OZZFEST Will Return In 2009, But It Won't Be Free - Oct. 20, 2008
When MTV News caught up with the Osbournes at the Scream Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday (October 18), they discussed what's in store for Ozzfest's 14th year. Will 2009's festival be free once again like it was in 2007?

"No, don't you know that there's a depression on?" Ozzfest co-producer Sharon Osbourne replied, defiantly. "Are you mad? We're going back to what we originally were. We've given the real good fans a free show for one time, and now, it's back to business as usual."

When pressed for next summer's lineup, she smiled, "We can't tell you now!"

"It's too early. We just got done with the last one," said son Jack Osbourne, who did suggest that the festival's namesake, his father Ozzy, will likely return to anchor the bill.

Video footage of the Osbournes talking to MTV News about next year's Ozzfest can be viewed below.

The one-day Ozzfest 2008 festival, with METALLICA and OZZY OSBOURNE as headliners, was the fourth highest-grossing concert stand in the world so far this year, according to Billboard magazine. The AEG Live-promoted Ozzfest 2008 grossed nearly $3.5 million and almost 30,000 fans got to experience a 13-hour show filled with legends, cutting-edge acts and Ozzfest alumni who ignited three stages at Pizza Hut Park in the hard music-loving state of Texas, including one devoted to the state's bands.

The official Ozzfest web site was recently updated with a brand new photo gallery from this year's event, which was held on August 9 in Frisco, Texas. Check it out at this location.

Slayer, Devildriver, Lamb of God, Cavalera Conspiracy or Soulfly, Down, Halo of Locusts, Chimaira, Machine Head.

I think if they did, then it would be pretty badass but thats just my opinion.

That tour ran on sponsors paying for the whole thing (Jager, Monster, etc). Those companies probably wouldn't be willing to do that again in this economic climate. AT least not on that scale.

Considering a lawn seat is like $35 bucks plus fees and Overkill played, locally, last week for $25, Ozzfest is always a good deal...especially if you get there early, pace yourself, see the up and coming sidestage bands up close and avoid paying $150 on beer. Even the Pavillion seat are a good deal if you think about how much a show costs at a mid-sized club.

Nothing against Overkill. They rock.

um what's with all the ozzfest bashing. did you not remember two consecutive years with awesome bands (sabbath, priest, maiden, slayer, dimmu borgir, shadows fall, god forbid, the haunted, unearth, lamb of god, killswitch engage, soilwork, etc.). stop complaining, some of the best concerts I've been able to go to.

The only good bands you all mentioned was Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Slayer!!

Those were the only years worth going to Ozzfest, the rest of the bands suck donkey balls!

When I saw Slayer at Ozzfest it was so disappointing. It was daytime and we were outside. Seeing Slayer in broad daylight just doesn't work. We were also in stadium seating.

I love that Metallica & Ozzy headlined a show at a Pizza Hut in Dallas.
Too funny .

Anyway the show aint worth it if there's shit bands on the bill & 2 good ones.
Thats been the case for too many years now. I can remember some years where I bought a reserved seat and didn't bother showing up until 6 or 7:00 PM cause all the side stage acts were lame. I went to watch Sabbath. There have been some decent shows but after a while all those shit bands I've had to sit through starts to bother me.

So in this economy I'd rather pay $35 for a club show, and enjoy 2 or 3 of the 4 bands, then spend $35 for a bad view of the stage & 3 good bands out of 25. Not to mention spending a whole day waiting through bullshit bands, expensive food, and long ass lines to take a leak. Plus they keep playing that fucked up venue out in the middle of San Bernadino. 2 hour fucking drive for anyone in the greater L.A. area, at $3.75 a gallon & 20.00 for parking? For 2 good bands? Bullshit. I'd rather see the headline acts play their own shows.
