DIO 'Holy Diver' Karaoke Performance Results In Beating - Nov. 12, 2008
According to The Smoking Gun, a 24-year-old Wisconsin man allegedly became so incensed by a lackluster karaoke performance of DIO's classic song "Holy Diver" that he assaulted the singer and a second man, police charge. According to a River Falls Police Department report, Kyle D. Drinkwine throttled singer James Mischler, 28, and his friend Cyrus Kozub, 29, on November 7 "over one's ability to sing karaoke." Though cops did not specify which song set Drinkwine off last week, Kozub told The Smoking Gun that Mischler was performing "Holy Diver". Following the assaults, police apprehended Drinkwine after a short foot chase. A subsequent Breathalyzer test recorded his blood alcohol content at .169, more than twice the state limit.

Kyle D. Drinkwine was charged last Thursday in Pierce County Court with a felony count of aggravated battery and a misdemeanor count of battery. He was released on a $3,000 signature bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing November 19. The charges have a combined maximum penalty of three years in prison.

Read the police report and check out the mug shot from The Smoking Gun.

Here are a few more "interesting" karaoke performances of DIO's "Holy Diver":

Shouldn't this be treated the same way as religious blasphemy?
I mean, Dio is god.

good question i say those guys definitley were fucking up good metal. the odds of them pulling off a good dio cover are against them. not many people, even in the music world, let alone a karaoke bar, can do it. just in case that guy is a nickelback fan though, i say we toss him in the slammer.

kinetic- your suggestion of 10 years is way too harsh. as a matter of fact, the guys that got the beatdown should be the ones serving jail time for blasphemy, for they are false gods. it's in the bible.

Yeah I'm with this guy, I hate it when trendy college kids try to sing Holy Diver ironically, like they're way above it and they're trying to impress their jag off friends on their way to a Flight of the Conchords DVD party or some shit.

Better than the last name of Buttram and I am not kidding. I think if I wrote I am not shitting, it just wouldn't be taken seriously...

And to top it off, the lady's first name is Anita. So put two and two together and I have pity...

Don't believe me, do a google search for the name and look four hits down.

"you know damn well all of those people got home that night and logged right on to blabbermouth"

Actually most folks in 'Sconny don't have computers. Ha!

This story is awesome. I went to college in River Falls. The town's population is like 3,000 during the summer and then like, 15,000 during the school year. And the best part is that I've heavily experienced the bar scene in RF and this sounds pretty typical for any given night out on the town.

Who wouldn't have done what Drinkwine did? you get up & sing dio, karyoke style, you better stand & deliver. When the cops asked him why he assaulted the man, the handcuffed Drinkwine simply said "Sir, he was singing Dio's Holydiver & butchering it", the Cops look at each other..."unhandcuff this man, he was simply doing what any good citizen would...sorry young man, you're free to go". Steven Pearcy was the singer I heard.
