AC/DC's 'Black Ice' Still Tops In The U.S.
- Nov. 4, 2008
According to Hits Daily Double, the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS, AC/DC's new album, "Black Ice" is on track to sell between 250,000 and 275,000 copies in the United States in its second week of release to hold on to the top position on The Billboard 200 chart.
"Black Ice" is Wal-Mart's fastest-selling album of 2008, according to figures released last week. The disc, which is being sold exclusively through Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and ACDC.com, moved more than 780,000 copies in its first seven days of release.
Special "pop-up" AC/DC stores are open through January 9 in New York City and Los Angeles, where Wal-Mart does not have stores.
"Black Ice" also topped the sales charts in 29 other countries last week, including the U.K., Germany, Canada, France, Argentina, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland and more.
AC/DC kicked off its world tour in support of "Black Ice" on October 28 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

and it's not that great. 1/2 of it is decent, and that's not enough.

A nice little collection of songs that sound pretty much exactly like everything else they've ever done. Not complaining. They've still got whatever it is that makes people want to get up and rock, but this should probably be it for them.
They should go out on top and retire. They're old and you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Brian Johnson is about cashed anyway... His vocals are absolutely atrocious on Black Ice. I don't know how they are going to complete a tour without his voice going out. Because if it's that bad on a studio recording where he probably had multiple takes and lots of time to rest, I can't imagine it'll hold out for an entire tour.

Angus and Malcom are co-writing a book called "1000 ways to write the same song".

I wanted so bad to love "Black Ice", but it just isn't all that great. I still love AC/DC and I have tickets for the Houston show, but this release is somewhat of a letdown.
Airbourne's "Running Wild" sounds more like classic AC/DC than "Black Ice."

i'm sure everyone that bashes ac/dc (for writing the same song over and over) would do it in a heartbeat themselves if it would make them millions of dollars!!! i know i would! you can't fault anyone for sticking with the same formula that brought them to the dance in the first place

'Black Ice' suffers from having too many songs, but it's still the best album they've put out in over a decade and a half.
The first half rocks, then tails off pretty bad until the last song. If it were cut down to just ten songs, omitting five songs picked from 6 - 14, 'Black Ice' would be the best album since 'For Those About to Rock'
Take the 15 songs that ARE TOO MANY and pick your favorite 9 or 10 then rearrange them in the order you like and you'll have an average to good AC/DC album.

I don't get those who blast AC/DC for sounding like AC/DC? What else do you want?
Sure, this isn't their best stuff, but it sure beats all the cheap imitators out there (Airborne, etc).
I just wish concert tix weren't $90!
