Bassist DENNIS PEPA Quits DEATH ANGEL - Oct. 28, 2008
Bassist/founding member Dennis Pepa of the long-running San Francisco Bay Area metal act DEATH ANGEL has announced his departure from the band.

"I've been with DEATH ANGEL since its inception in the '80s and believe it is time for me to move on," he said in a statement released to BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "Throughout my career with the band, I've brought a punk-influenced edge to the DEATH ANGEL sound, and as an open-minded musician in need of change, I'd like to diversify and explore other opportunities within and beyond the genre of metal. The DEATH ANGEL guys are my family, both literally and figuratively speaking, and I wish them luck on their future endeavors. Many thanks go out to Nuclear Blast Records and the fans, who have extended their support and friendship — I look forward to being involved in new music projects and continuing to connect with all of you."

DEATH ANGEL's video for "Dethroned", a track off the band's latest album, "Killing Season", can be viewed below.

Director/producer Robert Sexton had this to say about his ties to DEATH ANGEL and how the gig practically landed in his lap: "I'm excited about this video and I think D.A. fans are going to go nuts for it. It's a great song and there are a lot of layers to the story and to the visuals. There's something new to see every time you watch it, and DEATH ANGEL's performance decimates. My band GENOCIDE opened for DEATH ANGEL at an all-ages show in a Masonic Hall in Grand Haven, Michigan in the late '80s. Years later, I ran into Mark Osegueda at an absinthe party at Kirk Hammett's house in San Francisco. Mark informed me that DEATH ANGEL were doing their new album, and I asked to be put in the mix to direct the video."

Unfortunate, but they'll move on. I'm sure they have another cousin with musical ability somewhere out there.

Bummer, but if he hates metal now, then I'd rather have someone in the band who wants to play metal. Good luck dude

Sad to see him go but if he's no longer into it he better go. It's a good thing he's stepping out to leave the place to an hungry new player.

Good luck to him in the future!

Death Angels rules!!!

that sucks.

These guys were enormously influential to me as a musician. I met them on my 18th birthday in Wichita, Kansas and they were amazing. Their show with Forbidden is still to this day one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Hope they keep rockin' with someone amazing.

Andy to me was always crucial to this band... Hopefully he stays. He was amazing when he was 16.

I'm glad to see him go. He was playing punk in the 90's when DA were split up.

He didn't get involved with DA's pre-reunion project Swarm. Around that time, he ripped on metal in some interview I read, basically putting it down.

Something tells me he only did this to help out his former band or to promote his own name again. If he's not into it, I'm sure a quality band like DA will have no problem finding someone who is.

But I don't think we'll see Newsted there. He's not Filipino!

Well, whatever. Killing Season is an amazing record. Glad he could be apart of it. Still, I'm not sure how much support/sales they've been getting since the reunion -- I know it's hard for guys in their 30's or 40's to tour hard to get noticed, particulary since they aren't some new, young hip band. It may not be worth the effort to them anymore. Hopefully I'm wrong -- these guys still have it.

It's maybe their roadie. He replaced Dennis when they had a gig up in Canada when he got denied entry there. It sucks that he had to go though! Death Angel fucking rules!

Brain Forbes from Light This City (who are also from the Bay Area) told me he was going to form a hardcore punk band with Dennis in the future. We'll see how that goes.

Killing Season is a great album and Death Angel absolutely killed on the last tour. It looked like like 1988 all over again in the venue with all the thrashers moshing. This band does wipe the floor with who ever they play with... just ask God Forbid.

Maybe they should get Ted 's brother Rob to fill in on Bass... oh wait I think Ted's the only one who could suck their dicks to get in the band and just be a hired cousin...
