Dr Pepper Putting Soda 'On Ice' In Preparation For 'Chinese Democracy' Arrival - Oct. 10, 2008
Soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper, which this past spring offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GN'R members Slash and Buckethead) if GUNS N' ROSES' new album, "Chinese Democracy", were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008, has commented on the reports that the long-awaited CD is finally scheduled for release in late November.

"We're waiting to hear about 'Chinese Democracy' just like all the other GN'R fans," Dr Pepper VP of marketing Tony Jacobs told Billboard. "But if the rumors are true, we're putting the Dr Pepper on ice."

"Chinese Democracy" will be released on Sunday, November 23, sources have confirmed to Billboard. The long-delayed set will be exclusively available at Best Buy and will skip the usual Tuesday release date for new music. To whet fans' appetites, so to speak, the group's label will reissue its classic 1987 debut, "Appetite for Destruction", in a new vinyl edition on October 28. One new GUNS song, called "If The World", can be heard in part over the end credits of the film "Body of Lies", which opens Friday (October 10), while another track, "Shackler's Revenge", will make its debut on Rock Band 2 at the end of this month.

The last all-new GUNS N' ROSES releases were the 1991 double albums "Use Your Illusion I" and "II". Since that time, every single original member of the band except for singer Axl Rose has departed.

"Chinese Democracy" has been in the works since the mid-'90s, with speculation and mystery surrounding the album's 13-year journey, ever-changing roster of players and spiraling recording costs.

Keyboardist Dizzy Reed, who joined in 1990 and is the longest-serving member after Rose, told The Pulse of Radio a while back that he thinks fans will be pleased when they finally get to hear the results. "It's a pretty intense musical journey, really," he said. "Everyone that is in the band, or was in the band at some point — 'cause there, you know, there's been a few guys who have come and gone even since the old band — has contributed, and because of that I think it really takes you to some interesting musical places. When you add Axl and guitars, of course, though, it kinda glues it all together. There's something for everybody, but I think if you're a GUNS fan, if you're an Axl fan, you'll like it all. You'll love it all."

They are probably going to put a coupon in every cd case or something, so you'll be paying for it through the cd sale.

Problem is, 90% of us heard Chinese Democracy already and it sucks. No one cares if it is "officially released." It's not gonna get any better suddenly.

It's not even a rock album. Sounds more like Maroon 5 meets Incubus ballads. A 13+ million dollar waste of money and a waste of your $10 if you actually buy it.

This cd is the work of a cock master !!!! Listen to the sound of the skin flute played skillfully . Sit back and ponder the cock and ball licking majesty that is Axl Rose . Shudder in fear as you hear the girlish shrieks of Sebastian Bach as Axl penetrates his once tight fudge pipe !!!! MMMMMM can't wait for this !!!!

As far as I'm concerned this no greater hard officionario than Axl Rose, he could write a volume of books on the subject of hard rock/heavy metal. I think hes put all the knowledge and love of that into this record.

I am really looking forward to hearing it in it's entirety.

And to the haters - watch the record sales go through the f***ing roof. You have seen record sales like it even from before Napster.

That would sure cost a lot of fucking money in postage, etc.

...or did they just offer to give a can to everyone in America. In that case, everyone would need to go to a specific location to pick up their can.

Which is it?

Either way, I still don't believe it is coming out this year. Even if it does, the hype over the album has sure died down over the past few years.

Making it a Best Buy exclusive makes it easier for everyone to get a free Dr Pepper. All they'll have to do is give a free can to anyone who goes into a Best Buy store. The Best Buy stores around here all sell soda and candy, so they can just hand them out at the door. It's a ridiculous marketing orgy though, what with the Best Buy exclusive and the free soda. If they really want to sell this album through the roof, they should make it 5 bucks on the day of release, like Hot Topic did with Death Magnetic.

That is a lot of goddamn Dr Pepper though...

Washed up act. Simple as that. And what for, basically an adult contemporary album? It sucks,it did when they finished it the first 5 or 6 times, and it still does. It will be funny when they are playing fairs and the kids are like "Guns and who?"

... the the album will contain mostly tracks wich hasn't been leaked. If Axl releases the leaked tracks he's and idiot (allright he's appearently an idiot anyway).
But if he got any sence of buisness he's kept the tracks for the release pretty thight to his chest.

I think the leaked stuff really suck, and even though I dont have any high hopes for Axl, I still think he's smart enough to figure that this stuff wont cut it.

More than a decade after its conception, Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" will finally see the light of day before year's end, sources close to the situation confirm to Billboard. As first reported here, the set will be a Best Buy exclusive and will be available Sunday, Nov. 23, rather than the usual Tuesday.

Beyond enticing pre-Thanksgiving shoppers, the move is tied to the structure of Best Buy's sales week, which runs from Sunday to Saturday. As such, "Chinese Democracy" would not be eligible to chart on The Billboard 200 until the week of Dec. 1, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In the run-up to release date, album track "Shackler's Revenge" will debut in the video game "Rock Band 2," while a portion of "If the World" is playing over the end credits in the new Leonardo DiCaprio/Russell Crowe film "Body of Lies."

In addition, GNR's seminal 1987 debut, "Appetite for Destruction," will be reissued on vinyl on Oct. 28 via Interscope.

The band's last new studio albums were the simultaneously released "Use Your Illusion I" and "II" in September 1991. A covers set, "The Spaghetti Incident?," followed in 1993, and featured some of the last GNR recordings from original guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan.

This spring, soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008.

"We're waiting to hear about 'Chinese Democracy' just like all the other GNR fans," Dr Pepper VP of marketing Tony Jacobs tells Billboard. "But if the rumors are true, we're putting the Dr Pepper on ice."

Why the fuck are you trying to be someone you aren't, let alone someone much better than you'll ever be, seeing as your trying to emulate them.

Anyways, I wish the Canadian marketers and people working for the Canadian division of Dr. Pepper (Pepsi or whatever the main thing is) were more generous and offered this promotion in Canada as well, oh well, Dr. Pepper or not -- Chi-Dem is comin!! (I hope.)
