We're the ones paying the taxes - if anyone deserves the help, it's the taxpayers (and, I say that as a homeowner with a fixed rate mortgage, making my payments on time).

How is that every run of Republican governance ends with us taxpayers bailing out corrupt industry? This is just like the savings and loan fiasco at the end of the '80s.

Oh, and for everyone else - that's one more concrete thing Barrack Obama will do: re-regulate the mortgage and banking industries!

I will take someone graduating at the top of their class at Harvard and taught college courses on the constitution over someone who graduated 594 of 599 at the Naval academy. We tried the rich, priviledged, underachiever option and look where that got us. We need someone who can relate to all classes, not someone who has 7 houses and then wants a tax break.

Also, I wouldn't be swayed either way by any celebrity but when did musicians lose their right to have an opinion about politics when asked?

I agree with you. And the biggest reason why I am opposed to the bailout is the arrogance with which this administration tries to influence the public opinion with more FEAR; "Bailout or Disaster!" And without any attempt to understand the reality of our predicament. Ignorance as well as arrogance. As you said, it seems consistent with more corruption and corporate influence in the White House.

It seems that for a lot of people (citizens and politicians alike), Bush's bullying tactics have been reduced to the cries of chicken little. It is my understanding that distrust in Bush cost the bill critical votes yesterday. I'm hoping the same thing happens today.

The reference to the nursery rhyme was clearly a stab at your wonder boy Obama, but aparently you liberals are too thick headed to recognize sarcasm when you read it. Face it losers, neither candidate will be suited to turn this country around. We can all sit around and point fingers and recite poll percentages until we're blue in the face and at the end of the day all we've done is waste our time posting to Blabbermouth. You have your opinion and others have theirs. Not one is "better or smarter" than the other. They are just opinions based on what you percieve to be the truth. Both parties have lied, cheated and stolen from tax payers since politics were born into this nation. After the election, I am still going to have to put my pants on one leg at a time and drag my sorry ass to work so that I can support some fat cat up on the hill, be it Obama or McCain. Neither candidate will change that nor will they make it any better or worse for any of us. They will simply keep this big wheel (American politics) a turning.

They can support whoever they want and elect whoever else is applying for the job, this won't change the fact that this country is going down the drain and gets its well deserved plunge.

Whatever the rock star supporting whoever, this won't change the fact that politics are a big joke to cover up for the people who are really running this world.

We all are slaves happy with the illusion of freedom.

I was being sarcastic as well (leave nursery rhymes out of this)... Ironic isn't it?

"Not one is "better or smarter" than the other."
Some are better informed. And without a doubt some are more open to the facts as they arise, while some are entrenched regardless of the truth.

"They are just opinions based on what you percieve to be the truth"
There is a truth out there on every issue. The average voter rarely tries to find that for themselves though...and that more than anything may be the undoing of the country.

Sick and tired of hearing I am a racist because I don't like Barack Obama. He is the racist, look at his affiliations throughout his lifetime. The man is an elitist ( google it kids)
I'd vote for a black man if there was a good one running. Put Colin Powell on the ticket any day. My vote is going for a patriot a maverick and yes I mean John McCain. Obama hates America , at least most of us. You kids wanting to vote for Obama need to do some reading. Also I am no Bush Hater. We are just now starting to suffer from the big spending of the 90's and the Cliton era. Also Thank GOD Bush was in there when we were attacked on 9/11. The Dems want to sit back and do nothing but criticize when they themselves do nothing and have no idea's of their own. I want a safe America and I do not want a man in there who doesn't give 2 cents about me. Yes I am white and I am not racist but I do not like and I do not trust NOBAMA.

You don't get it. With all due respect, i'm not suprized.

"There is a truth out there on every issue." Yes, but unfortunately there is "Democratic truth" and "Republican truth". While there is truely only one truth, each has their own take on "the truth". It all comes down to who you believe. I don't believe either are telling the truth because there's just no room for truth in American politics. The "undoing of this country" as you have chosen to put it is a two party system and the electoral college.

By definition of the word (sarcasm) your staement was not sarcastic. Your statement was facetious.

I believe a person can research the issues, using impartial sources and good common sense, and reach the truth. I dont get my info from either party. I am sceptical of any info source that I know has an agenda, so I avoid them altogether. That may be why I lean towards NPR, BBC, etc. Sometimes the best way to get a true view of yourself is to see yourself through someone else's eyes.

constantly giving us their opinions? It pisses me off when a musician is asked a question about politics that they actually think have the right to answer it. I mean c'mon. Some of them even go as far as contributing to debates with intelligent and informative answers.

Then you get the bigs shots. Oh boy. These pompous fuckers actually think they can use their platform to influence national and international politics for the better. Are they taking the piss? Someone told me about a couple of musicians who kept talking about politics, infact they wouldn't shut up. In the end they talked so much that they actually helped changed international policy towards some country called Africa. Now because of these musicians mouthing off, you have kids in in this country actually going to school...these kids even have access to food and water...clean water as well! I mean somethings not right there.

Are you trying to tell me that somewhere out there someone is now living a life fit for a human being because some musician helped to raise awareness about their plight? Nonsense.

What pisses me off the most is that when these musicians make these political comments I have to go out of my way to actually find these comments so that I can read them and diss them.

I'm not having it, not on my watch.

I fear your sarcasm is going to fly over the heads of most blabbermouth users. But I totally agree... musicians have every right to express their opinions... and in fact many are much more qualified to do so than say... half the retards on this board.

I mean... seriously... do you expect to hear "obama the muslim" from any notable figure in music today (expect maybe ted nugent, but he's neither intelligent, nor relevant)

But by the way, one thing that has really surprised me in my time here is not the amount of mindless liberal supporters on a metal message board (quite the opposite, most seem informed) But the number of mindless republican supporters. I mean what the hell? Metal is the last place I would look for a cardboard cut out conservative base.

yeah McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time. So what does that mean? Well, I don't have all the facts, but who does? Thats exactly my point... We don't know exactly which topics were voted on, or which ones McCain voted for or against. Its obvious that the 90% argument is targeted to all the Bush haters out there. Well, W Bush won the last 2 elections, and he still has most of those supporters. And, McCain will probably pick up most of the Bush voters who now don't agree with Bush.
Now...the rest of the (educated) voters know that (the democratic controlled) congress has a much lower (14%) approval rating than pres Bush. So, the fact that more people disapprove of democrtas in congress than they disapprove of Bush means McCain should win! If McCain loses then its because of Palin...what a bad choice IMO.
