ACE FREHLEY: New Album Title, Cover Artwork Revealed

Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has set "Anomaly" as the title of his new solo album, tentatively due this spring. Check out the cover artwork below. In an early 2008 interview with Billboard, Frehley stated about his forthcoming solo CD, "Basically, I'm trying to get back into the mindset I was in when I did my first solo record [1978's 'Ace Frehley']. That record seemed to have all the elements everybody liked — a real cool instrumental, a hit single, some real heavy rockers, a nice variety of different genres of music." Among his favorite new tracks are "A Little Below the Angels", hard-rocking "Pain in the Neck" and an instrumental called "Fractured Quantum", which is a follow-up to his previous instrumentals "Fractured Mirror" and "Fractured Too". Another favorite is "groove song" titled "Genghis Khan", which he likens in tone to LED ZEPPELIN's "Kashmir". Frehley told MyrtleBeachOnline.com that he's shooting for 12 tracks on his next album, his first in 18 years. Studio work has spanned several months, and some of the songs go back 12 years. Frehley recently spent time on the road fronting a band that featured second guitarist Derek Hawkins, drummer Scot Coogan (ex- BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION) and bassist Anthony Esposito (ex- LYNCH MOB).

I think the cover is cool and original.Ace has always been into like graphic design and stuff for years..its the title I'm a bit disappointed with.I thought he was going to go with "Pain In the Neck". I liked the idea of that,like he's a "pain in the neck" to Gene and Paul....because the fans love him more than them!But I guess "Anomaly" goes with the artwork.And really..who's more of an anomaly than the Space Ace??I just want to hear the songs already!!! Get it out...marketed properly it should sell well...he obviously still knows how to connect with his fans

The pic on the cover looks OK, but the font looks like something from the '80's. Kinda figures, since his website also looks that way. I think it looks cheap--like something someone (like Ace) did on his home computer.

but I'm a little confused---an album cover with Ace's clown-white painted face, black lip liner, and a pair if sunglasses with the famous lightning bolt "SS" from his former band's logo around his eyes----Yes I know he designed the original KISS logo with the lightning bolt SS and the make-up design is his, but I thought Ace was trying to distance himself from KISS and do his own thing. I hope Gene doesn't read into this like I just did. Hopefully the music will be great and nobody will give a damn about the cover.....except Gene lol!

Looks like crap, just like aces playing sounds like crap. Honestly as a guitarist for over 35 years I cant see what all the fuss about his playing is. I mean he is sloppy as hell and all over the place.

to me it's just a distortion of the original '78 solo lp cover and i'm sure he's allowed to use a copy of a painting of his own face. Plus let's not forget gene o.k.'d the dunkin donuts commercial. (bless his heart lol.) And Kiss S's or not, Ace has always had lightning bolts associated with him....guitar strap, costumes etc. I am looking at the title and feeling more than still connecting himself with kiss he is actually saying in a way, you may still think of me as that persona but that image is now distorted by tommy and kiss.....so he adds the shades that he now wears all the time and he becomes the "anomaly". Either way, I think this cd will not let us fans down. This band is young and tight....(i'll leave any refrence to women out of it.lol.) and ACE hardly ever disappoints solo wise for us fans, so i don't think it will. Actually i can already feel the excitement of my blood pumping as i rock the neighborhood with a shot full of "new" rock from the ACE man.

Guess you're a guitar god....have we heard anything you've done? And even if you're great.........what is your point. He's ACE and you're not. I've played guitar for 35 years too and i certainly don't go on the internet and talk shit about other guitarists. How lame.

Ace is one of the most influential guitarists ever....Most bands from the late 70's and up to our day, will say that they were influenced by his playing. His style is unique and one of a kind. A bit of edge and some blues mixed in, more of a feel and a vibe of his own, if I may. He doesn't take himself too seriously and that adds to his character or persona. His solos were created by him and no'one can take that away! He's given us many great solos and memories. The cover is eye catching and intruiging....GO ACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to hear the album!!!

As long as he gets back on tour to promote it, the CD could come in a cover as bad as, well, Death Magnetic, and I wouldn't care. His show in London last year was the best Kiss-related show since the Revenge tour, and reminded me what I loved about the band
As for his playing being all over the place, personally I think that's what puts him up with Page and Neil Young. Do you bellow, "Play it like you played it on the record!" at concerts? Do you dream of Joe Satriani inviting you to join G3? Good luck if you do, each to his own... but don't tell me it's rock 'n' roll

This cover kicks the shit out of Gene, Peter & Paul's.. This has a klassic KISS feel to it & it picks up from the 78 album PERFECTLY..
Which is probably the intention.. This cover helps the CD itself to connect more with the 78 album & not so much with the 80's stuff... I'd rather see a cover like this, which Ace probably designed than some perfect shit that the member didn't even have anything to do with (One For all??).. At least this shows ACE IS INVOLVED in the creative process.
This cover is the best KISS album cover since Psycho Circus easily.. & the best Ace cover since 78 easily..
anyone who doesnt like it probably isnt a true fan..

