FAITH NO MORE Reunion In The Works? - Nov. 29, 2008
According to U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine, industry insiders suggest that hugely infuential '90s alt-metal band FAITH NO MORE is planning to return next year. Kerrang! understands that a number of U.K. venues have been placed on hold for shows from the band next spring, while U.K. festival appearances are rumored to follow in the summer. Founding bassist Bill Gould played down the speculation, telling Kerrang! "If anything like this were to happen, it would have to come from the band, and I haven't spoken with any of them in over a year. So as far as I know, there isn't anything to talk about, and I'm pretty sure that if you were to contact [Mike] Patton [vocals], he would tell you the same thing."

Despite several years of vigorously denying claims the band would reform, Mike Patton seems to have softened in recent months. In an interview with the Artisan News Service in January, he said "I wouldn't rule it out. I don't think we need to reform the band, but maybe there's other things we could do together."

Watch video footage of Mike Patton talking about FAITH NO MORE and "The Real Thing" at Artisan News Service.

FNM are still the best live band I've ever seen - three nights in a row at Brixton Academy were the best gigs I've ever been to. If that line up toured again I would chew my own arm off to see it.

Woo Woooo - all aboard the clue train - first stop is you.

Angel Dust is one of the best albums ever written - it shits all over every other album FNM produced. 'Introduce Yourself' ranks around fourth on the list when considering the rest of their output. Chuck Mosley can't sing worth shit and there were three, maybe four decent songs on IY, tops.

Or are you one of those tools who still harps on about 'Bleach' being a better album than 'Nevermind' or 'Morbid Visions' being better than 'Arise'

Yeah !

Faith No More, they were very influental to all the bands that had no sub-genre tag, until Liz Civarella (sic) of Metal Maniacs coined or popularized the term Nu-Metal. Which she could of borrowed it from someone else but who knows. The first time I saw the phrase Nu-Metal was in Metal Maniacs.

So yeah, I would love to see a Faith No More reunion, it would help create a second generation of fans, to start cranking out some detuned and bouncy rock and roll.

Alot of people credit Korn for the classic Nu-Metal sound, but is it fair to say this band is a catalyst band for Nu-Metal style since their name comes up, alongside Nirvana, Korn and Rage Against the Machine. The album I am talking about is "Angel Dust", alot of Nu-Metal fans says it is important, to that style.

Nu-metal is a stupid phrase.
*****************************************

Sure all those bands who are in that category are bands really at the heavy end of grunge. But since it would make no sense to say to a record store clerk i am looking for artist in the vein of Nu- at the heavy end of grunge rock, since alot of those artist were arriving on the marketplace as the same time as alot of Modern Metal bands, Pantera, Fear Factory MachineHead, Cymonic Drive, Exterma..etc. The heavy end of grunge rock + modern metal, and influental industriral artist was the so-called "new metal", to kids entering junior high school and high school, circa 1992-1995.

I know that Nu-Metal is a phrased that is controversial because most Nu-Metal bands are rock and roll acts, with no metal riffing in their style, but the record store clerks know what I am talking about, and looking for when I say "Nu-Metal". Anyone? ever walk in to a Hot Topic and demand that they sell you every "Mall-core" artist CD in stock.

I'd love to see them get back together, but I agree, it would have to be with Jim Martin. They seemed to have lost the plot after they gave him the axe. Anyway, they were great when I saw them on the Angel Dust tour (Helmet opening!)

Soundgarden... was an early fan. Badmotorfinger was an incredible disc. But, at least when I saw them in 1992, they lived up to their reputation for being incredibly ragged live. It would still be cool to see them back together, but I doubt it's going to happen.

I started getting heavily into this band in '97, after the release of "Album of the Year." Of course, they broke up soon after, in April of '98. Never got my chance to see them!

I know I'm in the minority here, but I was always excited to hear the "nu metal" tribute to them as well. I think it would be cool to hear takes from SOAD, Korn, Disturbed, etc. featuring some of FNM's cuts. For some reason the project never materialized though, too bad.

I remember seeing these guys back in 1997 when they put out "Album of the Year". They were opening for Pantera. Machine Head, Limp Bizkit, and Coal Chamber played before them. They got booed off the stage by a bunch of close-minded Pantera fans. I love Pantera and was there to see them too, but Faith No More is a great band and you idiots that are comparing them to "nu-metal"? They just did something innovative. No way was their music soulless, fabricated, out to make a buck like all of these other nu-metal bands. These guys were real artists who just happened to get big. They could easily reform and make a ton of dough but that's not what's important to them. Not many bands like them around.

Also, their albums are all very musical and different from one another. Yeah, not seeing it. One of the greatest bands ever. Would be a great candidate for Ozzfest headliner. Oh, and $haron, if you're reading this, yes, you can make money having these guys on the bill!!! Ozzfest needs to be a mix of good old school metal along with the newer stuff to maintain credibility!!!

