METALLICA's '…And Justice For All' Reissued On Vinyl - Oct. 28, 2008
METALLICA has reissued its classic 1988 album "…And Justice For All" on vinyl as part of the ongoing series that will eventually see the entire catalog available again. "Justice" is now available in North America as a two-disc package for the 33.3 version, and in a box for the four-disc, 180 gram, 45 rpm edition. Check out your favorite local record shop or just head over to the METALLICA store to pick up a copy. Look for the re-release on vinyl in the rest of the world on December 1.

METALLICA's fourth album, "…And Justice for All", was originally released on August 25, 1988 through Elektra Records. It was the band's first studio LP to feature Jason Newsted, who replaced the group's former bassist Cliff Burton. The album's dark subject material, featuring references to nuclear apocalypse, injustice in the law system, limited freedom, war, insanity and hate, was accompanied by what were the most complex song structures in METALLICA's discography at the time of the LP's release. The album is also noted for its near lack of bass guitar and dry production and therefore has been called a "slightly flawed masterpiece and the pinnacle of METALLICA's progressive years" by AllMusic.com's reviewer.

The front cover depicts the statue of Lady Justice cracked and bound by ropes, with both of her scales filled with dollars and both of her breasts exposed. The words "…And Justice for All" are written in graffiti to the right. The cover is made by Stephen Gorman after a concept by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.

The album has sold over 8 million copies in the U.S. alone, according to the RIAA and was the best-selling METALLICA record upon its release.

to see the description of the cover. I remember when this came out. I bought it on vinyl then, and I still play it regularly. Seeing it being reissued on vinyl and reading the description of the cover makes me feel old :)

Sadly, Justice was their last truly good album.

Don't really see the point of releasing it on vinyl though, can't be that many LP collector geeks left out there still...

Even though the Kill / Ride / Master LPs sound sub-par, it's still one of my favorite albums and I'd rather pay them for this than Clip Magnetic.

I felt cheated when I bought ...And Justice For All in 1988. Metallica lost the early intensity of Kill'em All and Ride The Lightening, and I think it was due to the pivotal early line up changes, Dave Mustaine and Cliff Burton, both huge contributors to the Metallica sound and image, even today, which is no great surprise. Robert Tujillo was talking in an interview about how great it is to play with Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, and Kirk Hammet. All I have to say is "...bass solo, take one..."

Always been my 2nd fave Metallica album right behind
Ride the Lightning, M.O.P. 3rd.
My 2 cents. Metallica fan since Kill 'em all - and for life!!

180 gram vinyl is the best sound quality your ever gonna hear. Vinyl kills digital.

On a side note. I am away from home so i found a torrent with albums i was living without. I found a AJFA torrent that claims to have added bass. I personally feel that this is impossible without rerecording the bass. However, there is a noticeable difference. I don't care how they did it but I am fucking stoked on it.

I was 8 when this came out and I already loved metal. Loved it. When I found Master of Reality in my dads LPs I was instantly hooked as a 6 year old (Note: Children of the Grave and Orchid scared the shit out of me as a 6 year old lol).

I had already heard a lot of Anthrax, Megadeth and Metallica and knew I loved metal, but the day my friend lent me the tape for and justice for all... and I copied it for my walkman, that was the day my life changed. I knew that metal would be the most epic be all end all music for the rest of my life.

This album changed the way i look at the world.

I hate it when I read articles with Metallica rationalizing how this album was written, played, or produced. Why would you try and make excuses for making something amazing.

And the last moment in their own element, before they went on to cater the Bon Jovi/Def Leppard and then Nirvana/Pearl Jam crowds.

Now that Metallica have finally aged themselves out of latching on to any current teeny-bopper fads (Emo etc), its good to see them exploring their roots and the sort of music that made them who they were in the first place. Although its bitter sweet, as I feel Death Magnetic would of made a far more acceptable follow up to And Justice For All then what actually came.

This is awesome.

I got in the US a few week ago the Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets on the 45rpm reissue vinyls and man.....................
the sound is unbelievable. Believe me. I am even going to get a new Stanton stylus to even grade up the sound. I put on first "Lepper Messiah" and I had to look back because I thought Lars Ulrich was in my room about to start drumming.

I am going to order right now this from an US store. US vinyl is the best quality you can get.

4 VINYLS!!! 45 RPM!!! OUTSTANDING!!!!

Even if you already have them on vinyl (like I do), this reissues are a must have for the audiophiles.

Please UPS, take care of this baby while flies overseas to meet me !!!!

I own the original that I got in 1988 and I have this one as well.

What can I say, I collect LPs. I guess that makes me a geek because "Your Mom's Best Friend" said so.

Oh well Metallica are the greatest band in the world. The fact that even the haters who only want attention (or hate the band because there other 15 year old friends in school think it is cool to hate the band) make this band relevent.

The day that people stop posting when Metallica news is posted, is the day they should sieze to exist.

Until then Hail Metallica!

Woke Up Dead: the remix was likely the result of a kid stealing the guitar hero files online and remixing it using a typical audio recording program. search and ye will find the files for a lot of guitar hero songs.

as for AJFA - a little too mid-paced and longwinded for me to call a fave, but cool they are re-releasing it on vinyl.

I heard the 180 gram version of Enter Sandman last weekend, my friend's dad has a record collection that makes a music lover drool and it blew my mind.

I've heard that song hundreds of times but I NEVER heard it like that. Granted, we were drinking scotch so that may have enhanced my experience but in all seriousness it absolutely blew my mind.

Does this record have bass? PLEASE tell me it does.

What you heard with the added bass is a guy by the user name of Lokire who is a member in the forums who plays bass recorded and mixed himself playing along.

Now if you look in the right spots the tracks that were released on guitar hero or rockband from justice someone has released them and I have heard these and they sound so much better than the original.

Maybe its cause I grew up listening to Justice on rotation non stop for about 7 years.....

maybe its cause Ive only listened to the black album twice all the way through and never even bothered to listen to the second load or st anger all the way through....

but I dont see a connection with death magnetic and justice at all! NONE WHAT SO EVER! To me it sounds more like the first load than Justice.

why or how can anyone put death magnetic and justice in the same sentence and not feel like a fool? I feel stupid right now even talking about it. I just want to know what dimension or mind set you guys are in when you say these things!

Anyway its pretty cool they are re-releasing this, but I wish they would put more of the progressive metal sound on a new release. I miss this sound, it couldnt have been any more perfect.
