Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist IZZY STRADLIN Is A Fan Of 'Chinese Democracy'
- Nov. 14, 2008
According to The Pulse of Radio, former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Izzy Stradlin hasn't heard all of the band's new album, "Chinese Democracy", but he likes what he has heard. Stradlin, who quit the group in 1991, told Punk.bz, "I have listened to some tracks off the record and I enjoyed them." As for whether his former bandmate and sole remaining original GUNS member Axl Rose was responsible for the break-up of the classic lineup, Stradlin said, "Axl is a very complicated guy, but very talented."
Stradlin, who has continued to perform and record as a solo artist since leaving GUNS, opened up about why he quit the band, explaining, "Our lifestyle was very self-destructive. I was seeing how my friends were dying, and after some time of that I decided that I'd had enough. I didn't want to continue being a part of that. Now we're all clean, and that's great."
The guitarist says he "never imagined" that GUNS N' ROSES would reach the heights of success that it hit following the release of its 1987 debut album, "Appetite For Destruction".
Stradlin added that he has remained friends with the other former members of GUNS N' ROSES. Bassist Duff McKagan played on his most recent album and he also speaks with guitarist Slash, although a planned show together fell through. Stradlin also made a guest appearance at a GUNS N' ROSES gig in New York City two years ago.
"Chinese Democracy" goes on sale November 23 exclusively through Best Buy.

These guys have to reunite. I mean...they just HAVE TO.
I often daydream that Duff, Izzy, Slash and Axl agree to work together right as Steven leaves Celebrity Rehab sober and ready to roll. Steven then calls up Slash and Slash offers him the chance to try out for the band. He takes him up on the offer and rocks it! They then record Appetite for Destruction 2 which turns the music world on its head again.
I then snap to it and realize that this will most likely never happen.

It all has to do with the way musicians play off of one another. Izzy would write the backbone of the song and Slash and Duff would flesh it out. Without any of those parts it just isn't the same.

STeven would never be apart of a reunion, even sober, he can barely function. That reunion, without him, would be the straw that breaks the camels back for popcorn.

Well, a reunion with Sorum instead of Steven would be cool too. No Dizzy though. I want as close to an Appetite experience as possible.

reunion talk does get overblown, especially GnR(Zep IS trying), but just seeing Adler handle himself, not drumming, but eating, talking, sitting down, simple tasks, there's no way he could handle the chores of being the backbone of a major band. No droll cups allowed.

Izzy was the backbone of GnR. In my opinion, he is the best rhythm guitar player I have ever heard in a rock band.
I love Slash too, but the bottom line is he needs a guy like Izzy to really make a good record great (see Velvet Revolver vs. GnR). Izzy had the songwriting skills, Slash had the riffs.
If Guns did ever get back together, I would have to see Izzy in that line up to be satisfied.

Is kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach a class act too? Luckily Vince Neil gave the guy what he deserved, later on Izzy apologized to Neil & his wife. But little Axl couldn't let it go & wanted to fight Vinnie but failed to show up everytime they had set up. Anyway,I'm looking forward to hear the finished product,I really like some of the songs but some of them are awful. We'll see who sounds more GnR,Velvet Revolver's 1st album or Axl'n friends.

COMMENT | Axl wasn't the main songwriter posted by : If I die tomorrow 11/14/2008 6:57:23 PM
Izzy & Slash I'm sure wrote 50%,Duff 20,Axl 30 I guess. You can clearly hear he wrote Nov Rain,Estranged, the epic kind of songs BUT he was the main LYRIC writer. Listen to the 1st VR album and add Axl's voice in your head and BAM! your listening to Guns 'n Roses!

it will become obvious over the next couple of months, that Axl Rose will be the only one who really won't need a reunion of the old GN'R.

I think the guy had talent. I hope it doesn't take away from the other guys they're all talented guys and were a great team - fact remains, Axl was the leader, the most talented, the most focused and the most driven of all of them.
