AEROSMITH Frontman Performs With TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA In New York, New Jersey - Dec. 14, 2008
AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler was the special surprise guest for the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA concerts at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York on December 12 and the Izod Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey on December 13. According to Kevin Alba of MetalAsylum.net, "halfway through the [Izod Arena] set, [TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA] mastermind Paul O'Neill told the audience not to leave until the last note of the night was played because there was a huge surprise in store. When the time came, Paul O'Neill came back out and introduced Steven Tyler who came out and sang 'Sweet Emotion' and 'Dream On' with TSO backing him up as the crowd went completely wild."

Commented TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA guitarist Chris Caffery (also of SAVATAGE): "[Playing with Steven Tyler at the Nassau Coliseum and Izod Arena] was extra special for a ton of reasons. Mainly because AEROSMITH is one of my all time favorite bands and it was surreal to be standing onstage and performing these songs with Steven.

"The Nassau Coliseum venue is very special to me, I saw my very first concert ever there when I was 11 years old. It was KISS and JUDAS PRIEST. My best friend's dad drove us there, I still go sit in the seat that I watched the show from each time I walk in this building.

"I have played there four times now. Three headlining with TSO. I first played there with SAVATAGE on the 'Hall of the Mountain King Tour' opening for DIO and MEGADETH on New Year's Eve 1987/8.

"The Izod venue, or as we all called 'The Metalands,' as kids is even more special. I grew up in Northern New Jersey so I must have seen 100 shows there. I had always dreamed of just playing there. Each time I walk in there to play with TSO, I walk up to the upper level and just sit in the seats and think about the shows I had seen in the past. AEROSMITH, JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, THE GRATEFUL DEAD, SPRINGSTEEN, BON JOVI, JOHN COUGAR, DEF LEPPARD, TED NUGENT, TRIUMPH, PINK FLOYD, SCORPIONS, OZZY, METALLICA, JOURNEY... the list goes on. Headlining our fifth show there and having Steven Tyler as a special guest was so incredible!

"So... tie all of this history together. This will sit forever in my mind as some of the greatest moments of my life and career! Steven was so amazing!

"Thanks to everyone at the shows for the incredible crowd response, to Paul O'Neill for making all of the magic happen and to Steven Tyler for the priceless memories!"

Fan-filmed video footage of Tyler's December 12, 2008 performance with the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York can be viewed below. A better-quality clip of the "Dream On" performance can be found here.

for dedicating most of their career to one single day of the year.
Aren't there better things to do than remaking old boring Christmas songs, and playing the same crap every year?

dude, you have a serious problem. have you even heard TSO's music? They do not remake old boring Christmas songs. And, Christmas is really not just one day, it's a season. How do you feel about TSO's "Beetoven's last night" or Savatage's "Dead Winter Dead"? I'm dying to hear your detailed review.

for you guys who posted the negative comments...get a life! Yes, TSO is primarily about Christmas, but it is also a ROCK concert! And, I can't think of a better person to be on stage singing in New York than Steven Tyler. He's the best!!! And, Aerosmith will be hitting the road next year!

Dude...do you even know all the shit that Jon Oliva has done and is doing with his career?

And TSO in particular, Beethoven's Last Night is amazing. High hopes for Night Castle (which hopefully isn't delayed again). I've yet to see their live show, but every account I've heard has called it the best they've ever seen.

The musicians have other projects to be working on all year -- TSO is a special entity.

I can't believe all of the negative comments. TSO is not just Christmas music and like someone else said Christmas does not have to just be a day, it can be the holiday season. TSO has also released Beethoven's Last Night which is absolutely amazing. In addition to TSO you have Savatage which is the great metal band that TSO has formed out of. Last night the band did not only play Christmas music but they also played "Prelude To Madness" from the classic Hall of the Mountain King as well as "Believe" from the Streets album in which they dedicated to the late great Criss Oliva. They also performed a new song off of Night Castle which was very dark and very heavy.

I was at this show last night and it is hands down one of the best shows I have ever been to. It's just amazing to see these guys on stage in front of all these people and know that they come from Savatage and in addition to Savatage Alex Skolnik is also in Testament and Jeff Plate in Metal Church. From start to finish the show was mind blowing and these guys deserve all the praise they get for putting together such an amazing and magical night. I truly hope that more people start to realize who Savatage is and they can get back together at some point maybe for some summer festivals (Wacken, Bang Your Head, Rocklahoma).

Unfortunately, there won't be a new Savatage album (at least according to Oliva), go listen to Jon Oliva's Pain, it's great music and as close as you'll get to new Savatge, but TSO is great in it's own right and it's a lota fun to take my whole family to their show every year

"Beetoven's last night" is the only album I like, it's awesome. I just can't stand Christmas garbage, period. And making 3 albums for it too much.

I've been to TSO's show the last 3 years, and loved it every time. Stellar musicianship, great tunes and a great show. I can see where the christmas themes might turn a lot of people off though, especially the more extreme metal crowd, even though I myself am mostly an extreme metal fan. Honestly though, I'd be much more excited to see the likes of Alex Skolnick and Jeff Plate then to see Steven Tyler, especially to sing Sweet Emotion. still cool though.
