VELVET REVOLVER's SLASH Confirms RCA Split - Nov. 20, 2008
As BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported on November 14, VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash has now confirmed that the band has parted ways with RCA Records (a Sony BMG label), the record company that released the group's first two full-length albums. According to a posting on Slash's official fan site, "while it is true that VR is no longer with RCA, the truth is not as negative as the rumor. The band owed RCA money for a third album which at this time they are unable to produce (no singer). The band and RCA parted amicably. When they are recording the new album, it most likely will be for a new label."

VELVET REVOLVER's 2004 debut, "Contraband", has sold 1.98 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its follow-up, "Libertad", has shifted a little over 300,000 units in the U.S. since its July 2007 release.

VELVET REVOLVER has been looking for a new frontman since dismissing Scott Weiland back in April. Rumored candidates have included ex-SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach, former MTV VJ Steve Isaacs (THE PANIC CHANNEL) and ex-SPACEHOG vocalist Royston Langdon, who apparently had several successful rehearsal sessions with the band.

Weiland reunited with his previous act, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, and has spent the last few months on the road with them.

In a recent interview with MTV.com, Weiland said about the split with his previous band, "VELVET REVOLVER fell apart because there were too many big egos in the band — and I'm including myself. It wasn't necessarily about bad egos, just big egos, and unfortunately, it just mistakenly kind of eroded."

Nah Weiland just explained that there were too many big egos...

Have you ever heard Bach Speak? Nothing personally against him but Fuck.. that guy's got plenty of ego to go around. Ever see that supergroup show? Bach is a maniac.... Although if his wife were to pose for the album cover of a velvet revolver album.. I might change my position.

But what They need to do is grab an unknown.

Nu GNR (AXL n Roses) <<< V.R.

Nu GNR (AXL n Roses) <<< Slash, Duff, Matt and the Keyboard guy

Slash can play, Duff's solo band is not too shabby.
AXL's solo record has no balls and has techno-flamenco sound

Not only will SeBITCHian's ego fuck things up even worse than Weiland........but he will make the band change it's name to either Velvet ANIMAL or SAVAGE Revolver. Because it rolls off his mental challenged tongue.

The cd seemed to get a good push from the record company, but in the end Weiland was too mundane for fans to react to. William Bailey is not the guy they need either. Too bossy and inconsiderate. I wish Slash and Duff good luck although I'd rather see them with Adler. It would tempt fate a bit and sound a lot better.

Finding a good singer might require getting an unknown who's got the fire and not just the friggin' "image"

Bach hinted he and Slash are working on something, but he cant say. Maybe he is doing some vocals on Slash's solo album for a song or two.

John Corabi is who VR need. He plays guitar, writes good songs and is a great frontman. As well he is very easy going.

VR sucked with Weiland and if they get another singer who cannot write songs, then they will continue to suck.

This is a band that from the get-go I wanted to like, but because of poor songwriting, Weiland putting on the tortured-artist routine, and Sorum comming off liiking like a douchebag everytime he opens his mouth, I now could care less about these guys.

I hope Slash & Duff come to their senses and put thier talent to better use somehow.

I for one was a big fan of Contraband and hated Libertad. I think that the more modern sound of the first album is awesome. They tried to do the epic shit on their second release and failed terribly. These guys are fun to listen to and jam to, but they should leave the epic songwriting to Axl. Whether the original GNR worked or not in the end, they still made great music together. Axl needs the others and so they need him. GNR REUNION! its only fitting right now.

What ever happend to the rumor about Keith Kupono? I know he can sound a lot like Weiland sometimes, but I think his voice is more powerful and his writing is much better.

These guys keep looking for someone who's already been around the block in the music biz. The problem is everyone in that category is either A) washed up, B) An addict, C) Has an ego the size of Texas.

You mean to tell me there isn't some unknown dude out there somewhere that just kicks complete total ass?

See the problem is they are trying too hard to be modern. Both albums they put out were mainstream radio garbage. Everyone went out and bought Contraband hoping for a continuation of GNR, instead they got a watered down version of STP, hence why Libertad's sales are so much lower.

They need to get some new unknown dude and completely change their sound...and the name of the band while they're at it.

Boy, they only moved 300,000 units of Libertad. Ouch...that's not even close to Gold. You'd think with 2 powerhouse musicians in that band they'd do better, but you can't shine a turd.

Velvet Revolver and GN'R.

Let's face it, Chinese Democracy will sell 1.98 million in one week. (what Contraband has sold so far.) It will sell more records in one day than Libertad has sold so far.

I had hope for Velvet Revolver, but at this point, I think they are a couple of months from calling it quits. After hearing the vocals on Chinese Democracy, how do you fathom settling for a guy like Roy Langdon?
