Heavy Metal Meets Ballet In Australia - Jan. 22, 2009
Suzanna Clarke of News.com.au reports: Heavy metal music and classical ballet may seem like an unlikely pairing. But according to choreographer Bridie Mayfield, they are a perfect match.

"I've been a heavy metal fan for a long time. I've always danced to metal," she says.

This week Mayfield's new Brisbane, Australia-based company, Brutal Ballet, performs Dethballet at Twelfth Night Theatre, which combines the two.

"When I tell people who like ballet (about the work) they kind of look at me in a funny way," she says. "But metal fans seem to love it. I think they understand the connection with classical music."

this is not a new thing. Entombed did this 6 years ago. Sold out every single show... It was a weird feeling seeing ballet dancers hop around while Entombed was in the pit... Cool but weird...

Yeah, Ballet Deviare performed a few times with Arsis.
I saw 'em in New York, 'opening' for Opeth. The song they performed to was Deliverance. Very, very cool.
