METALLICA: Original 'Master Of Puppets' Artwork Sold For $28K

The original cover artwork for METALLICA's classic 1986 album "Master of Puppets", painted by artist Don Brautigam, was snapped up yesterday (Monday, November 24) for $28,000 in a sale of popular culture and entertainment art at Christie's auction house at Rockefeller Plaza, New York City. (Note: The $35,000 final figure includes the Christie's buyer fees.) The framed, 17x17-inch piece is signed on the lower right of the painting "DB." The auction was part of the punk/rock sale, which included memorabilia from such artists as the RAMONES, SEX PISTOLS, THE CLASH, BLACK FLAG, LED ZEPPELIN and JIMI HENDRIX. I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!!! AHAHAHAHA!!!
Master of Muppets title was actually coined from watching earlier Muppet shows with Jim Henson as a major influence in regarding this album title, because we all know that JIm was Master at his craft.

Classic album, but not that great artwork...but, maybe its some dude like Paul Allen buying for a music museum. Guess it serves a place there.

Original artwork for one of the biggest bands in the world's best albums. Am I the only one here that is amazed it sold for only $28,000?? When you hear about paintings that look like nothing but smeared paint selling for millions... $28,000 for this is a steal. Good for the new owner.

Enlarge your LP cover on a xerox color printer, it will cost you under 10$ and this will have the same artistic value...
28 000$ is too much, for any kind of painting, from anyone.

Possibly the most cliche album art ever.
Great album, and I think people's association with the music is clouding their (your) feelings for the art. It's juvenile.
Even when this came out, I thought the LP ruled and the art was a high-school project.
