AC/DC's
"Black Ice" is
Wal-Mart's fastest-selling album of 2008, according to figures released on Tuesday (October 28). The disc, which is being sold exclusively through
Wal-Mart,
Sam's Club and
ACDC.com, has moved more than 780,000 copies since arriving on Monday, October 20. That also locks up the No. 1 spot on this week's
Billboard album chart, which comes out today (October 29) and gives the veteran Australian rockers the first chart-topping album of their 30-plus year career.
Wal-Mart's specially branded
AC/DC stores are also seeing an uptick in sales of T-shirts, other apparel, DVDs and video games.
Special "pop-up"
AC/DC stores are open through January 9 in New York City and Los Angeles, where
Wal-Mart does not have stores.
"Black Ice" also topped the sales charts in 29 other countries this week, including the U.K., Germany, Canada, France, Argentina, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland and more.
AC/DC kicked off its world tour in support of
"Black Ice" on Tuesday night (October 28) in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. They next play on Thursday (October 30) in Rosemont, Illinois.
In other news, a statue honoring late
AC/DC singer
Bon Scott has been placed permanently at the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbor in Western Australia after being unveiled earlier this year.