There are a few good nu metal bands out there, but those are VERY few and far between... and most of those bands have steered more toward traditional metal these days anyway, so my argument may have just gone out the window.

if Big Sick Ugly Jim Martin is on guitar. Saw them on The Real Thing tour at the old Bayou in Washington DC, they had the excellent Circus of Power opening. Total fucking chaos was this show, packed to the rafters, hotter than hell, and one of the most amazing live sets I have ever seen. Big Sick Ugly jumped into the crowd after his solo in the encore, the Commodores Easy, picked up a chick in the front and ran backstage with her while the band finished. I'll fly to England if this truely happens.

I met mike bordin last October while he was touring with Ozzy. I told him what a fan I was of faith no more and without asking he told me not to rule out a reioun. I figured he was just being nice, but jeez you just never know. Amazing news. Also I don't think I've ever seen this much excitment for anything on blabber mouth before. Must be a first. Oh and the whole numental thing you guys are bringing up is just stupid.

Oh god... that would be awesome... I agree though, it should be a reunion with the Jim Martin line up... not those strange guitarists the had in the later years! And yes, if England is the only place this reunion happens, I guess I will go there too!

I will travel very long distances to see them if this happens. It doesn't really matter who plays guitar but it would be a bonus to see them with Jim Martin. Trey Spruance was the best guitar player Faith No More ever had though. He's also an incredible song writer as well.

I´ve seen this band live TWICE, with Martin in `Angel dust´ and `KFOAD, FFAL´. I loved them live with Jim, I even remember they came out stretching themselves as if heating up but ONSTAGE IN FRONT OF ALL OF US, we all laughed our asses off. Then they took their instruments and started playing. The concert was incredible, they were signing autographs outside and they even played `Jizzlobber´, my fave song from `Angel dust´. Unforgettable. I´d love to hear from them again. This band is incredible.

If you say so, you don´t know shit about FNM. Chuck Mosley´s voice is a joke. Mike Patton is THE VOICE. How can anyone deny this? I didn´t expect this. How can´t you like Mike Patton´s incredible and versatile voice? To me he is the best and most versatile vocalist I´ve ever heard in a band, a true genius. He can do ANYTHING in ANY type of music if he wants to: to me his most appealing lines are when he gets operistic in `Angel Dust´: varicose, comatose, senile, remember all of you? Metalheads are not used to anyone singing like that, and I freakin´ LOVED it.

Though I believe that a FNM reunion would be a fuckin blast I don't believe it will happen. I find this to be a rumor at best. A good one but just not factual.

They took too long. I am not interested anymore. Metallica, Guns And Roses, etc. Not interested. I have found so much interesting music through indie labels I don't care about mainstream rubbish anymore. They took too long to do this. Not that I was interested in mainstream crap to begin with, but I'm really not interested in it now.

AND LIVE? HOLY FUCK!!! THEY KILLED IT EVERY SINGLE TIME. STILL, TO THIS DAY ONE OF THE BEST "CLUB" SHOWS I EVER SAW WAS THEM AND PRIMUS. JUST THEM TWO. PRIMUS WAS JUST GETTING READY TO GET SIGNED. THEY BOTH PLAYED OVER 2 HOURS APIECE. IT WAS PHENOMINAL. AS FAR AS THE NU-METAL TAG? YOU FOOLS ARE TRIPPIN'. IT TOOK WELL OVER A YEAR AND A HALF FOR THE REAL THING TO ACTUALLY START "SELLING". IT WAS SO DIVERSE, NOBODY KNEW HOW MARKET THEM. AND IT JUST BAFFLED THE FUCK OUT OF ALOT OF PEOPLE. SINCE THEN EVERY ALBUM HAS BEEN DIFFERENT AND THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MADE THIS BAND SO BRILLIANT. JUST BECAUSE A FEW BANDS MIGHT HAVE TAKEN A SONG OR TWO FROM THEM AS INFLUENCE, IT AIN'T THEIR FAULT. DON'T BLAME THEM FOR THAT BULLSHIT.

Bring on the reunion of FNM! It would be amazing, but surprising, since Patton has basically bashed anyone who even mentions them getting back together. Would be surprising for Martin to return as well, since it seems like he has been out of music for so long, growing his giant pumpkins and all.

I saw these guys once on the 'Album of the Year' tour, with Limp Dipshitz opening and FNM was absolutely amazing! Bungle live was great also.

A FNM reunion would be awesome, but I won't get excited about it until it's confirmed.

Jim Martin would NOT have to be involved; I actually don't care who plays guitar. The band reportedly hated him, much like they did Chuck Mosely. I'd rather have someone else play guitar that the band can endure for an entire tour than tour with a douche they can't stand just to make a few fans happy. Martin wasn't that great a guitarist to be worth any kind of hassle.

Someone under this post called FNM a radio band; Why? Because of "Real Thing"? They got better and even less commercial on their subsequent releases with, as many folks on here already said, "Angel Dust" being a masterpiece. There are a couple of FNM songs rock radio plays infrequently, and I'd be thrilled if they played more bands like Faith No More instead of the other crap they play.

As far the whole "Nu-Metal" thing, I don't necessarily agree. I think FNM brought about an attitude "of do what you want musically" than starting any particular trend. Patton obviously influenced a whole generation of singers and Nu-Metal ones in particular (who Patton has no regard for). There were several factors that brought about Nu-Metal and it isn't because of just one band.
