ANTHRAX To Enter Studio Next Month - Oct. 20, 2008
ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante has issued the following update:

"We have 13 brand new ANTHRAX songs, we have four (maybe five) b-sides. The b-sides will be 'Brain Of J' (PEARL JAM), 'Big Eyes' (CHEAP TRICK), 'New Noise' (THE REFUSED), 'Running Down A Dream' (TOM PETTY) and maybe an ANVIL cover — 'Jackhammer'?? Or maybe an ALICE COOPER cover — 'We Die Young'?

"The new tunes are very strong. We have some old-school thrash and some stuff that is like 'We've Come For You All' meets 'Sound Of White Noise'. This record is not forced — it is a very organic and honest representation of where we are as a band and as writers.

"I hear many things nowadays that sound forced, I ain't digging that. There is a six-minute tune called 'Down Goes The Sun', I believe it is one of my favorite songs. The music itself is epic, it sends chills up my spine. 'Face with No Name', 'The Devil You Know', 'Earth On Hell' — all killer.

"'Worship Music' should be out in May.

"We enter the studio on November 4th, the day that change comes, hahahahaha!"

"GO VOTE!!

"Take this country back from these thieves that put us in this situation.

"Anyone selling a black hybrid Escalade? I want one!"

Video footage of ANTHRAX performing a brand new song called "Fight 'Em Til You Can't" on May 28, 2008 at Double Door in Chicago, Illinois can be viewed below (clip filmed and uploaded by Thraxx a.k.a. Ted). The Chicago concert was the group's first with new singer Dan Nelson, who officially joined ANTHRAX in December 2007 as the replacement for Joey Belladonna.

An audience recording of the other two new ANTHRAX songs that were performed at the Chicago show can be heard by following these links:

In a recent interview with Metal Maniacs magazine, ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian stated about Dan Nelson's singing style, "I've compared him to John Bush on steroids because he definitely comes from more of that tone, but also because he's only 31 or 32 years old. He listens to the more extreme side of heavy metal. He was in a lot of bands that were certainly more extreme than ANTHRAX so he's able to take what he has a lot further. That's not to say you're going to hear an ANTHRAX record with death metal or hardcore vocals or anything like that. The guy's a singer and a great singer at that. I'm just saying that he's already got this really powerful singing voice and he's able to take it to a level we've never explored before. We have a bunch of spots on this record where it really works."

When asked if all the music and vocal melodies/lyrics for the new songs had already been "pre-written" for Nelson prior to the singer joining the band, Ian said, "Before Dan, we had ideas for maybe two songs and not even any lyrics yet. Once Dan got involved, that's when the light bulb went off over my head. I wasn't writing anything because I had no focus as far as who was actually going to be singing this stuff. Once I had Dan's voice in my brain it totally opened the door for me writing-wise. It's been really collaborative since then. We all get together, listen to the music and work on the melody lines until everybody is happy. We have two songs done. There's a song called 'Revolution Screams' which is a straight-up thrash tune. There's another called 'Fight 'Em Til You Can't' which sounds like ANTHRAX from 1987 but in 2008. It's total old-school thrash. I'm totally stoked on them!"

Be interesting to see if Anthrax can survive yet another vocalist change. I`ve enjoyed them under all 3 previous singers and like the new tracks that have appeared so I`ll be listening.

Seriously, enough with begging Joey to come back!!!

They already tried it again and it didn't work. As much as people want it to be 1988, it's not. Joey's style is so outdated. The thing I always liked about Anthrax is that they're able to keep a current heavy sound without adapting too much to the current styles. They never went Nu Metal, etc.

I really loved Bush as a front man though and thought he got screwed by bringing back Joey. This guy has some big shoes to fill in my eyes.

I'm ready for this! I have high hopes because I know Charlie and Ian are excellent song writers, so as long as the vocals are ok with them, I'm sure the tunes will be great.

"GO VOTE"

Ok, guys, I will. Thanks for telling me to vote. I wouldn't have otherwise. So John McCain can now thank ANTHRAX that he received another vote.

HAHA! HardGore for Life!

Re: Cover song: 'New Noise' (THE REFUSED)

hmmm, "THE Refused"? There was a band called REFUSED, who had an album called:
"THE SHAPE OF PUNK TO COME- A chimerical bombination in 12 bursts".
Great album. Track six is named NEW NOISE.

I can't wait for THE ANTHRAX to put out their new album and hear THE ANTHRAX's version of THE Refused's great song.

jamin_07 said his style is outdated. His style sounded "outdated" to me back in the 80's but that's what I liked. It was original. Sounding "current" is more like selling out. By the looks of the video, the band is playing smaller venues. The overall sound is pretty weak too.... corny to be more concise.

Oh, and due to the fact that we've got an election going on, don't write "Bring Back Bush" That's just scary.

They basically invented it way back when. They dumped joey in the early nineties because the musical climate was changing. They were always taken as a joke band because of IAM THE MAN...The FIRST and original rap metal song. A fresher sound was needed. Joey Got FUCKED!!!!
In the Nineties and up until Dime died Scott was able remain in the limelight by riding Dimes coat tails.
Sound of white noise was awesome and the one that followed was ok. I havent heard anything good from them since.

The new singer sucks, I hate that it's happened but I have lost interest in these guys now (this is coming from a fan of every album they've done, bar The Threat Is Real).

Why did they take so long to enter the studio? I will listen to this new album to judge it with the new singer, but I don´t expect anything from these guys, they are dead for me since SOWN. I agree 1000% with destructivesounds, that´s why I don´t follow this band anymore and I don´t like the way they have handled their music and their singers.

As in NOT looking forward to the new album. Instead of finding a John Bush clone as a vocalist, why didn't they just get John Bush back in the band. Like many, im not impressed by the new guy. Even if the music is killer, its going to be hard to get past the new guy.

OK so no one else noticed that this is an Alice in CHAINS song not an Alice COOPER song??? I really hope this was a typo and no one thinks (espically Charlie) that the Coop wrote a song called We Die Young
