AEROSMITH Guitarist Confirms Report Of STEVEN TYLER / LED ZEPPELIN Jam Session - Oct. 31, 2008
According to AeroNewsDaily, AEROSMITH guitarist Brad Whitford has confirmed a report published Saturday in England's Daily Mail that revealed AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler's recent jam session with LED ZEPPELIN members Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham.

"First of all, they did it for fun," Whitford said during an appearance on the syndicated show "Todd n Tyler Radio Empire".

Whitford brought up AEROSMITH's history of playing with Page and his own particular admiration of Jimmy as a guitarist. He then speculated as to the message Page and the others may have been trying to relate to Robert Plant by way of the media.

"I actually think Jimmy wanted Steven to come over and play a little bit because, I think, he was trying to light a fire under Robert," Whitford said. "Come on! Come on, Robert, let's go!"

Which is something I don't understand. However, this could all be a publicity ploy to generate interest. My guess is that next summer we'll all be talking about ponying up $250+ for tickets.

Robert, if not for the $$$$, for the fans.

I'd love to hear that jam session. Steven Tyler has the range to sing that stuff.

If Robert Plant wants to sing country for a while, good for him, he's an artist and I respect him for wanting to tread new water. Allison Kraus and her band are spectacular musicians.

However, Led Zeppelin is the best rock band in history, and these guys ain't getting any younger. The time is NOW.

There's always one wanker holding up the perfect band reunion... I would never have guessed it would be Plant... Robert, the world is waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of matchups, does anyone know what wine goes best with a baked Camembert? I need to know for tonight....

Another great matchup would be the Great White singer, anyone ever hear their tribute to Zep LP?

This definately can't be done without Plant. Instead of completly disavowing a reunion Robert needs to get past things so they can put out a new c.d. before it's too damn late.

Despite all the spin the press and whoever else is posting/blogging/reporting about this shit on the net, nowhere has anyone (Jones,Page,Bonham) said that they were gonna call this "Led Zeppelin." I'm the biggest Zep fan in the universe, they're my favorite band of all time, blah blah blah, and for whatever reason I don't have my panties in a wad either 'for' or 'against' this thing that's going on. I probably will get personally butt-hurt if they go out as "Led Zeppelin" without Plant, but ultimately, who gives a shit? I've got the records, the bootlegs, and my own attachment to the things that drew me to that band in the first place, and there is nothing they can do now, no matter how stupid (Coverdale/Page, anyone?), that will detract from that. Ultimately, it's their music, they can do whatever the fuck they want to it, and as great as they are, they're not some sacrosanct thing that shouldn't be meddled with. Their legacy can withstand anything, even a dumb move like going out on the road with the tool from Alter Bridge.

I'd probably have a lot more respect for Robert Plant's reticence and hesitation if he hadn't done the Plant and Page 'Un-ledded" stuff. Certainly I'm not the only monkey who can see his hypocrisy. He's always talking about how he wants to protect the sanctity of their legacy, that it's only Zep when certain conditions are met, respect for John Bonham, etc....but the bottom line is that the Un-Ledded thing/tour/whatever, as killer as it was (and it was KILLER live), was a Zep cover band. The highest grossing Zep cover band of all time, I imagine. Why didn't he have a problem sucking the teat of the Zep legacy and catalog with that project? Robert Plant should at least be able to call a spade a spade.

Whatever. I'm going to go listen to "Presence."

He barely pulled off the Plant/Page thing Ten Years Ago.
He knows the limitations of his voice

Page. Bonham and Jones should just do a tour with Chris Robinson. That was a decent show when Page did that stint with the Black Crowes

I love Aerosmith and Steve, but his voice only works for Aerosmith. Can't explain why.

Case in point - when Steve jammed with AC/DC at the RNRHOF. Great idea - on paper. When Steve opened his mouth it sounded awful, just entirely out of place. Steve is the Aerosmith singer - and nobody else could be that.

Coverdale should get the call - the Coverdale/Page album was brilliant. And unlike Plant he can still pull it off.

I've heard Jimmy jam with aerosmith live and it cranked. It sounded as good if not a little better than Zepplin. In my humble opinion Tyler would be great, but Aerosmith is due to hit the road in the spring and they have a new album they have been putting off, so I just don't see it. I hope plant does it although I would not pay to see it. I had to pay 84.00 bucks for tickets at the last concert I was at and I will not do it again. I have never seen a show by anyone, and I have seen some of the greatest bands of all time, that was worth 84.00 bucks. The guy from kingdom come sounds just like robert too. Plant imitators are a dime a dozen, but without plant it's like going to see vanhagar, it's just not the same.

In my opinion, Demis Roussos would be the perfect vocalist for Page, Bonham & Jones. YouTube "Aphrodite's Child" and see what I mean. For those unaware, Demis Roussos was the vocalist for late 60's Greek prog rock band Aphrodite's Child. The band was from Greece and the most famous member was Vangelis, who went on to score soundtracks to movies such as Chariots of Fire.
