GUNS N' ROSES: More 'Chinese Democracy' First-Week Chart Positions Revealed - Nov. 30, 2008
GUNS N' ROSES' new album, "Chinese Democracy", has registered the following first-week chart positions so far (Note: The album wasn't available a full week in many of these territories when the charts were compiled):

Brazil: #1
Finland: #1
New Zealand: #2
UK: #2
Australia: #3
Ireland: #3
Japan: #3
Norway: #3
Hungary: #4
Netherlands: #4
Sweden: #4
Denmark: #7
Spain: #12

Early U.S. sales reports suggest that "Chinese Democracy", which was released through an exclusive deal with the Best Buy chain, might not be the blockbuster the industry had hoped for, according to The New York Times. Sales figures will not be available until Wednesday (December 3), but early estimates put the first-week total at 300,000 copies (including a reported 25,000 downloads at iTunes on November 23 not counted towards the opening week for the Sunday release) — roughly 50,000 more than the opening number registered by "Contraband", the 2004 debut from VELVET REVOLVER, which features in its ranks Rose's former GUNS N' ROSES bandmates Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. KANYE WEST's new album, "808s and Heartbreak", will be No. 1 on next week's Billboard chart with a total that looks to be between 450,000 and 500,000.

The industry wants this 'Huge' cd, but this aint it. The songs are OK, but not nearly as inspiring as even the 'Use Your Illusion' discs. I do like some tracks. Should have been released years ago, and in that sense, nothing will measure up. This has been talked about forever and the die hard GnR fans are now older and will get it when (or if) they get it at all.
Also, it was a terrible Idea for them to go the 'Target' rte only. That is a stupid move now that the holidays are here and everyone will be shopping at malls and outlet stores. Unlike AC/DC who have deal with Walmart. Walmart is a much better recognized chain with more of a broad potential than Target. Most fans shop at Walmart, even for fucking groceries, so they will pick the AC/DC cd up on a whim because they are in the store and AC/DC always sounds like AC/DC. Plus they released it months ago and got promotion through Walmart for its release. I dont think people realize the exclusivity to Target for the GnR disc.
GnR hasnt released anything in so long, they need it everywhere. Especially in malls. There was minimal ads on TV and Radio, unlike AC/DC where it was all over the place in ads and was sold cheaply. And this isnt even GnR really, so not nearly as many people will make the extra trip... You would think the Management would realize this, especially seeing that GnR is far from proven as sellers at this point, seeing it is an AXL solo CD basically.
Dumb Move, OK CD, Glad the hype is over for fucks sake.

You hit the nail on the head my friend.

I personally love the CD but mainly for the killer vocals and guitar solos. Very good musicianship on this CD.

But I can see where people would be disappointed and I blame that on Axl. Way too much hype for the CD and it never had a chance to live up to the hype.

But nonetheless, it's an awesome CD.

I tried, dammit did I Try. I love 'GNR and wanted to get into this album. I kept trying to listen to it, but I just can't. Hell, I even tried again yesterday by listening to it on their myspace, but just can't. On the other hand, I've been listening to Death Magnetic all day. Sad to say from someone who had lost all faith in Metallica and had nothing but hope for GNR.

of hearing of fanboys using the lame excuse "it's just an Axl Rose solo album" thats why it licks donkey taint. nope.... not at all. If you look at the cover of the cd it says GUNS 'N ROSES, not Axl Rose. So look for another excuse as to why this boring, outdated compost heap of an album failed after 17 years.

But I'm sure Axl is thrilled that Nickelback is around and putting out albums...because as long as they are, someone will always be putting out shittier, more phoned in albums than axl is.

It's a fantastic album! (no doubt, it will be above most peoples' heads... If you don't like it, go and buy that c*cksucker, Kanye West's new album...)

Also, bear in mind, according to Sebastian Bach, Axl has several mor albums' worth of material in the can... (C.D. and, three more, presumably...)

So, let's say 16 million $ for FOUR albums... 4 mill each... At $12 a pop, each one need only sell 333,334 copies to break even... This one, alone will do way more than that... Axl is no fool and, like I say, "Chinese Democracy" is brilliant, even if most sheep don't get it...

