DUFF MCKAGAN Says AXL ROSE 'Sounds Amazing' On 'Chinese Democracy'

Bassist Duff McKagan ( VELVET REVOLVER, LOADED, ex- GUNS N' ROSES) was interviewed this morning (Friday, December 12) by "The BJ Shea Morning Experience" on the Seattle station KISW 99.9 FM. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below. On whether he's heard the new GUNS N' ROSES album, "Chinese Democracy": Duff: "I have, yeah. I think Axl [ Rose, vocals] sounds amazing. You know, I'm glad he put out the record he wanted to put out and I think it's gonna be successful, him going out and touring. People have been talking how the record's doing. I think it's a longevity thing; it will do fine for him. And I wish him the best of luck." On whether there is any truth to the rumors that Axl Rose tried to reunite the original GUNS N' ROSES lineup before the release of "Chinese Democracy": Duff: "I think all of it's rumors. It makes for good, you know, talk around the water cooler, but I don't think much of it is based on any fact." On whether there's been any communication between him and Axl and on the possibility of a future reunion of the original GUNS N' ROSES lineup: Duff: "No, there has been no communication. I've grown up. There are so many other things that made me realize, in my life, that made me realize, 'Oh, you're an adult now,' you know? Petty things just go by the wayside. I don't really have time for any of that stuff anymore. As an adult, I see what you guys see. Like, OK, well, everybody is alive and perhaps one day. And if we did it, it would be a blast. It's not anything, by any means, that I sit around and wait for or hope for. If it happens, it happens, and if not, that's fine too." DUFF MCKAGAN'S LOADED will perform at KISW's annual Holiday Hangover Ball, to be held tonight (Friday, December 12) at Showbox SoDo in Seattle, Washington. Original headliners SALIVA who were scheduled to play, have been forced to cancel due to an unexpected health scare of lead singer Josey Scott, and have been replaced by QUEENSRŸCHE.

Will you ex-Velvet Rev guys PLEASE stop shining Axl's ass at every opportunity? Yes, we get it, you want a reunion, and yes, it will happen. But you, Slash, and Matt Sorum are starting to look a little pathetic now.
If you keep this up, Axl is going to screw you bad on the cash-split when it does happen because he KNOWS you're so desperate. Keep pretending you're looking for a replacement in VR - act like all is well.

Axl does sound amazing, glad to see he hasn't lost his voice. Along with Sebastian on his new album Angel Down for anyone who has been skeptical about checking that album out, DO IT. Sebastians voice is amazing on the album and it is a quite heavy album i like to say its the best and heaviest SKID ROW album i've heard!!!

I see no reason why Chi-dem will do so much "better" with the video n all !? Axl's voice is doctored up. The songs are at the very best semi-memorable, apart from this i love.
Loaded is bloody boring, saw them with twisted sister in italy this september. Horrible. People didn't know the songs and they only responded favorably during some Stooges/Iggy thing and it's so easy... soooo... yeah...whatever.
GnR can be reunited the easy way or they could also make this a soap opera.... i do predict the latter....might just happen.

...Axl's voice is an acquired taste, but he does sound great on this album. Whether it's because his voice is in good shape or whether its because we're hearing 10,000 takes pasted together and pitch-fixed with pro-tools, I don't know. However, as long as you don't hate Axl's voice, it is one of the better things about Chi-Dem. I've been plenty critical of this album, but the singing is not defelective.
For everybody accusing Duff of "kissing ass for a GNR reunion, you obviously didn't read the article, did you? The man is a class act, he's found something he can genuinely like about the album, and he doesn't sound hopeful about or even interested in a GNR reunion. People ask him if GNR will reunite, and he's basically saying "no, and and it doesn't matter to me if they will" in a positive and openminded way. For that, he's kissing ass for a reunion???

The single STUPIDEST thing that the Axl fanboys have been saying in the last few weeks is something like "Who cares about Duff, like changing whoever plays the BASS GUITAR actually matters!"
...
If you actually think or believe that whoever is on the bass guitar doesn't matter, then you don't understand shit about rock music. Duff is/was a monster bass player (not in terms of technical skills, tho he's a hot player, but in terms of the huge, growly presence he has--gave GNR a massive bottom end).
Put it this way: when Jimmy Page and Robert Plant got back together w/out John Paul Jones, they didn't call it "Led Zeppelin." There is a reason for that. I can ACCEPT The Who still using the name w/out The Ox, but fact is, they no longer have balls as a result. Can you imagine Maiden without Steve Harris? Losing Cliff Burton just about killed Metallica.
I could go on, but I think you get the point: the more of a genuine rock band you have, the more the bass matters. And Duff was more important than most. I love Tommy Stinson too (The Replacements are my favorite band of all time), and he's actually a decent replacement for Duff (less technical skills and presence, but he at least has a somewhat similar sound), but the idea that whoever is on bass it doesn't matter is just an "idea" worthy of a Bitchney Spermbank fan, not a rock fan. Fuck off, crank up "This I love" and jack off to yer Axl poster if that's what you really believe.

When Stephen left, the band's chemistry was altered. When all the original members except for Axl left, the band's chemistry was destroyed. I'm not saying that the new band doesn't have chemistry, but it's certainly not the same chemistry (and it's certainly not the same band!)
And yes, anyone who knocks the importance of bass players doesn't understand rock music, period.

Axl is being sued again by ex-members, could not see this coming - he's always right you know... you cannot blame him for GN'R's faults since 1990 all the way, Merk's the one now for a while. Let's wait for the next PR release about looking up to the future without using other people's fame to promote oneself, "Steven thinks I'm his God, Izzy is great 'cause he has not sued me once over rights after 94, Slash and Duff keep coming back to a brand name that is in debt by now and they keep suing me even when I try to be discreet, get off my ass fuckers! And all the other side-musicians I forget, talking to Matt was "pleasant" though!
