Who Will Induct METALLICA Into ROCK HALL?
- Jan. 5, 2009
|
|
METALLICA is among the nine nominees for the 2009 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with the five final inductees set to be announced this month. The Pulse of Radio asked frontman James Hetfield if the band has given any thought to who should induct them at the ceremony if they make the cut. "It's tough," he said. "We haven't really, you know, hit the ultimate person who we'd like to have do it. It's like you want someone who actually you've inspired, and you want someone who's charismatic, who can tell their story, but also you kind of want someone that people actually know who they are. You know, I was thinking, 'Well, why don't we just get, like, the uber-fan, you know, go up there and induct us, you know. How cool would that be?'So we're still going back and forth with all of that." METALLICA themselves inducted BLACK SABBATH into the Hall in 2006 and performed a medley of classic SABBATH tunes at the ceremony (see video below). The shortlist of 2009 nominees also includes JEFF BECK, RUN-DMC, THE STOOGES featuring Iggy Pop, CHIC, WANDA JACKSON, WAR, LITTLE ANTHONY AND THE IMPERIALS and BOBBY WOMACK. Nominees are eligible on the 25th anniversary of their debut release under their official name. METALLICA's debut album, "Kill 'Em All", came out in 1983. This year's ceremony is set for April 4 at Cleveland's Public Hall, with tickets made available to the public.

Now I wouldn't throw that idea in the garbage too quickly.
But Dave was part of the band, that would be odd if they had him do it. I think he'll be part of the induction w/Newsted.
Be who they are today, they also had these former members put in their blood sweat n tears to help produce some pages in the Metallica History.

It is a mute point, Metallica will not be inducted. We need to wonder who will be inducting Chic, Wanda Jackson and Bobby Womack.
If by chance Metallica gets in what about Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.

But I'd almost be embarrassed to be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of fame.
1. It's a dumb idea to start with, kind of conflicting with the rebellious and ever changing nature of rock.
2. It is so poorly done. So many obvious bands are left out... You almost have to suck completely to be chosen.

1. Mastodon would be my first choice, but they might not be big enough if VH1 is doing the show again. They are definitely influenced by Metallica and they'll have a new album to promote. I'd watch the ceremony if it were them.
2. Down- Phil may be recognizable enough and Pepper has been friends with Metallica for a while, so it could work. But again, probably not enough for VH1.
3. Foo Fighters- They are actually the only mainstream band I can think of to induct Metallica. Grohl is a rock star, and he tries to keep his metal roots with his side projects. They might not be terrible. Certainly better than Korn.

-played Summer Sanitarium, probably has some good stories to tell -influenced by Metallica -genuine fan of Metallica -knows history of rock and roll better than most artists -has respect of critics
Korn would also make sense in that sense they're a commercial mainstream band influenced by Metallica, but I think they burned that bridge with Jonathan Davis' highly publicized criticisms of St. Anger.
I would like to see Les Claypool do it, but I won't hold my breath.

Machine Head. They love Metallica and they still kick ass. I would've said Slayer but that's a disgrace to Slayer themselves who should be inducted also. It would be a crime if Pantera, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth don't get inducted. (P.S. Pantera has a short wait thanks to their mid 80's power metal albums.)

The Music Hall of Fame has never had any credibility and will never have any credibility. It's a dog and pony show.
I think Diamond Head should give the induction speech. I mean really, Metallica has based their entire career on Diamond Head's music, who better?

Then they can all play together for that one night. Though I highly doubt he'd ever do it or they'd ever ask him.
When you really think about it David Grohl or Kid Rock seem to be the most stand out choices. They both have that "it factor". Lemmy I'm not sure you can give him a mic let him go wild. Maybe the guys from A7F as a dark horse or someone like Fred Durst.

has made it clear they don't give a flying fuck if they get nominated for the RNR Hall of Fame. They only get upset by fan reaction of not getting nominated. "I just keep saying we're too young to be in there", says (Geddy) Lee. "Yeah", says (Neil) Peart, "unlike all those other people, we're still working." "I think it really upsets our fans", allows (Alex) Lifeson. "It's a big issue for them." (quotes from Rolling Stone)
That being said, I do think Rush, Kiss, Sabbath, and Priest *should* be considered before Metallica.
And I'll bet Rush-fan Ulrich will put some kind of spin control on this... should be fun!
Fly Brian Tatler over to nominate them, just for grins. The man has admitted Metallica has made him very wealthy. Which is sad, given the strength of early Diamond Head...

They should turn in down in protest at the presentation.
That would be very rock and roll of them.
I mean...and someone else said it before...
Where the fuck is Black Sabbath? There would be no Metallica without Sabbath...or Judas Priest....or or...or....c'mon...seriously...this "hall" is a piece of shit. ______________________________________________________
First of all Black Sabbath or fuckin' Judas Priest didn't have give Metallica one-on-one lessons on how to fuckin' write music or play instruments. Metallica was fortunate enough to tour with Ozzy, that I will give Sabbath credit for. Sabbath DID not make Metallica; don't get that shit twisted. Met worked hard to get where there are now. It would be more accurate to say that Sabbath, Motorhead, etc. was inspiration to Metallica, not the ones that pulled all the strings and made Met the success they are today.
Don't get me wrong, I'm Sabbath fan too, and still listen to their music. It could be that the Hall of Fame committee are Metallica fans as well. Sabbath, Priest, they will get theirs; Metallica just beat them to it.
