VINNIE PAUL Responds To Accusations That He Is 'Cashing In' On DIMEBAG's Legacy - Nov. 19, 2008
During an appearance on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" this past Monday night (November 17), former PANTERA and current HELLYEAH drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott was asked about the criticism he has received via various Internet message boards for the fact that the proceeds from his Dimebag-related projects are not going to charity. "I don't even know where to go with that other than, you know… They're [the detractors] not in the same position I'm in or had to go through what I've gone through here," Vinnie replied. "It's really none of their business where it goes, so I don't know how else to address it — I really don't even think about it; it doesn't cross my mind. I'm doing this for the fans and for them to enjoy what Dime was all about and give them more than what they already had — to increase his legacy and to make him larger than life forever. And he'll outlive all of us. I'm beyond letting things like that pick at me or irritate me. I just have to look past 'em and keep rolling."

Vinnie Paul Abbott's appearance on "Rockline" is now available for streaming at this location.

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was shot to death along with three others during a DAMAGEPLAN performance at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio in December 2004.

Dimebag was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk in May 2007 in a ceremony attended by Vinnie Paul, their father Jerry Abbott and Dimebag's longtime girlfriend, Rita Haney, along with members of ALICE IN CHAINS, ANTHRAX, KISS, SLAYER and Ozzy Osbourne's band.

A bronze bust of Dimebag was unveiled during the ceremony and later installed on the RockWalk's posthumous inductee wall, alongside luminaries such as Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and Robert Johnson.

A special one-time only all-star tribute to fallen PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist and Texas native "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was held on August 9, 2008 at the one-day Ozzfest at Dallas' Pizza Hut Park.

The tribute to "Dimebag" Darrell featured Vinnie Paul (acting as musical director and playing drums), along with an array of prominent hard rockers, including HATEBREED's Jamey Jasta, SLAYER's Kerry King, SOULFLY's Max Cavalera, King Diamond, ANTHRAX's Scott Ian, ALICE IN CHAINS' Jerry Cantrell and METALLICA's Lars Ulrich.

Vinnie Paul Abbott has just released "He Came To Rock" — a new paperback photo book/DVD on "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. "He Came To Rock" contains over 400 pictures of Dimebag along with a biography of his life written by authors Susan Doll and David Morrow ("Elvis, Forever In The Groove", "Marilyn Monroe: Her Life And Legend"). Also included are personal tributes from a number of metal's most prominent musicians, among them SLAYER's Kerry King, ANTHRAX's Scott Ian and OZZY OSBOURNE/BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's Zakk Wylde. The DVD portion of the package consists of the previously released "DimeVision - Vol 1: That's The Fun I Have", complete with never-before-seen bonus footage.

The book was compiled by Vinnie and his father Jerry Abbott and has been in the works for more than a year. "We are very excited about this as it's a true tribute to the King himself!" Vinnie previously stated.

He should NOT have to explain himself. Anybody ever hear of William Shakesoeare? Wonder why that is? Ever hear of Beethovan? How about Plato? How do his critics know the money's not going to charity? Have they seen his tax returns? He isn't required to broadcast every charitable donation he makes. I think there's more integrity in not advertising it. He's giving Dime's fans what they want. No harm, no foul.

I sure don't dig Damage Plan or HellYeah but I can say thanks for stirring the memories. Those were some great days.

If you're criticizing Vinnie Paul regarding his book on his late brother Dimebag let me refer to you this particular song:

You tried to spit in the eye
Of a dead man’s face
Attacked the ways of a man
Not yet in his grave
But your hate was over all too soon
Because nothing is over
And nothing’s through,
Till we bury you

For the love of brother
I will sing this fucking song
Aesthetics of hate,
I hope you burn in hell

The words I read on the screen
Left me fucking sick
I felt the hatred rising
You son of a bitch
You branded us pathetic for our respect
But he made us Driven,
Such deep reverence,
Far beyond the rest

For the love of brother
I will sing these fucking words
Aesthetics of hate,
I hope you burn in hell

Yer!

Wow!

Long live memories
Live this freedom vicariously
Defend tenfold
His honor we’ll always uphold

For the love of brother
I will say these fucking words
No silence against ignorance
Iconoclast, I hope you burn in hell

May the hand of god strike them down

That sounds about right.

It's costs Vinnie to produce these items does it not? Its paying out of his own ass to produce things to continue the legacy of his brother, who knows the little money that he may be making might be going into more dime projects? People are stupid.

Don't get it twisted, children. The cops would bust Vinnie's ass for prostitution in a minute.

However, I can't say that I disapprove. I've seen the Vulgar Videos about a billion times, after all.

Vin, you may be a complete tool to talk to, and Hellyeah should be considered a fucking hate crime punishable by immolation (mainly for Chad Gray's laughable immitation of someone who may have even looked in a southern direction), but for trying to keep the legacy of your very talented, and unfortunately deceased, brother...you most certainly have a pass for your blatant whoring. Who cares where the money goes?

Anyone who could possibly think such a release tarnishes the Dimebag legacy is a fucking clown. He was a phenomenal talent that future generations will be thankful to know about, and this release gives everyone an amazing insight into Dime's life from the one person who should know better than anyone else: HIS BANDMATE AND BROTHER.

To the guitarists out there, I'll give you an example: I am willing to lay hefty odds on the fact that many of you reading this have clamoured for whatever Jimi Hendrix or Randy Rhoads (to name but two) material you could possibly get your hands on - much of it possibly of inferior quality - and why? BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T HAVE THE GOOD FORTUNE OF SEEING THESE AMAZING PLAYERS ALIVE!!!

Fuck, some people are idiots.

So while Exhorder wee releasing groove metal...Pantera was trying to be Motley Crue.

Vinnie is not a douche. This book is not gonna make him nearly as much money as his music will. Dime was Vinnie's BROTHER. And they were obviously close. And if you don't have a brother, especially a brother you're close with, a brother who is your best friend, you can NEVER BEGIN to understand what Vinnie must have gone through four years ago and must still go through every day. They played music they loved together for years.

My brother and I are close like I imagine Dime and Vinnie were. We sometimes fuck around and have silly bass and drums jams. He's a ridiculously talented musician, and I'm a dabbler. But when we jam, we're on the exact same page. But, that's my best friend and my blood.

My brother and I work together, kind of like how Vinnie and Darrell worked together. I can never imagine having to watch my brother get shot in the face and killed right in front of me. It must be like a nightmare you can never wake up from. I couldn't imagine my brother not being there to make retarded jokes with, or just talk or hang out.

If you don't have a brother like that, you could never understand.

So what if Vinnie isn't donating money from Darrell-related things to charity? Is it really making your day that bad? It's probably going to the Abbot family anyway. Worry about something else.

Why not? I don´t see the hatred towards this awesome band and especially Dime. If they were successful is because they adapted well and they were a TALENTED AND UNIQUE group, with their PERSONAL AND RECOGNIZABLE sound, that´s what made them so special, massive and unforgettable. People are no fools. See what they became, the BEST metal band in the 90´s, period. If they changed, why can´t they? They did for the better (it could have been the other way), and they had the most influential guitarist whether you like or not at the time hands down. They will always be remembered, no matter how you try to prove the opposite, and I don´t care about their 80´s albums either.

Now I dream of Vinnie and Phil Anselmo and Rex shares a hug together. And proceed to play "Cemetary Gates", "Hollow", "I'm Broken", "Primal Concete Sledge," and "Fucking Hostile". And maybe "Walk," since everrrrryyyyyfuckingbody wants to cover that song. It got ruined for me but would love to see it done right one last time.