Granted, it would likely have been easier for people to digest under the name AXL ROSE, instead of "Guns N Roses" but, so what? It is what it is.. like it or, don't....

a best of over the past decade plus. This is an album which has been done for some time... Axl probably atleast one cd done and maybe two done. So to say he doesn't write a great song every year is false. I do love the cd but this is not all of Axl's 100 finished songs all thrown on 1 cd. No one tells Axl how to do it, probably the only reason he came out with it was too piss off Dr. Pepper! Ok how can you say its not a Guns N roses cd?
Slash, Izzy and co. was not GNR. It was actually Tracii Guns and Axl Rose.. Go google how the name came about!!! Axl owns the name.. So he's a fucking genious for having the rights to it!

A friend of Guns N' Roses' front man Axl Rose claims the wayward singer plans to release a trilogy of albums by 2012.

Sebastian Bach: "...One of my favorite songs is called "The General" which is so, its by far the heaviest metal tune I think ive ever heard Axl do, this slow grinding riff with these high peircing vocals, screaming vocals. I was like , when is this coming out? and he said "2012". I was like dude, your killin me! He goes, "well this comes out on the third record. it relates to this song, its a trilogy, this goes with this lyrically." hes got it all figured out, hes just different than other people. he does thingso n his own time, in his own way, but you know...the worlds not prepared for what ive heard from this guy. its got the grandness and the epic-ness of november rain but with the snarl, the attitude of Appetite..."

"See, the thing that nobody gets, that I get, is that he has like four albums done. Ive heard it. So get ready! All you people who dont think hes gonna put out a record are sadly mistaken. He just takes his time. its his album. Axl does what he wants to do, thats the way it is. And just cause you havent heard it doesnt mean its not done..."

3. Yung Jeezy - The Rececsion

4. Ludacris- Theater of Mind

5. Kanye West- 808's and Heartbreak

Don't get me wrong im a huge metal head, but this year hip hop out weighed all genres of music. It was a historic year for the genere. Bash it all you want, those albums are harder then anything any metal group has put out.

Secondly, i dont dig the new Metallica, AC/DC, Nickelback, Slipknot, or Axl Rose albums that are out.

Thirdly im sure theres some album by some unkown Eupropean band or American band under the name "Dislyectic Flesh " whose abum is elements of deathcore/ and other nasty shit grunted out of the voice of the singer?

Honestly its a shame when hip hop outshines rock, and its even a bigger shame that know one can recozine that, and yes im a white boy, but look at the quality of music your plagueding your ears lisening to.

At some point you gotta draw the line. You cant just keep using a band name if very little remains of the original or classic lineup (whichever one is more relevant).

For example, Led Zep with Bonham's son on drums? Great, I'd buy it. But, no Robert Plant? No, sorry, that goes too far. Jimmy Page has said that if Page/Jones/Bonham tour with a new singer, it wont be called Led Zep. That shows the integrity that Axl doesnt have.

Deep Purple? Only one original member, but the original lineup was pretty obscure (not nearly as obscure as the pre-Slash GNR, though!). They've got 3/5ths of the classic Mark II lineup, with a great keyboardist and guitarist filling things out. Fine, but if one more of the classic lineup leaves, they should call it quits or change the name.

How about Queen? Well, at least they have half the original band instead of 20%. But, still, it's pushing it. At least they have SOME of their sound, but Paul Rodgers, good singer as he is, doesn't fit in.

Lynyrd Skynyrd with 2 out of 7 members of the classic lineup? Sorry, I aint buying that. That's almost as bad as nu-GNR. Thats when we have to start boycotting.

"Guns and Roses"??? 20% of the original lineup of a once-very democratic band with several writers? Now, that's true BS. I'm glad that the public is rejecting this album. Axl deserves it. Band names are not just commodities to be endlessly abused. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a trend.

your so so right, if it was all about the music then most progressive and metal bands yea and jazz bands would be selling millions, but they are just too complex for "normal" people to listen too. people who just listen to what they are told or 1-2 songs and album and only the hits, they dont like complex stuff, they just like some singalong stuff thats beens made many times better before.
i have one friend like this who only listen to The Wall by Pink Floyd, and my other friend played him Comfortably Numb and he didnt even knew it was on the album. these are the people that are buying all this Nickelback, Linkin Park and these other shitty bands.

Chinese Democracy is a very good album and gets better with every listen, and he hasnt advertised it thats much either.
