JIMMY PAGE Says ROBERT PLANT-Free Band Will Not Tour As LED ZEPPELIN
- Nov. 13, 2008
|
|
A spokesperson for LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page has told RollingStone.com that a new band featuring Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham would not go by the name LED ZEPPELIN. The three musicians have confirmed that they are contemplating going on the road without ZEPPELIN singer Robert Plant, and have jammed witih several potential replacements. Sources have indicated that the leading candidate for the job is Myles Kennedy of the band ALTER BRIDGE. When asked about the collaboration, an unnamed spokesperson for Page's management company, QPrime, told RollingStone.com, "Whatever this is, it is not LED ZEPPELIN. Not without the involvement of Robert Plant." Rumors have been circulating for weeks that LED ZEPPELIN, minus Plant, have been rehearsing with other singers for a potential tour. ZEPPELIN reunited last December for a charity concert in London, and speculation about a full tour has been high ever since. But Plant has indicated that he has no desire to do any live work with anyone for at least the next two years. John Paul Jones confirmed to the BBC that the band has been rehearsing with other vocalists, but he did not mention any names. AEROSMITH guitarist Brad Whitford told a radio show that Steven Tyler had jammed with the group "for fun," while other names in the rumor mill have included Jack White, Sammy Hagar, Dave Grohl and Chris Cornell. White denied that he was approached, while Cornell said he has not been contacted either.

To go on tour without Plant would be a colossal mistake, not only financially, but fan back lash. Let Plant finish his business venture, then go out and make trillions. No one wants to see this band unless Plant is singing.

tour w/out Plant but call it something else is fine. A new band. Glad he wouldn't do the "Led Zep with Geddy Lee", like Queen did(joke). A tour with Plant is equally lame, not a shame in name, but Plant can't deliver, he has even said that his voice is more suited to playing none hard rock, or something to that effect. That 02 concert was all tuned down, this was a band that was jaw dropping, a wrecking ball. Their style of live music is a young mans game. Don't screw with the legacy, its perfect as is. Plant/Page was fine, why does everyone need to see it with the name "Led Zep", to say "I saw Led Zep"?...maybe cynical, but Plant simply can not do what he used to, never mind Page.

As long as they don't call it Led Zepplin and play mostly non-Zepplin material, with the exception of a few songs of course, then I think it's great.

...and it makes me feel alot more into the idea of buying a ticket to see them since they aren't calling it something they're not, and the ticket will probably be 70% cheaper than if they called it Led Zeppelin; and, I still get to see Page and Jones with Bonham Jr.
On the other hand, why are they so set on Myles Kennedy? He blows! If it's at all possible, they should get Jack White. He would be great; he's a modern day legend(whether you like his music or not, you gotta admit it). Cornell wouldn't be to bad either. And, if you had either of those two, they would definately get alot more of a draw to the show.
What's with all of you Jack Black cock riders? He's a walking talking douche bag! Led Zeppelin are a fucking legendary rock act and you want some ass who puts out joke metal albums to sing for them? Gimme a break!

J house makes a great point, get out & play, leave the Zep name alone. If people want to hear page with Plant or Jones, you're getting it, doesn't need to be called Zep, it isn't, nor does it come close to anything they did live in the 70's. Their fastball's gone. I really think people want to say "I saw Zep". It's like seeing The Who now, which I did a year or so ago, it was decent, but if you go looking for the old hedonistic days, its not there. Stones are silly. But it is the Stones....J House, you get fired up, I think the Jack Black stuff is tongue & cheek. Jack White, Jack Black.

Plant and Page toured without Jones, so a precedent was set for this. At least Plant was invited--unlike the enourmous disrespect (and ignorance) shown by not inviting Jones on the first "reunion" tour.

If the tree members of Zep decide to tour without their singer, that is fine. However, it is a lot like how the Dio-version of Sabbath is touring under a different name instead of Sabbath, and are recording a new album. That makes them a different band from Sabbath, though they still play Sabbath songs.
These three can do the same thing, but they need to have a different band name, and I think they should plan to put out an album. That way, there is at least some legitimacy with all of this.