The good news is that it can't possibly be worse than that Peter Criss album that came out last year. If you haven't heard THAT then I suggest you check it out.
I loved KISS as a kid, and have supported various things through the years, but that was horrible. It doesn't make sense to me because I feel like, even with my small studio, that I could help Pete make a better album than that and I'm pretty much UNKNOWN!!!

Hey, the album could come packaged in a brown paper sack...I don't care, as long as the music holds up. And Ace's solo material has always been passable, even if it hasn't always been stellar.
Even so, Ace could record his own farts and dub some guitar licks over them, and it would still be better than 'A$$hole'.

missing the point of Space Ace, yes, he could be quite sloppy. He's a poor man's Jimmy Page, but he had some great riffs, melodic solos, and was fun. Its the same with the guys that trash Page or Slash cuz they don't "shred". boring. Ace definitely lost the edge after 70's KiSS, the band made him tighten up, he got lazy...on the other hand, the guys who say he's the most influential guitarist ever are going overboard as well. he was THAT influential because KiSS was a major band for 10-12yr olds in 76-78. That music & Ace got them into the guitar, it probably was more the smoking pickups then the playing....for me, Ace won me over in his drunken Halloween Tom Snyder interview, when he total trashes the whole Kiss mystique, totally pissing of those 2 air bags Gene & his kiss up Paul. great stuff.

frehley has more rights to the KISS design than 'jean' or 'pawl' scab kiss totally SUCKS, and i wish frehley could have used his makeup. again, lets all get together and let those two other ASSHOLES that we DO NOT want a new kiss cd if somebody else (i don't care who) will be wearing ace and peters' personas. I've been a huge fan since '77, and it ended in after they started getting imposters, fakes, and scabs to wear old members identities. Simmons can go fuckoff, he has ruined kiss, and this cd by ace will prove that they are pathetically using ACE AND peter. I will only buy the new kiss album if they put it out without makeup. i will not support this crap. yes, again, i will buy it... USED: not one penny will go to ripping off Ace and Peter, and no ambum sales will be upped, even by ONE. fuck fake kiss, I put up with kiss in the '80's and early '90's. but i would not have bought Crazy nights, revenge or lick it up if they had vinnie, bruce, carr, etc, in cat and spaceman outfits. Ace frehley rules! please get the album out soon before simmons steals your musical arrangements for that fake kiss cd next summer. ...that is the most god-awful album cover I have seen in a very long time. I do so love the "Ace has been into graphic design for years" comments because that album cover looks like the efforts of someone who's just learned about Photoshop and is using every trick in the book... "Hey, is that a Chrome filter? Wow, let's use that!" Not surprising, since his self-designed website looks like an even bigger piece of shit. As far as the music being able to "back it up", don't hold your breath, folks. This is Ace Frehley we're talking about... If anyone can fuck it up, he will. Motherfucker hans't split a good lick since the 1978 solo album. 31 years! Thank god for those paid appearances where he can charge fans for an autograph or else he'd probably be eating cat food.

Anyone know when its coming out? Remember Ace lovers, KISS didnt fire Ace. They tried like hell to get him to do the 2003 tour with aerosmith but he declined. whether over money or the fact that they had done a farwell tour or whatever. he didnt want to tour with KISS. Personaly, I belive he was hurt or pissed at some of the shit Gene said about him in his book. If Ace had signed on for that tour you can bet they would have left Peter at home and went on with Eric Singer. They didnt want to go out with 2 origanal members missing like in 1982.

actually looks very interesting. My first reaction was, "That's it?" but the more I looked at it, the more I think it looks like it represents some sort of bridge between Ace's past and present. The black lips are clearly from the past, but when you look under the glasses you see the eyes which are clear and sober. The now. At first glance it's kind of a scary Cirque du Soliel face!!! I am sure there are all kinds of subliminal images in the water reflections!
I'm not a guitar player, just a music lover and an appreciator of Ace's natural (if unschooled) ability! I think the fact that he created the cover art himself is freakin' awesome! Who even cares what it looks like (although it tends to grow on you). And "Anomaly" is a cool title. Webster's defines anomaly as SOMETHING THAT DIFFERS FROM STANDARD OR NORMAL. Hell, the dude IS an anomaly! Maybe he should have titled it "Enigma"... but anomaly sounds cooler.
First day buyer here, too. Rock on Ace!!!!
