wtf at Rob Flynn. If you're going to list a rap album, WHY would you pick Lil Wayne? He's easily one of the least talented rappers out there. Then on top of that, he thought Meshuggah's last album was called Bleed...not all albums are named after their singles dude!

Good to see so many obZen and Cynic albums listed though! In Rainbows got a nod too, definitely one of my favorite releases of 08 (but Meshuggah takes the number one spot pretty easily for me).

I was thinking the same thing. I actually like Trivium, but c'mon...

Glad to see Meshuggah and Amon Amarth get a few nods. Those albums were both killer...along with Into Eternity. All in my Top 10 list. Opeth though...one of my favorite bands...fell a bit flat with me on "Watershed."

Although not metal...the latest Portishead was solid as well.

COMMENT | I hate to say it, but not a great year for metal releases.

Decent, but not excelent.

Into Eternity (as usual) and Testament were very solid.
Metallica took a step in the right direction.
All That Remains completely lost me on this one...not too sure what these guys were thinking.
Trivium, well, ...these guys are going downhill fast. The music is becoming too generic and predictable (somewhat like Arch Enemy), and holy fuck are those vocals bad. Shogun would be a decent album with different vocals.

What the fuck. sounds like he was either really high or one of his record executives did the list for him..

fuck metallica. people who herald "death magnetic" as one of the best of 2008 are probably the same people who equate shifting units with being "good".

and to the poster who said "chinese democracy" is the only album in 2008 that mattered and that nothing was more "groundbreaking"- pretty funny statement considering most of the songs on "democracy" were written between 5 and 15 years ago and many of them start with very generic, dated sounding electronic intros that sound like NIN circa 1995.

Aside from the obvious picks such as Gojira, Opeth, Meshuggah etc there were a few I was very glad to see on the lists...

First, the one guy who had Slania in his top spot. Very glad to see this. He is also spot on about Moonsorrow. Then there's Scar Symmetry... surprised to see so little of it, it's a great album. Winds of Plague, I think there was only one listed, props to whoever that was. I think there was only one mention of Kalmah also... eve if it is their weakest album yet, that really doesn't say much, it's still awsome.

I didn't really expect to see it anywhere, but no mention of Iconoclast is still disapointing.

Then listen to Cavalera Conspiracy !!!!
It is done better. Soulfly was good after some of the same ol - same ol on their previous releases - it was good.

But I heard Cavalera Conspiracy first and it is simply better.

Have to compare the 2 since MAX is imprinted all over both - it simply has to be done. He leaves such a strong fingerprint.