I love that the Dio Sabbath now call themselves Heaven & Hell. It keeps everything intact, the original band is the real Sabbath. Had they stayed together as Sabbath since 1980, then maybe(like ac/dc), but otherwise, its a great move. So this band can get Eric Carmen on vocals & call it "No Quarter". Or "No Fn Quarter" for that matter to drive the point down your throat like JPP's "Tramped Underfoot XXX Hot Sauce". Eric Carmen or Joe Lynn Turner, you can't go wrong with either, their hair is perfect.

Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson is the only person that makes sense to me with them (AND NOT CALLING IT LED ZEPPELIN). There is already the history with Page and Robinson touring, and the fact is, Robinson has that spark, that real special persona and skills necessary that fits right in with the whole vibe of Page, Zep, and the rest. And, though I've been listening to Zeppelin since I was a kid in the early 80's, since like, 7th grade or whatever, the fact is is that I'm tired of seeing Plant not really just going for it and getting Zep back together. I mean, he CONSTANTLY plays Zep songs in concert with his own various bands he has over the many years, constantly reworking the Zep songs in ways that I have found very entertaining and inspiring. But, then, why not just get back with Zep and just go for it man! And if not, I certainly don't see any problem with Page and the rest of them getting together (not as Zep) and doing something like Zep with some other stuff mixed in. Again, CHRIS ROBINSON! Led Crowes (so to speak) would truly be awesome!

These old rockstars come out for the $$ after all.. I remember them saying they would 'Never' do Zeppelin again after JB died.. Its a Zeppelin cover band with original members. I really doubt any new music would be earthshattering, so its good they have a different name. Page does have the right to do the songs in any way he wants though. Even though it will be financially lucrative, I hope Myles Kennedy thinks long and hard before doing it. Alter Bridge will be potentially huge soon after 2 very good CD's and it will be longer term. Alter Bridge are excellent at what they do and his voice works. I would take Tremonti over Page as a guitarist/Songwriter at this point.. Nothing since Zeppelin has been very good for Page, though 'Walking to Clarksdale' with Plant was good. Sorry.

Man those guys must REALLY want to get out and play one last time. Who the fuck is this Myles cat and Altar Bridge? I;ve never heard of them outside this story here that keeps popping up every week.
These Zeppelin rumors have been flying every year since they broke up. And now they are just getting out of hand.
I mean Dave Grohl? The drummer for nirvana? Whats that guy done since 1994. Is he even a singer? He did that Probot album that I thought was really good but hell he didn't even sing a note on it.
Next rumor probably wil be Jack Black.
If they wanna tour fine and don't call it Zeppelin but I don't think anyone cares if there is no Plant. I sure as hell don't want to see them with some nobody no matter how good he is.

next time you are gonna bash Hagar in a thread having nothing to do with Van Halen you should change your name so your transparency isn't so pathetic.
I'm sure we're all very sorry that Hagar proved Van Halen could thrive without your idol (20+ years ago for shit sake) and that Hagar has the vocal chops to be mentioned in a short list of potential candidates to front one of one of the greatest bands of all time while the members of Led Zeppelin probably laughed their asses off on the remote chance anyone even thought to consider Roth.
Get over it.

As long as they don't tour as Zeppelin, this would be kick ass show. I don't know how anyone can complain. It would be cool if they just went out for 2 hours and played classic rock covers. In fact, I would prefer it. Who wants to listen to new shit anyways???
As for Zep touring w/Plant. Not a good idea. I never saw the original band and would love to see them, but someone here was right when the said don't screw with the magic that was 70's Zep. Watch the Earl's Court shows from 75. No way in hell you could get close to that.
On a side note, I did see Page/Plant tour in 95. That was cool. Nothing but Zep tunes. Didn't even have to sit through their shitty solo crap. What the hell is "Big Log" about anyways. John Holmes?

To the guys who asked "who is Myles Kennedy?" he is THE BEST vocalist in the world right now. The guy is a pure rock star.
I was fortunate enough to be at Alter Bridge's Brixton gig on the 8th and he gave a flawless performance. He has got the voice to sing in ANY band in the world. I kid you not.
Im just GUTTED that he might put Alter Bridge on the back burner to do this. The band is kicking ass right now and I would be so disappointed if he leaves. I know Mark Tremonti has said that he's going to remain a member of the band WHATEVER and that its always thier priority, but I can see that slipping on the the back burner!
And I don't want to see a Creed reunion either. Scott Strapp is an ass!
