ROBERT PLANT Comments On Proposed LED ZEPPELIN Tour Without Him - Nov. 26, 2008
According to the Robert Plant Newswire, former LED ZEPPELIN singer Robert Plant confirmed to the Birmingham Evening Mail on November 6 that he would not be joining guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham on the road for the proposed ZEPPELIN reunion tour. He said it was partly because he'd be busy working on the follow-up to his awardwinning "Raising Sand" LP.

"In January, I'm starting to record a new album with Alison Krauss and T Bone Burnett," he revealed, before adding, "but I understand that everyone's got to eat," implying that the Plant-less LED ZEP has his blessing.

He also imparted one piece of significant information: "They won't be calling it LED ZEPPELIN!"

Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham recently confirmed that they are contemplating going on the road without Robert Plant, and have jammed witih several potential replacements. Sources have indicated that the leading candidate for the job is Myles Kennedy of the band ALTER BRIDGE.

When asked about the collaboration, an unnamed spokesperson for Page's management company, QPrime, told RollingStone.com, "Whatever this is, it is not LED ZEPPELIN. Not without the involvement of Robert Plant."

Rumors have been circulating for weeks that LED ZEPPELIN, minus Plant, have been rehearsing with other singers for a potential tour. ZEPPELIN reunited last December for a charity concert in London, and speculation about a full tour has been high ever since. But Plant has indicated that he has no desire to do any live work with anyone for at least the next two years.

John Paul Jones confirmed to the BBC that the band has been rehearsing with other vocalists, but he did not mention any names. AEROSMITH guitarist Brad Whitford told a radio show that Steven Tyler had jammed with the group "for fun," while other names in the rumor mill have included Jack White, Sammy Hagar, Dave Grohl and Chris Cornell. White denied that he was approached, while Cornell said he has not been contacted either.

Plant would have given a nut to tour with Zep instead of fiddling around with the Strange Sensation. Now he's struck gold with Allison Krauss and thankfully for his own ego he doesnt have to go on tour not being able to sing Zep songs in different keys 2 octaves lower.

Plant seems like a really cool guy. As for the people who say he can't sing anymore, what do you expect? The guy is 60 years old. Things change a bit when you get to be that old. Give him a break.

Call Coverdale - he's the man for the job. Coverdale/Page was a great record. And it burns Plant's ass that Cov can sing better than him. Go out with Cov this year and next year Plant will find time in his busy schedule.

I saw him with Allison Krause at the Fox in Detroit in June and they both sounded great. They gel really well together. He may not be able to sing some Zep tunes anymore without changing keys but nobody's perfect. The O2 footage I saw sounded really good. I think he is relishing in this different genre and not wanting to become a tribute act to himself.

I am also excited if they do a PBJ tour with Myles Kennedy - he is an amazing vocalist and guitar player. Alter Bridge is light years ahead of Creed and they deserve the attention this would bring to the band.

Agreed. Coverdale is the man and they can call it whatever they want, cause most people who listen to this would go out and see Coverdale sing with the remainder of the Zep group and DC could probably hit the notes better than Plant anyways. Dont get me wrong, Plant needs to do this tour before another "original" member keels over. If he has his head stuck in the sand, Coverdale is the man. It will NEVER happen with Coverdale or Plant for that matter, but either way would be f-ing awesome....

Former SOUNDGARDEN/AUDIOSLAVE singer Chris Cornell has told Canada's Sun Media that he's not interested in filling Robert Plant's shoes should those reports about LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham touring next year with a replacement singer come to fruition.

"I would never do anything like that whether I were approached or not," Cornell said. "It just doesn't make any sense to me at all. I would not want to go see me performing LED ZEPPELIN songs with the two other guys that used to be in a band called LED ZEPPELIN while Robert Plant is out somewhere touring.

"That's not a ticket I would buy. God bless 'em, but that's not LED ZEPPELIN. I find it completely depressing. I'd never do anything like that. I mean just out of respect to the legacy of the band."

Give Robert a break guys. He knows squarely what he wants and what he doesn't want.

Clearly, he wants to spend more time with Allison Krauss. Anyone blame him?

Clearly, he doesn't want to tour arenas and sing 30-year old retreads. Anyone blame him?

