IRON MAIDEN: 'Flight 666' Teaser Available - Jan. 21, 2009
A one-minute teaser for IRON MAIDEN's forthcoming feature-length documentary can be viewed below. Entitled "Iron Maiden: Flight 666', the movie follows the bandmembers on the first leg of their "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" in February and March of 2008 as they experienced the most ambitious and adventurous tour in rock history, and will be released in April 2009 in association with EMI Records and Universal in the USA.

The MAIDEN tour plan was something that had never been attempted before on such a grand scale. Circumnavigating the globe, the band flew in a specially customized Boeing 757 airliner with their crew and 12 tons of music and stage equipment on board, playing 23 sold-out stadium and arena shows in 13 countries in just 45 days, travelling 70,000 km and performing to almost half a million fans.

The band was accompanied everywhere by award-winning documentary makers Banger Productions from Toronto in Canada, who have received international critical acclaim for their previous movies "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" and recently "Global Metal". Producer/presenter Sam Dunn and his team bring an intimate, behind-the-scenes view of this remarkable journey, with a close look at the logistics involved and following Team Maiden in the cockpit, on the plane and on and offstage, getting to the heart of this global adventure of a band that has very rarely even let cameras backstage before.

Shot in high definition and with superb 5.1 surround sound, mixed by the band's producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, "Flight 666" brings to the screen all the drama, excitement and hysteria that followed the band around the world every time Ed Force One (the band's plane) touched down in a new country. The film documents the intensity of the punishing show schedules, the struggle with the time zones, the pressures of ensuring that every performance matched the energy of the many thousands of ecstatic and expectant fans from many cultural backgrounds, unusual angles from the spectacular shows... and, of course, the fun had on the way!

A special international "Iron Maiden Day" is being planned for April 21 with simultaneous showings of "Iron Maiden: Flight 666" in selected digital cinemas around the world.

Brave New World sounded very good, but Dance of Death and A Matter of Life and Death had some serious sound issues in my opinion.

I don't think Kevin Shirley is the problem, though.

I would tend to blame that on Steve Harris. I mean, he's got self-admitted hearing damage. Not exactly the best quality when PRODUCING ALBUMS! No wonder the sound on the last few albums is muffled.

He meddles way too much in things that he's not good at (video editing, production, etc.)

these guys must be so rich, it would be staggering to know what their individual net worths are.

Such massive, consistent, prolonged global success must translate into paydays at or near the billions !!!

I am glad for them !

My only hope is that they put out another album of the caliber of Powerslave before they stop

A band that has stood the test of time. That last cd they put out was great. Its good to see a classic metal band that doesnt try to sound modern. They know who they are. Great musicians.

Do you know of any band prior to Maiden that made '666' so prominent in a song as they did with "Number of the Beast"?

Yes, it's cliche and juvenile, but it's THEIR cliche.

And frankly, I'm glad they're still juvenile. I have no intention of outgrowing metal and becoming a boring old man. Metal still energizes me, makes me feel like a teenager and gives me a boost when I'm working out or running.

What's wrong with that?

This looks amazing. It looks very high quality. Right on par with their last two concert videos, Rock in Rio and Death on the Road, both which were very good.

I'm a 35 year old woman who still gets the same high from metal that I used to get some 20 years ago. I'd be as good as dead if I lost that.

i'm starting to wonder if this guy likes anything other than rush (not that liking rush is a bad thing. i love 2112) , but any metal fan would have realized that the whole "666" thing in metal is pretty much because of iron maiden. maybe it's overdone now, but if anyone has the right to keep using it, it's them.

Child like mind of their fans?! Oh Fugazi, you are one piece of work.

I implore you to please tell me all the super mature metal bands that you listen to that make you feel all grown up. I don't see how maiden is more juvenille then the next band.

I know that they don't all dress in black and "act tough" like every other metal band out there, but that is what makes them great. They are not a pretentious band. The fact that they really enjoy playing their music and are not afraid to show it is one reason that they have legions of fans who love them.

Do you even listen to metal????

I think Maiden have every intention of getting a studio album out either towards the end of the year, or next year.

The continuation of the "Somewhere Back In Time" world tour in 2009 might mean a slight delay (2010).

They've been on a 3-year recording schedule since Bruce got back - 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009-2010, etc. - I wouldn't mind waiting 'til early next year if it means they put the necessary effort in and don't rush.

couldn't agree with you more, my friend. MAIDEN faced down the religious wackos back then, and they rub their faces in it today. They are far from satanists, as everyone with a brain knows, but love to rub "blasphemous" imagery in the faces of those without brains. (Pagan) God love 'em!
The greatest rock/metal band of all time, in my opinion.

Maiden outclasses AC/DC, Metallica and even The Beatles because they're still doing their stuff with class and outmost respect for their fans; something the other bands stopped doing early on in their stardom process...

Bottom line is...NO BAND ON EARTH runs their asses off and puts on a more energetic live show than Maiden!!! I'm telling ya, it's a goddamn EXPERIENCE! Those who know, know...I wonder how many screenings this will have and if it will play fairly wide, as I am back in the sticks and would probably have to travel...but I WOULD if it's within reason...brings chills down my spine!!!

"His influence on the songwriting is horrible"
The Legacy is one of the greatest Iron Maiden songs EVER. I believe he may have co wrote Montsegur and dance of death aswell, but im not sure.
I think the production on the (brilliant) modern maiden albums is good, but they sound so much better live. The new songs on Rock In Rio and Death on the road sound much better than the studio albums, I really want a dvd from the matter of life and death tour!

..Why are there 3 guitarists??? Why is Janick still in the band? .......ok I will explain this to you boys and girls nice and simple.

After Bruce left Maiden and wanted to come back, it was only with the agreement that Adrian would come back.......and with this Adrian indicated he would only come back if Janick stayed , so viola we have now 3 guitarists!!

we all know H and Davey are the backbone guitarists for Maiden but Janick does contribute to the writing and playing.....so long he's not butchering Adrian's solos and plays other parts isfine with me......I agree above that the Legacy was a great song which Jan contributed
