CYPRESS HILL's B-REAL Says AXL ROSE's Band Is 'Not GUNS N' ROSES'

CYPRESS HILL rapper B-Real has slammed Axl Rose's current GUNS N' ROSES lineup as no longer representative of the group. According to B-Real, the new GUNS N' ROSES band, which features Axl Rose as the only original member, is " GUNS N' ROSES only in the sense of the name. It's not them," he told the Sun newspaper. According to Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, between 5:00 a.m. EST on October 22 and 5:00 a.m. EST on 23, GUNS N' ROSES new single, "Chinese Democracy", was played 683 times on all BDS-monitored terrestrial and satellite radio stations. WAAF-FM in Boston and WHJY-FM in Providence both played it 18 times during that time period. WBSX-FM in Wilkes-Barre was next with 17 spins. By comparison, the #1 song on the Billboard Mainstream Rock radio chart was spun 322 times on October 22, with 526 spins overall. Best Buy and Geffen Records have finally made an official announcement confirming that GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy", will be released exclusively through Best Buy on November 23. The 14-song set will be available on CD, vinyl, and as a download. While singer Axl Rose has remained silent, co-managers Irving Azoff and Andy Gould said in a statement, "The release of 'Chinese Democracy' marks a historic moment in rock n'roll. We're launching with a monumental campaign...that matches the groundbreaking sound of the album itself. GUNS N' ROSES fans have every reason to celebrate, for this is only the beginning." One new song, "Shackler's Revenge", debuted on September 14 through the Rock Band 2 video game, while another, called "If The World", can be heard in the new film "Body of Lies". "Chinese Democracy" is the first album of new material from GUNS N' ROSES since 1991's "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II".

he has a point, but Axl has always been the primary song writer for GN'R, so from a creative standpoint, musically it's still more GN'R than what is represented by the unfamiliar band members.
people will say it's only 20% GN'R becuase there's only 1 guy left, but musically it's more like 70% still.

I could go on and on and on. You could even make the case about every sports team, soap opera and Fortune 500 company as well. The fact is that Guns 'n Roses is a brand name owned by Axl Rose and signed to Geffen. It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever who plays on the record, it still is Guns 'n Roses. They may not sound quite the same and the music may not be quite as good, but then the Pittsburgh Pirates aren't the same team who won the '79 series, and the Cincinnatti Bengals aren't the same team that went to two Super Bowls in the 80's either. I want to point out that what I'm saying in no way endorses the GNR record, I'm just saying that it is GNR, whether we like it or not. Slash is just on a different team.

yes Appetite just credits all memebers, which is false. I hate when bands do that.
i know that Stradlin was also a main songwriter but for te Illusions Stradlin is credited with co-writing 14 of the 28 songs on the Illusions and Axl is credited with 22 of the 28 (many of which he is the sole person creditted).
so that is why I say Axl is the primary song writer....because he IS!!

I would say it takes at least two members from an original lineup to remain after a breakup even be able to call it the same band.
What differentiates a band from a solo act? Its the chemistry of the band members. Tallying up the songwriting credits is going to be no indicator of who more important, you weren't in the band you weren't there you can't say who or what songwriting relationship was "more important". At least one of those relationships must remain which means AT LEAST 2 members from an original (before breakup) lineup must remain in order to be able to call it the same band.
Arguments like Axl Rose was the most important member without him there would be no guns and roses hold no water because IT WAS NOT A SOLO ACT it was a band fellas and Axl Rose by himself cannot retain the chemistry between the bandmembers. At least one of the other band members would have had to remain to even make an argument that it is the same band plausible.
now in my opinion, guns n roses replaced the singer and had to change their name.. They suffered greatly at the loss of a great member but they've been putting out records this whole time.

GNR was a great BAND. They were successful because of the bands image, personalties and their individual talent.
When I think of GNR, I will never think of Axl and whoever else he decided to call to help him. It will ALWAYS be Axl, Slash and Duff for me. They are the main fixtures of this band. Period.
The album WILL sell alot, but I think in the end the sales won't matter. People will want the real GNR.

Does that mean the music is shit? well thats going to be based on your personal opinion.. I Liked GNR back in the day.. hell my First CD was Appetite for distruction! I've heard the first Single.. it's not bad.. not great either.. I've sead it before and I'll say it again.. When axl can put out a good record and Tour.. and Play ALL of his dates on time without a substatute singer singing his stuff (like Sabastian Bach did when GNR did last time they came to Seattle) Acl was too fucking wasted to preform on stage.. THEN and only then will i ever consider buying his new music and or concert ticket..
FUCK AXL ROSE... he's a burn out and need to give up.. He's nothing without Slash and Duff!

If gnr were able to get rid of adler and izzy, and keep the name, why not after slash n duff are gone. Both adler and izzy were large parts of the band. Izzy most of all was just as important as slash maybe even more. It has forever been a band of changing members. But Axl is the driving force of the band, because of his insane song writing skills,(even though it took so long for this album).
At one time I wished he hadnt kept the name, but now its like aight, the name isnt changing, so deal with it. So forget about the name issue and just get excited for new good music, that destorys anything thats out there now which is comprised of horrible rap, emo, and death metal screamers

The epic ones like estranged,nov rain etc
Axl wanted to be the next Elton John,less Rock & much more
orchestra,big epic songs or what the hell u'd call it.
I even started to dislike the band a bit on the UYI tour when they
started using backup singers,keyboards,Matt Sorum,that teddy guy,violins and what not,it became too BLOATED.
And NOWAY Axl wrote 70% of the music!
There's at least 2 more very important ingredients missing to even consider calling the band "Guns 'n Roses" & that's Slash n Izzy!
But I'll take this album for what it is,I really like some of the songs but it's definitely not "Guns 'n Roses" in "my world",heh.

B-Real? B serious. Who the fuck could possibly care what he thinks about anything? Who the hell is he anyway? Cypress Hill... *rollseyes* That headline just made me laugh.
Besides which, the singer is the only irreplaceable band member in any band... so long as the musicians are talented enough, the sound won't change all that much. Axl IS GNR, just like Mustaine IS Megadeth.

Sorry guys, but pot smoking is as metal as alcohol consumption(please note Black Sabbath, Bongzilla, Motorhead, Iron Maiden fans will have my back on this), at least in my book. And no it's not really "Guns 'N Roses" but the name belongs to whoever trademarks the name. And, no offense, but that fact was pretty well known once Slash and Duff left the band many many years ago, so, uh duh.
We'll find out how good the album is once it's released. Until then all of this bullshit is for nothing more than my amusement. Please, continue to cry about an album that's not even out yet, bitchfaces.

GNR ain't GNR without Slash! It's Axl Rose & cover band, NOT GNR! I've honestly TRIED listening to Shacklers' Revenge & Chinese Democracy, but......it just doesn't have that TRUE GNR sound! & the truth is....those song don't even SOUND finished!
ESPECIALLY Shacklers' Revenge! Don't tell that you can't hear that it sounds like a finished copy! It sounds like there are still peices missing! & Chinese Democracy.....it doesn't even have a stable rhythm! this just my opinion, I DO, however, commend Axl for FINALLY putting Chinese Democracy out..........I hope......
