Report: PAUL STANLEY Says KISS May Record New Album - Nov. 11, 2008
Legendary rock photographer Ross Halfin has posted the following message in the "Diary" section of his official web site:

"I had breakfast with [KISS guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley [on Sunday, November 9]. Paul told me they may make a KISS record, which he'll produce. A real '70s KISS-style record. If Paul can stop painting, which is his other career."

During KISS' Download Festival press conference (see video below), which was held on June 13, 2008 at Donington Park, Leicestershire, UK, Paul Stanley and bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons were asked whether KISS plans to ever record new material. "This is something that's been asked everywhere we go," Simmons replied. "In all seriousness, it's unfortunate, the record industry is dead, it's six feet underground, and unfortunately, the fans have done this — they've decided to download and file-share, there's no record industry around, and we're gonna wait until everybody settles down and becomes civilized and as soon as the record industry pops its head, we'll record new material." Stanley added, "The truth is we have no plans to record. The reason we don't record is because any classic band that hits the road, the last thing you really wanna hear is their new songs. Everybody says, 'Go out and do a new album,' but if you put on a live DVD of any classic band, turn off the sound and I'll tell you when they're playing a new song — it's when everybody sits down. So everybody says, 'Go do a new album,' but who goes to see the STONES to hear a new song? Who goes to see MCCARTNEY, THE WHO; who goes to see any of the classic bands to hear new songs? If you're playing a new song, that means you can't play a classic song. So, really, what's the point?"

Asked if there is any truth to reports that there is going to a TV show to find new members of KISS, Stanley replied, "That kind of got blown a bit out of proportion. There is a always a chance… Because we're KISS, we define ourselves by all the rules we bring — we're not like other bands. Is there a chance of doing a 'KISS II,' so speak? Sure. But it's not gonna take the place of KISS if we were to do it. We're in the midst of our most successful, biggest tour of Europe ever — this is the most successful tour we've ever done, bar any of the past 35 years. So we have no plans to stop. What we do outside of being a touring band, it's up for grabs. We don't live within the boundaries of other bands. They wish they could be KISS; we don't wish we could be them."

After Dynasty and Unmasked, I thought it was all over with, thankfully, Lick it Up proved me wrong. I think another, and another, and another album of KISS originals would be fucking AWESOME! though that's just my opinion...

Don't ask me how this happens, I just lost interest after Unmasked, I've never heard Music From The Elder (I will have to get it pronto!), and the Lick It Up kind of caught everyone by surprise, Paul Stanley sounds great on that album!

In Kiss News today, DNA was extracted from Ace Frehley and Peter Criss forcefully, so as to create clones so that Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons could begin their geriatric "KISS METAMUCIL MILLENIUM" tour in 2021. Simmons and Stanley were not available for comment, since they were taking their afternoon naps.

They should do a new album, KISS fans would love it. Let Tommy and Eric contribute to the songwriting and that would be cool too.
Doubt it will ever happen though.

I hate KISS, but he does have a point. From bands like Metallica and AC/DC, to softer stuff like the Eagles, they get stuck doing greatest hits tours. I'm going to see the Eagles next week, and I'm one of the few who can't wait to hear their new stuff...too bad I'm in the minority.

You hit the nail on the head! There are a LOT of "classic" bands that are putting out great material now. Priest! It's all a matter of taste, but if you write a really strong record, people will buy it, or at least not fall asleep when you play it live. Look at Unholy, one of their best songs, written well after the 70's, or 80's. You can really tell that Gene never thinks of himself as an artist, it's all business. Paul Stanley is by far the best thing about Kiss, as a song writer and as a singer. Not a fan of everything he's done, in fact I can't stand most of it, but he's got some really good songs in the can, and his melodies are SO much better than his lyrics, but Gene is a decent bass player, and should stick to pretending he's in a band. That being said, yeah, the guy has written some good songs, not many though.

They were already old when they put out revenge and everyone liked that album just fine live. I didn't like Psycho circus but that album did ok live too. I thought a Carnival of Souls tour would have been rad. That album would have actually done really well if they actually released it properly at the time it was actually supposed to come out.

Gene and Paul have always written a rocking album "when" it's been really needed......I believe that they will produce a great rock album and shut everybody up, including myself....This may also put to rest the Ace/Pete vs. Tommy/Eric thing... We all love the originals, but a new album would be really cool and interesting as far as having Tommy creating and recording solos on it, because it will validate him to Kiss fans.....

...fans download, I think, is to find out in advance if a new album will be good. Who wants to pay $20 in this economy for a CD with 1-2 good songs on it?

I've heard the rerecorded Japanese album. It sounds to me like they did really take two days to record it-- flat and uninteresting. The drums are mixed way too low, and Paul and Gene sound either bored or strained (Eric sounds GREAT on vocals). Tommy is farking up the solos.

If a new album is in the works, guys, get Eddie Kramer, take 6 months and get it RIGHT.

