AC/DC Fans Rally In Bid To Bring Band To Peoria; Video Available - Jan. 11, 2009
Stephanie Gomes of the Journal Star reports that more than a hundred Peoria, Illinois residents rallied Saturday (January 10) afternoon outside the Civic Center theater to get AC/DC to play in their hometown.

Peoria radio station WIXO-FM organized the rally in hopes of catching the attention of the band, which has not performed in Peoria since 1983.

Matt Bahan, host of The X's morning show, came up with the idea after the release of AC/DC's new album, "Black Ice".

"We're going to prove to AC/DC that we're out of our minds," said Bahan, who dressed as band member Angus Young. "We want them here, and I think it's due time that they come back."

There was a question whether AC/DC was welcome in Peoria after the band shot off cannons during its last performance at Carver Arena. Bahan said he investigated the situation and discovered the alleged ban was an urban legend.

AC/DC hits blared Saturday as fans lined up to sign a petition at the start of the rally. A video of the event, along with the petition, will be sent Monday to AC/DC. More than 1,000 signatures were collected on The X's web site before the event.

I drove five hours to see that show. It was the Flick of the Switch tour, with Fastway opening. This tour could not possibly compare.

I suppose

...but one thing's for sure - Peoria, IL residents are nuts about the bands they support. It's a pleasure for any mainstream band (and local!) to perform for them - a very appreciative audience that will shake the foundations screaming for an act they get behind

COMMENT | I work there & i am a Death metal guitarist from a band from there

yeah they wanted like 10,000 people but yeah... peoria is not that supportive a i mean if AC/DC came yeah but as a actual metal scene there are only like a handful of actual metal bands that even can play decent metal other than that its a bunch of numetal bullshit and crappy metalcore...personally i would love to see AC/DC there i almost think they might even already have booked em there just not saying yet...but well see.

If AC/DC won't come to Bloomington-Normal, which is just 30 minutes away, why would they go to a smaller market like Peoria? 105.7 should stick to what they know best, playing shitty music like Nirvana and Nickleback on the same 8 song rotation all day.

Compared to Chicago, Peoria is still in 1983.

is much larger than Bloomington-Normal. If Mudvayne sells out every year in their hometown of Peoria, Ac/DC will too. Saw Aerosmith there 3 years ago when they didn't come to chicago and peoria handled it just fine.

#1 - Peoria is Larger than the whole bloomington normal area..
#2 - while not official a co worker of mine said that on satilite radio that Peoria & Champaign were on the docket "supposedly"
and we both work there at the PCC...there are some rumblings but nothing official...
#3 - Mudvayne is shit..and there mostly from Pekin and East peoria

The only "decent" bands to come out of peoria that are any where near recognized in the metal scene is Lividity and Waco Jesus both of which arent so "decent" in theme.. ohh and maybe Taxi war dance but thats pushin it and the only band that i know of that is halfway decent that has played with anybody decent is a band called Altered Existence who had played with Nile back in 1997..so a short history lesson for the peoria metal scene for ya..not that anyone cares but yeah

COMMENT | This is silly

These people claim to be such big fans, yet they won't make the 2 hour drive up to Chicago to see AC/DC? And St. Louis is maybe 3 or so hours to the south.

I'm from chicago and I make the 2 hour trip up to Milwaukee sometimes if a good band is rolling through. And I'd go down to Peoria as well without hesitation.

If you don't live in a major city, you should accept the fact that you'll have to travel a little bit to see a good show.
