AC/DC Named Best Band For Autograph-Seekers; LED ZEPPELIN Crowned Worst
- Dec. 31, 2008
|
|
HoundsTV.com, which features the latest in celebrity autograph news and video, has compiled a list of the best and the worst musicians for autographs and meeting fans in Canada in 2008. The best were AC/DC, COLDPLAY and THE GUESS WHO, while the worst were LED ZEPPELIN, BON JOVI and THE EAGLES. Regarding AC/DC, HoundsTV.com writes: "Perhaps of all tours to hit Canada this year, none was more anticipated by fans and autograph collectors than AC/DC. It had been more than five years since the last time they breezed through Toronto and everybody remembers how fan friendly they were back then. It was good to see things had not changed with AC/DC and they were still the same great guys in 2008. From the time they checked into their downtown Toronto hotel until boarding the bus to play the sold-out stadium gig, to after lunch on Bloor St. the next day, Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Cliff Williams, and Brian Johnson (and yeah, and even the usually tough drummer, Phil Rudd) were signing champs and all round great guys greeting fans and collectors at every turn. AC/DC — the signing champs of 2008. And with a good new album and buzzed about world tour — probably the biggest rock band in the world right now." On Robert Plant and Jimmy Page ( LED ZEPPELIN): "While they were not touring together, founding LED ZEPPELIN members Robert Plant and Jimmy Page arrived in Toronto within weeks of each other during 2008. Plant, on tour with Alison Krauss played a summer show, and Page came to the Toronto Film Festival weeks later to support a film. Page announced on arrival at TIFF regarding autograph requests, 'I'm kinda finished with that,' and stuck to his word. Robert Plant was equally dismissive the few times approached by collectors over the course of the couple of days he was in Toronto. By mutual agreement among many, Page and Plant were the worst rock-god signers to come though during the year. Autograph collectors went home with their LED ZEPPELIN memorabilia unsigned during 2008." Read more from HoundsTV.com.

If I was worth multi millions of odd quid, in large part due to the average punter, who might in turn shove a pen in my face I'd sign whatever the fuck you wanted too!
Meanwhile, long live Acca Dacca! Hopefully I can catch them next year at the O2! Anyone got a spare ticket?

I'm surprised to see that Coldplay is on the "nice list", seeing how I always seem to find articles depicting what a grouchy douche Chris Martin is.

You should try getting even near anyone but John Myung from Dream Theater. They don't do press conferences and when they are around the manager comes and says: "don't look at them". WTF!

Dallas Toller wade and Karl Sanders from Nile gladly signed and talked with me and my friends. same with Pat Obrien and Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse. Death metal has a mean image but the bands are almost all very nice guys.

I have Lucien Francoeur from AUT'CHOSE and my fav Vincent Peake (ex-Groovy Aardvark) sign my concert ticket after a show, also on this bill was AWAY on drums (VOIVOD) and a few more greats.

Like how Nile was to InFlames11, they were really cool to me as well and signed my latest Soilent album that got wrinkled during the heat of hte show. I'm not a "collector" in a trade-it-on-eBay sense, but it'll remain a special memory for me of year 2008.
I think i understand why some hate to sign. I felt a little like an asshole asking for sign to Soilent guys... but then again, when they are that nice, they deserve recognition from fans like us. Especially when it's gods like AC/DC we're talking about.

I'd rather AC/DC be formulated and quite honestly uninspiring than to be like Led Zeppelin....who are the Vanilla Ice of rock and have ripped off more artists than all the illegal download site COMBINED!!!!!!
Maybe if Zeppelin hadn't been sued for blatantly plagerizing blues artists, they wouldn't be so bitter against their fans!!!!!

No one wants a Bon Jovi or Eagles autograph anyway,so no harm there.
True rock gods look out for their fans, and visa versa.

I've met Chris Robinson a few times, and he was nice only once. The last time I ran into him,I asked him to autograph the new cd. I got the whole band to sign, but when it got to him, he scratched something barely visible on the cover, looked at it for a second, and was like fuck it, here ya go, good enough. He never asked my name,or so much as even looked at me. He just kept talking over his shoulder to the guy in back of him, and walked off. Shit, I was the only fan there,at the time. It's not like he was being pestered by tons of obnoxious fans. Look, I know famous people are not obliged to greet every fan, that wants something from them. They always have the option of declining, hopefully in a polite manner. But if they're gonna stop for you in the first place, than it would be nice, if they at least tried to make an effort to be cool.

Anyone criticizing Zeppelin for autograph policies must have tried to get an autograph from Zeppelin themselves, which must be 28 years ago or more. It may seem like a no-brainer, but I still doubt anyone at HoundsTV.com has actually done this.

I've generally had good luck getting signatures. It depends a lot on the mood and time constraints of the artist. Here are the extremes I've encountered:
Beyond great: Shadows Fall (one of the nicest group of guys I've met), Fair to Midland, SlipKnot, Josey Scott, most of the 80's era hair metal acts - except the Crue - they needed a lot of security and buffering between them and their fans.
Moody/bad signer: Dave Mustaine. He must have been waysted at the time but talking to him was like talking to a corpse - he had no pulse and I doubt he knew where he was at the time. He had his sunglasses on in the middle of the night.

dont realize that these guys already know what ppl do with the signatures and thats put them on ebay to make a buck so that is why they dont want to sign shit but im sure if you ask for a picture with them they wont mind at all cause you cant sell that and wont make a buck on their name and fame.

I can't get Jon Bon Jovi's autograph? Pardon me while i open up my wrists. I met Iron Maiden when Number of the beast first came out. They were very cool about signing all of my import singles and albums. Steve Harris was especially cool. He seemed to really appreciate the fans and was happy to talk to them. Up the Irons!