I just don't see why these guys always have to make boastful statements as if they are so damn defensive about something(s). This time, Paul had to go and say how these guys are a band that everyone wishes they were and not vice-versa. They have to always say shit like this every damn time! This is my problem with thee guys. Who the fuck likes conceited people in general? I sure don't. Not only that, but what Paul is saying is inaccurate: not everyone wishes they were KISS and this includes plenty of bands out there who have been and are continuting to do very well by just being themselves. People don't wish they were other people, they wish that they were themselves doing well with what they have. I know that there are plenty of competitors to KISS that grew up with their music but certainly don't wish they were them. The fact that Gene and Paul always have to say some asshole, unecessary statement like this, is just uncalled for. They have the freedom to do so, so whatever.

I like The Elder quite a bit. Creatures of the Night was pretty damn cool too. Unmasked, I can't really get into. I know that if I had a choice to go on stage or be a member of another band, it sure would not be KISS. There are other bands that I like more and also would be more fun to hang out with overall. I found this out from reading plenty of bio's that leave me with the impression that KISS are pretty square and that they'll throw you off tour for "bad behavior". That isn't very rock 'n' roll now is it??

JR, how have you been, sir?! Long time, no speak!

From the perspective of Kiss, it must be a tough time time to figure out what to do and here's why.

Over 10 years ago, most of us got our wishes to come true and Kiss got back together and toured and toured and did a new album.

Ace and Peter were lackluster in their performances in the end of the reunion tours. And for those who saw them during Psycho Circus tour or the Finale Tour, might agree they really sucked.
That 3-D tour was a bomb.

Now, they want to try and scramble around to see what would work best for them financially and have the best players. Tommy Thayer is a great guitar player, but can't write a song for shit. Ace is a much better songwriter, but can't stay sober long enough on the road.

Eric Singer is a better player than Peter Criss, but Eric can't write a song either.

I saw Kiss on the Revenge tour in 1992 and it was one of the best shows. Paul's new DVD is amazing and that band he plays with is unbelievable.

With over 30 years of material, and millions of fans all over the place, it's hard to please everyone. I would like to see a tour of The Carnival Of Souls album but that probably won't happen.

Other people may want the make up off, get Bruce back in the band and write another album.

They have so many different avenues to choose from, plus, their own continued interest in the band.

He's trying to act all intellectual and all. Face it, you put out crap music, nobody buys it. You put out great music, you sell millions. There isn't a demand for new $cab Ki$$ music because nobody cares. I hear that new AC/DC album is close to 2 million already. Go figure. A band with no $cab members puts out great music, you sell millions, and you sell out 25k seat arenas it minutes.

Its amazing how people mention Eagles, Priest, AC/DC, etc. Yet these bands did new albums and material with original members.
I dont think having scabs, and not to mention that these scabs' history before KISS was in the 80's not 70's, will be successful the way Simmons and Stanley expect it to be. And I love how people mention the Revenge era. One of their worst tours as far as sales. The worst at playing their 70's material on tour. And an album that just went GOLD.
If they're not going to do this album right, then dont do it at all please! If they are going to do it that way, then dont call it KISS.
Do like Page/Plant and make it Simmons/Stanley, because that is what it is. Or better yet do another album in the 70's style Paul and Ace do the same. Leave the rest alone. Which is what it should have been these last bit of years after the Farewell Tour.

Revenge wasnt successful - BULLSHIT - when does an album have to sell a million copies to be good, if thats the case them 9 out of 10 on this site would suck, most of the groups on this site have never has a gold or even close to it - but that doesnt mean that they artent good albums.

Revenge was one of the best non make up albums they did.

Great e-mail you sent me. That was truly funny with Love Gun playing and that dude from American Pie telling the little black kid what it's about... Too funny. The way he explained it to the kid was just too damn funny.

I wrote you back. Crazy shit going on. Love to tell you about it.

As far as KISS goes, I like all the makeup albums except for Unmasked which overall isn't that good IMO. I also didn't really like the '78 solo albums except for the incredible Ace album which is some of the best KISS related stuff put out yet to me. I still like Lick it Up, Animalize, and Asylum. Crazy Nights is alittle too glammy for my tastes so I don't really listen to it at all. Revenge and Carnival of Sould were definitely cool too.

I actually was given the Paul solo CD, "Live to Win" by my real KISS fanatic friend. I'll be checking that out soon. Hope it's good.

You didnt read my comment very well. The comment was people on here mentioning Eagles, AC/DC, etc. And what Im saying is that unless they are going to do it right, why bother. And your comment prior was the Revenge era. I never said I didnt like Revenge or that it wasnt good, I said that that tour was unsuccessful. I went to Lexington KY and Rupp arena wasnt even half full, Tampa was 2/3 full to a place that holds 11,000. I went to many shows that tour and pretty much the whole souteastern part of U.S. was terrible in sales. Totally different in those same places with Reunion, Psycho, and Farewell. And that Revenge went Gold. Not Platinums in the past. It was not a good era for Gene and Paul. If it was, do you think they would have moved on to the reunion? Alive III.... do we have to go there? And if they would have just stopped after the Farewell, we'd be seeing this album and tour huge with original members with original material 8, or maybe 10 if they do this, years later. Psycho's problem was that they should have done that before the reunion.