Obviously alot of people want to live back in the '70's again. I have seen a few interviews with Robert and he came to America, spent two years working on finding the roots of Americana music (mountain music), he is the one who called Alison Krauss to join him, and he loves what he is doing now. To those who think he can't sing, listen to the CD. He and Alison are making beautiful music together and I hope they continue. Of Led Zep, he said he is not that man anymore.

Apparently you did'nt watch the CMT Crossroads show with Plant and Krauss that was recorded live. The man can DEFINATELY still sing, Also saw the gig in Boston this summer, and it was excellent. As for a Zep tour, I'm glad that he's letting a sleeping dog lie. Plant is very aware of his band's legacy. I think that he would like to be remembered sort of like the Beatles,as having called it a day, while still at the top of their game. That being said...would I still go see them if they did tour? You'd better beleive I would!

he is no longer singing in the lz key therefore he can sing that garbage with kraus. I am not saying he cant sing all together just that at 65 he couldn't hold a lz tune if you handed him a vinyl record.

For those bashing Robert for not wanting to recreate the past, too bad for you. Fact is, Robert has been taking a lot of risks since the mighty Zeppelin crashed and has proven himself to be the workhorse of the band. Jimmy and John Paul have less than half the musical drive Robert does. I remember reading multiple articles about Jimmy putting out a solo album and have been waiting for that since 2001. John Paul kicks ass, but how long has it been since his last album?.. I don't think either Jimmy or John Paul have the balls to make a tour or record happen, and as they pine for the days of old, Robert has rambled on. I venture that the next time Jimmy plays is in 2012 for the Olympics.

A Zeppelin tour would be kind of stupid, and the whole Plant and Krauss thing is a lot more relevant and sincere so I would rather have him do something that can show what he can do now or what else he can do as opposed to doing Zeppelin and inevitably showing his age.

And yeah he can sing just not like he could in Zeppelin anymore which was all about shrieking and showing off. He does a lot of interesting stuff on the Krauss record and he pulls it off perfectly live, even when they did the Zeppelin stuff. And actually he did a fantastic job and the reunion...but you can tell his heart isn't in it anymore and why would it be? Zeppelin is a young man's band and he has done that...

Go listen to the CD he put out last year with Allison Kraus.
Also, Robert Plant's solo material does not suck. Sure the Led Zeppelin albums are classics but his solo material has always been very good. His last solo CD that came out in 2005 'Mighty Rearranger' is a great CD.

Andalou, Plant's so-called musical drive is mostly him using his association with Zep to further his career. He's most succesful when he uses the rhythm, light and shade, power and mystery, he learned while being part of Zeppelin. He gets his biggest responses by trotting out Whole Lotta Love and other Zep songs, and has made a fortune off the good will of Zep fans, which he is straining to breaking point.

For a long time now, everything else is his mostly boring hobby of digging up other people's good songs and putting a retread on them. Then he has the balls to go around insinuating that his musical teachers and betters - Page and Jones - are "stuck in the past."

At least they have the class to respect him and their shared history by not using the Zep name. Time they took the self-absorbed twit back to schoolin' on the music, though.

Please, Jimmy, John Paul, and Jason, get a singer and come out to rock... lots of us are ready! Call it whatever you want, I'll be there.

I just hope that this dosen't spell the end for Alter Bridge! They are WAYYY to good to end because of something like this. I know that they have all said they will definatley do another record but I hope they don't get sidetracked with a creed reunion or anything.

I know it must be a dream come true for Myles and he is the most amazing singer but I hope he can see that Alter Bridge is the future and there is no long term future for this new band! Hope he does a 6 month tour and then gets his ass back where it belongs in Alter Bridge.

Regardless of what they call themselves, Robert Plant is the draw here, not Jimmy Page. Plant could go out on a solo tour promising to sing nothing but Zep tunes, and 100,000 seat stadiums would sell out instantly. A Plant-less Zep out on tour will be a colossal mistake. Nobody wants to hear Zep tunes sung by anyone other than Plant.

What's the freaking hurry here? Page and Jones haven't done anything the past 30 years, so what's another year of waiting until Plant's ready to go?

In regards to Plant's solo music sucking, yeah, the last 3-4 CD's have been marginal, but go back and listen to the first 2, both are still relevant today.

Everyone take a deep breath. We all want to see them tour, together. One more year is not going to hurt anyone, and would likely gross a billion dollars worldwide.
