AC/DC Earns $82 Million, METALLICA Makes $56.4 Million From Ticket, Album Sales

AC/DC is the only hard rock band to make the Los Angeles Times' 2008 "Ultimate Top 10," the newspaper's annual survey combining sales of concert tickets, albums and digital downloads to measure which acts were most popular with the broadest swath of music lovers. METALLICA came in at No. 14, an impressive feat considering that the band's latest album, "Death Magnetic", and corresponding U.S. tour didn't arrive until this past fall. Regarding AC/DC's combined income of $82 million, the Los Angeles Times writes, "The new 'Black Ice' album took the veteran Australian hard rock band back to the top of the charts and also made its concert tour one of the year's hot tickets. The band's Ultimate Top 10 tally was almost evenly divided, with $37.5 million coming at the concert box office and $44.5 million from album sales. Like KID ROCK, AC/DC doesn't do digital tracks. ticket price was about $60. ACDC was about $90. The Eagles were over $100 as were the Police....so to be fair, at least they aren't overcharging their fans. ANOTHER reason I appreciate them....

When were the album releases of Black Ice and Death Magnetic? Thats right, late in the autumn, and their tours just started. 28!!? gigs in 2008 with AC/DC. That will be a hell of a 2009 with 100 more gigs or something, same with Metallica i reckon.

LOL, I don't know who Michael Buble is either, but at least he got beat by The Boss, and Neil Diamond. Madonna is only #1 because her tickets are no less than $90.

Michael Buble is kinda like a Sinatra singer to the guys above asking who he is. He's got a good voice and is a decent talent. Obviously not metal or rock by any stretch, but he's pretty good I think for the style he is.

AC/DC is a phenomenon but yet it's logical. It's tried and true, but at the same time, it never seems to get old. I love how they stick to their guns. FUCK PRO TOOLS!!! Nothing but a stupid EDITING machine for people who CAN't FUCKING PLAY!!! My attitude is: If you can't play it, you don't deserve to record it. I'm not giving my money to bands who didnt' actually PLAY on their records. AC/DC are true musicians. Angus young is the only player I know these days who plugs his guitar into an amp and plays. No pedalboard, no gay-ass preamp or anything. Just true, honest music with feel.

I'm not really surpised here. It's common knowledge that Celine Dion, Madonna and the Eagles all rip off their fans by charging ridiculous ticket prices.
I know the Eagles want $260 a ticket before service fees for their upcoming tour.
I think Metallica was around $70 a ticket, which certainly isn't bad in comparison, but it's still double what we were paying only 10 years ago...
