METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD Interviewed By 107.7 THE BONE's NIKKI BLAKK; Video Available - Dec. 30, 2008
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield was interviewed by Nikki Blakk of San Francisco's 107.7 The Bone radio station backstage before the band's December 20, 2008 show at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. Watch the chat in four parts below.

METALLICA has issued a new nine-minute video for the song "All Nightmare Long" from its latest album, "Death Magnetic". The clip, which premiered at Metallica.com, is a weird and creepy mix of animation and what is made to resemble old stock footage. It tells an alternate history story of mutant spores discovered by the Soviet Union and used as a biological weapon to turn U.S. citizens into zombies during the Cold War. The band performed the song itself live for the first time on December 5 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

James Hetfield told Sun Media that the lyrical content of "All Nightmare Long" was "an attempt to get back to the H.P. Lovecraft mythos" which Hetfield referenced on the band's classic 1986 track "The Thing That Should Not Be".

Don't ease back now James. You got everybody's attention back with some killer tunes. Now release a totally unexpected new cd as soon as humanly possible filled with some leftover tunes from the St. Anger and Death Magnetic sessions. Riff it up and shut the haters up once and for all. Don't get lazy now. You guys CAN do it!! The biggest band over, you're so fucking close. DO IT!!

They delivered the goods with Death Magnetic.

His interviews definitely show that he seems to be a kind, level-headed person.

Can't wait to see them in Philly in a couple weeks with my brother

Now does anyone know where I can dig up a bootleg or some kind of recording of that free show they did in Philadelphia November 11, 1997? That million decibel march?

In the 80s he was so awkward and angry. In the 90s he seemed so edgy... and now, he seems like a guy who finally loves life. And during all those phases of his life, he has written some amazing music. It just goes to show that you don't need to hate the world, be wasted, and fuck groupies to make good music.

...if you're not a Metallica fan, don't waste your time reading these articles, watching interviews, and brainstorming what kind of negative remarks you can come up with. I believe Britney Spears just came out with a new record for you

i like everything from pete gabriel to slayer to pig destroyer to sick of it all to anything else. really, i dont think that i 'cant handle' slayer or anything, i just dont want to hear beer-swilling screamers 24/7, i like it when artists grow. and metallica did just that. i like load and reload, and i think st. anger was a furious slab of just how they felt, but this new one is fuckign GOLD and i cant stop playing it.

get over yourselvs bashers, metallica is the biggest band in the world for a reason.

@BillyMays & goatrodeo7

So what do you want? If they play what the fans want, they're sellouts. If they play what they want, they're sellouts.

Just because they make a shit load of cash doesn't mean they're sellouts. It means people like what they hear when they listen to them, hence record sales. It's not fuckin rocket science.

Nikki Blakk is pretty damn hot IMO.

Anyway, great interview. Death Magnetic rocks. I haven't had any problems with the sound quality of the CD. It's great for Metallica to truly be back. I didn't think that they had it in them at this point to make a truly great album and they did just that.

That's funny how they try and convince people how metallica sucks and how they sold out and they only want our money.

Fucking idiots.

I swear to fucking god.

...cause that is the image we have from James nowadays: a cool and happy guy, enjoying life and his family, playing what he wants, and specially making us fans happy.
That's a great way to get older and have a big smile on face.
If you detractors think that this is not "metal", don't blame the guy for being proud of his life...
Happy new year!

It doesn't really matter what anyone thinks of them ...for the guys who hate they just list off bands directly or indirectly influenced by them. For those who only like the first few albus ...that's the history that paved the way for the tours and countries and radio stations that metallica was on first they paved the way on so many levels it doesn't matter what they release because the already did everything first. That's why your able to get see and listen to everything underground the laid a foundation a long time ago...for those who make fun of his hair...you've got to much fuckin time on you hands ... me to
( I can already hear you...fuck that guy...)
