VELVET REVOLVER Dropped by RCA/SONY BMG - Nov. 14, 2008
BLABBERMOUTH.NET has received word from a reliable source that RCA Records (a Sony BMG label) has dropped VELVET REVOLVER, the band featuring former GUNS N' ROSES members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum.

VELVET REVOLVER released two full-length albums through RCA/Sony BMG — 2004's "Contraband", which has sold 1.98 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan; and its follow-up, "Libertad", which has shifted 301,000 units in the U.S. since its July 2007 release.

VELVET REVOLVER has been looking for a new frontman since dismissing Scott Weiland back in April. Rumored candidates have included ex-SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach, former MTV VJ Steve Isaacs (THE PANIC CHANNEL) and ex-SPACEHOG vocalist Royston Langdon, who apparently had several successful rehearsal sessions with the band.

Weiland reunited with his previous act, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, and has spent the last few months on the road with them.

In a recent interview with MTV.com, Weiland said about the split with his previous band, "VELVET REVOLVER fell apart because there were too many big egos in the band — and I'm including myself. It wasn't necessarily about bad egos, just big egos, and unfortunately, it just mistakenly kind of eroded."

Can you really blame them? There will never be another VR album again. All those guys are far too egotistical to be in a band together. Good riddance, their two albums weren't that good in the first place.

ya i had a really bad feeling that velvet revolver would never release their third album. slash seems happy right now with his solo album, duff seems happy with his loaded project so there seems to be no rush on their part to get the album out. i think they just have the attitude that if it happens it happens if it doesn't thats fine too.

the record company dropping them has no barring on a new album, they just have to get a band together again & shop to another label, if they so choose...they didn't even reach Gold on there last album. Good or bad, unless you get lots of promotion, rock bands have it tough getting heard now. Metallica being an exception, no matter what they release, rock radio plays it.

Slash and Duff are too damn good to be wasting their talent in Velvet Revolver.

Kinda like Audioslave, these guys tried too damn hard to fit into today's music scene and not doing what THEY wanted. Anyone who has heard Slash and Duff play(together or separate) know they can do 20x better than anything VR did.

Dead or Alive, Adler is not sniffing any reunion should it happen. Even if he's straight, he can't perform. He's a casuality. Lost cause. Forget that reality show, which shows him at his worst, if he had any skills left, Slash would invite him to play on his solo record to help him out, but he can't play. He's mildly retardted now.

VR environment did water Slash down. Its good that Scott was there to push the boundries, get them to be more than playing straight up hardrock(not that there's anything wrong with that), but they tried to modernize the sound too much....Heard Slash on Boston radio last week, he said the Producer (STP's producer) completely changed songs from their origin, without their knowledge & they went along...and he wouldn't allow that this time.

SLASH, you have been sitting around long enough. Make a new superband with your drummer MATT and bassist DUFF.

Wow us, don't bore us. New band, new name, new frontman, new label. We'll find you a frontman, worst case. Just come in this blog and ask us.

Weiland was the weak link live... still a great frontman when he was firing on all cylinders though. The chemistry between Slash and Dave on guitars and Matt and Duff keeping the back beat moving made for some damn good tunes.. The production was lacking on some cuts but overall two great rock records.
I hope they continue with a new singer and really go head to head with the toy Gun's... I hope they don't ever get back with Axl that would just empower that little freak more than he ever deserves...great for his time but his time is gone... along with his hair and vocal cords. Nuff Said!

This is no real surprise. The label is just cutting off the their inevitable losses at the pass. "Fans" have a tendency to desert bands when there's a change in the vocals (PRIEST, MAIDEN, SEPULTURA, SKID ROW).

snowy white: thas probably right.

but both VR albums were good and Libertad was almost great, very good, no real hits and thats not realy a bad thing, maybe salesvise but not musicvise. both very good hard rock albums and many times better then similar bands today, Linkin Park, Nickelback and shit like that. i just hope they found new singer and Stone Temple Pilots will make a new album too
