POISON And DEF LEPPARD To Team Up For Summer Tour - Jan. 13, 2009
POISON frontman Bret Michaels has confirmed that his band is in talks to tour with DEF LEPPARD later in the year. Speaking to CNN about his upcoming activities, Michaels said, "I've got a huge announcement, which actually just happened this morning. DEF LEPPARD and POISON are gonna go out on the road this summer. And the reason that's exciting for me [is] I know it will be the rock tour this summer. POISON and DEF LEPPARD, with all those big hits, being out there, we put out a great show, we've got a huge fanbase, but the one thing the fans get, we always keep the ticket prices down and deliver an absolutely awesome, kick-ass rock show. And I look forward to it, because I'm still a fan of music — I'm very passionate about the music I make — and when you can be out on the road with people you like — I've been able to go out with AEROSMITH, KISS, SKYNYRD — and to be out with DEF LEPPARD and POISON this summer, I think that it's gonna be the tour of the summer."

The announcement of a possible tour featuring POISON and DEF LEPPARD will undoubtely come as a surprise to most fans of the two heavyweight rock acts, both of whom have continued to do good business on the road despite the fact their most recent studio albums have failed to light up the charts.

Last summer, POISON was involved in a war of words with DEF LEPPARD singer Joe Elliott over Elliott's comments at a June 2008 press conference at the Sweden Rock Festival, in which Joe said bands like POISON and MÖTLEY CRÜE had "no substance in their music" and therefore relied more on their image in the '80s. Michaels held his own press conference the next day and responded to Elliott's comments, saying, "We have not sold out, and continuously, for 20 years every arena because we care about just our appearance. The music comes first." He then added, "(DEF LEPPARD) shouldn't be knocking anyone about their music since they just did a show called 'Dancing With The Stars' in the U.S. and they got crucified because they fucking lip-synched the entire show, so before they bust anyone's balls, I've never lip-synched a fucking thing in my life — ever! It's the pot calling the kettle black."

In a July 18, 2008 message posted at DEF LEPPARD's official web site, Elliott explained his original remarks by saying, "I was simply making the following simple point when I said a lot of those Hollywood bands weren't 'real' (or whatever I said)... I was born Joseph Elliott, Sav was born Richard Savage, Rick was born Richard Allen, Phil was born Philip Collen, Viv was born Vivian Campbell, and oh, Steve was born Stephen Clark. I don't think anyone in POISON uses their real name, do they? And I could name hundreds of others who don't, but POISON came to mind because I was asked about them! It's nothing personal, it was just an answer to a question."

Video footage of Elliott's original comment and Bret's response can be viewed below.

Poison puts on an awesome show...I'll go for them.

Def Leppard on the other hand would be worth seeing IF they played only their hits - Which would be up until Hysteria - And nothing after.

Joe Elliot is a douche, regardless.

they should call this tour the

'Shit talking in the sheds".

Def Leppard still plays a ton from High & Dry live, regardless of releasing country singles in an attempt to follow in Bon Jovi's footsteps. I gotta say I cant stand the thought of seeing Poison AGAIN, but as metal as I am, I'm a big MO for Def Lep.

This better be a joke. What the hell are Leppard thinking, just as they get their respect back they go on the road with Poison! Poison are a crock of shit.

Dont believe this, Elliot has more cop-on and their meant to be heading out with Cheap Trick.

I like both bands. If this tour would have happened 20 years ago, the Madison Square Garden or Colisseum would have sold out over 10 nights in a row, these boys are lucky to play 1 show at half that capacity nowadays.

Should be a great show! Same management company if I am correct so it makes sense.

Both bands put on a good show and treat the fans and their crew great!

Should be a good tour combo.

You are so wrong and have no clue what you are talking about.

Def Leppards last tour did VERY well and if you noticed or knew anything they have been touring ever summer non stop and selling tons of tickets and merch which most bands today would kill to have those numbers.

The only reason we know about Poison today was due to the golden road first laid by KISS, then Van Halen, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue and the like, not that Poison had any originality or meaningful songwriting talent.

It was Poison who made Nirvana into the success they became...

why the diss? Last time I saw Def Lep they played some pavillon on the lakefront in Chicago in 2005. There were 5000 people there tops! Everytime Def Lep or Poison tour its usually with 3 other bands, like last year Def Lep toured with REO and Styx. What I am saying is, that if this toured would have happened 20 years ago when Hysteria was HOT and Talk Dirty was released, this would be a DREAM tour. Who the fuck said anything about merch and all that. So fuck off you loser.

...naysayers aside, this is a good show for fans of the 80s, but credibility for Joe just went out the window (again), if only because his whole point about hating all his peers from back in the day, and constantly reminding everyone of that, including with that feud last year, is now moot...

for the poison guys, it's more of the same (not necessarily a bad thing)... tour with guys who are similar to you... and if you think for a moment that def lep does not fit that bill, just look back at some of the older videos from pyromania and beyond...

here's to hoping that there are no other bands on this tour and we get decent-sized setlists from both, and not just an hour and 15 minutes a piece...

Hmmm....well I guess when they have come through northern cali and played 2 venues within 45 miles of each other and sold them out say's they cannot sell tickets or put on a great show.

Also....touring is in such a sad state most current bands even the mighty Metallica have 2 acts plus them on the bill. Not that I am comparing Metallica to Def Leppard...I am just pointing out the current state of the touring market for the last 5 years.

Def Leppard is still relevant to a degree and look at some of the dark edgy material that can be found on the last record. (not that god awful country track)

My guess is Poision will be the first co headliner and Leppard will close.

I wish Leppard would get out of the pocket and record in a more raw format and bring in an outside producer like a Rubin or someone in that vain.

They still show hints of that raw energy that made albums like Pyromania and High n Dry so great.

Cruise Control - song about a suicide bomber by Vivian

I close my eyes, I bend in prayer
I train my mind to just not care
And to my god I give my soul
I train my mind to cruise control

Daylight shines upon the hour of my faith
I step into the sun
I shield my eyes from the glory of the morning
And blow it all to kingdom come

I hear my god, he calls my name
I must atone all mankind's shame
And for my god I ring the bell
I will condemn the infidel

Daylight shines upon the hour of my soul
I step into the sun
I shield my eyes from the glory of the morning
And blow it all to kingdom come

For when I was a boy you came to me
I made up my mind
Surrender all time and space to him
And blow the world to kingdom come

Daylight shines upon the hour of my faith
I step into the sun
I shield my eyes from the glory of the morning
And blow it all to kingdom come

And blow it all to kingdom come

I like both bands even though both are from yesteryear.

Old bands make more money touring and selling merchandise than new CD sales.

I have seen Lep 11 times .... Poison.... never

Hopefully I won't forget the so-called 2009 tour if it really happens....

Rock on ......
