ROBERT PLANT Granted U.K. Civic Honor - Dec. 31, 2008
According to the BBC News, former LED ZEPPELIN singer Robert Plant was among the 966 people granted civic honors yesterday (Tuesday, December 30) in the U.K.

The honors are bestowed in the name of Queen Elizabeth II and are recommended by a panel that considers suggestions from government departments and political parties as well as from members of the public.

Plant was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, or CBE, which is one rank below a knighthood.

The singer reunited with his former LED ZEPPELIN bandmates for a one-off London show last year. Plant also won a Grammy in 2007 for his collaboration with American bluegrass singer Alison Krauss.

What exactly was he honored for?
Sparing the world from a Zep reunion?

Haha... kidding. They were a good band... just not quite my taste.

This all goes to prove what an outdated and out of touch institution the monarchy really is. Just how long was it since Robert Plant did anything of note musically? This is being considered for his music with Zeppelin?? Wheres Jimmy Pages CBE??
What a load of crap.

he did win a grammy last year. he did make two kick-ass albums lately, such as dreamland and mighty rearranger. he's kinda having a resurgence IMO.
anyway I do agree that all of led zep should be CBE. they are nothing short of legenday

Fair enough but I thought those albums were released in 2002 and 2005. I think its the 'NEW YEAR' honours list and its nearly 2009!! Zeppelin had a very short career compared to many other bands and their 'legendary' status is a little over stated in my opinion. They were once my favourite band and saw them a few times in the seventies but I think times have changed musically in the last 30 years...a lot for the worse but many many times for the better. There was also not so much competition back then.

The monarchy is saying "Bobby P, you're great, we dub you an Earl of Lobe, but not as great as Mick Jagger, Elton or McCartney, all knighted, call them Sir!".

The New Years honours list are absolute bollocks, it's time to get rid of them, outdated and outof touch. As if ERII has ever heard a Led Zep track or read a Terry Pratchett book.

No disrespect to Plant or Terry Pratchett, love your work but you've done nothing more than your chosen vocation (and made a mint to boot), outside of that, what have you done worth honouring with a few letters after your name?

There are ordinary people that do amazing things every day, honour them. Bring on the motherfucking republic, this country is in the toilet.

Happy New Year to all Blabbers by the way!

Plant is selfish though, as many fans want a last tour with the man's son on the kit...
