METALLICA: New KIRK HAMMETT and JAMES HETFIELD ESP Signature Series Models Unveiled At NAMM - Jan. 19, 2009
The legendary guitarists of METALLICA, Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield, have worked with ESP Guitars to create their newest additions to the ESP and LTD Signature Series. The ESP KH-2 Ouija and LTD KH-Ouija are the latest models from Hammett, while the new James Hetfield model is the ESP Iron Cross.

"As most METALLICA fans know, the original Ouija model was a custom created for Kirk, and only a handful were made," says Matt Masciandaro, ESP President. "Not only are we bringing back the Ouija for the first time in more than a decade, but we're offering it in a white finish for the first time ever. For the Iron Cross, we're offering the guitar that James has been using for much of METALLICA's 'Death Magnetic' world tour, and will only be making this model during 2009.”

Available in limited quantities during 2009 only, the new Ouija model remains true to the original, with a neck-thru-body 25.5" scale design, alder body, maple neck, 24XJ frets, Gotoh tuners, an original Floyd Rose bridge, EMG 81 (B) / 60 (N) active pickups, and is available in both black and white finishes. Upgrades to the original model include mirror inlays and an ebony fingerboard.

The LTD KH-Ouija offers similar features to the ESP version, substituting a 1000-Series Floyd Rose bridge, ESP tuners, and a rosewood fingerboard (and is only available in black).

Available in limited quantities during 2009 only, the ESP James Hetfield Signature Iron Cross is currently featured on METALLICA's "Death Magnetic" world tour. Painstaking effort has gone into recreating every nuance of James' original guitar, while adding some new appointments to make it a truly unique signature ESP. Features include a set-neck, 24.75" scale, mahogany body with maple cap, mahogany neck, 22 XJ EVO "Gold" Ni- Free alloy frets, distressed gold hardware that includes Sperzel locking tuners, Schaller straplocks, Tonepros Locking bridge and tailpiece, and special EMG 81 (B) / 60 (N) active pickups with distressed gold covers. The guitar's finish is a highly distressed black with a gold racing stripe and a metal iron cross on the body top.

to the guy who said it's the same shit. It is not you moron. The guitar that james had with the cross in it was a Gibson that he modified himself.

Yes Kirk's guitar is old but this one for customers is built to the original specs and its also in white now.

COMMENT | James should go back to playing a GIBSON Explorer

his tone on Kill Em All through Master of Puppets was all Vs and Explorers......this fucking Les Paul looking guitar looks goofy on James.

Fake 'used' guitars are lame, whatever the fact it's a signature from James. Buy a real new one and scratch it as you please but avoid buying into this... it's senseless...

Sweet guitars!
Everyone check out this destroying band: www.myspace.com/mortalityaus. They broke up about 11, 12 yrs ago and there record label died soon after so I don't think you can even buy the album anymore. Listen to D.FORM.
I swear to god it will destroy your skull, reap your soul and fart blood in your face! It's one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard and their from Australia which makes it even more cool. I vow all true metal lovers will love it. I'm not trying to pull some publicity for the band or nothing and I'm definately not in the band (I was 7 when they broke up lol). I just want to show everyone Australia's greatest metal band! Kills Mortal Sin and Lord by millions!

I love Metallica, but the concept of paying for a Gibson knockoff is hilarious to me. James plays a modified Gibson Les Paul. How does ESP even get away with making this?

You just discovered Mortality?
Sadly, they have split, and about 7 years ago IIRC. Structure is a great album (I have it) and I knew the boys. They have done a reunion show a year ago roughly and there is always talk of more, lets hope so.

James wanted Gibson to make the Iron Cross LP but they were too busy making retarded looking guitars for Zakk Wylde to bother with it.

Are you retarded? His original Ouija guitar dates back to the Black album.

Actually, I take that back. You're right, he wouldn't have played it because ESP wasn't selling guitars in 1983.

At last kirk tried something fresh! looks great. James on the other hand has some bad taste in guitars. But James' isn't new. He's had a custom like that for years. I think he actually plays one in the Frantic vid.

Amen, bro.

Gee whiz, look at me, I'm playing a geetar that looks JUST like James Hetfield's from Metallica! Distress marks an' all.

For weakminded fanbois only.

The distress look on the Iron Cross is ridiculous. Nothing like purchasing a new guitar with chunks of the fretboard missing. And Kirk's guitar, c'mon Ouija board! That's mystical. Did you forget to use that when you released St. Anger?

ESP guitars are awesome, I own an Eclipse II, love it.....but these just look retarded.
Why would I want to buy an already ``beat up`` guitar.
Plus, KH sucks.....I mean he didn`t write any solos for yeras...none on St.Anger....so when he had to come up with stuff for DethMag....well, I think he forgot how to do it, because they all suck....like a bunch of jibberish......the only solos that sound good are James`, maybe he should play lead for now on. Or kirk should take some lessons from Mustaine.....Ha!
