TOOL Frontman Starting Organic Market - Jan. 22, 2009
The Pulse of Radio reports that TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan plans on opening an organic market in Cornville, Arizona, that will include a commercial kitchen and a tasting room for the wines he produces in nearby Sedona. According to Spinner.com, Keenan is currently adding the new sections to an already existing market, explaining, "I've been working with a few chefs around the Southwest, learning how to make spaghettis and pastas and gnocchis and various soup stocks. We're going to be packaging our own stuff right there and serving it fresh with the tastings."

Keenan already owns a small store in Jerome, Arizona, that he has turned into a retail outlet based around his band PUSCIFER. He told The Pulse of Radio what fans can expect when they stop by the store. "It's basically our little retail outlet," he said. "Downloading has crushed the idea of making CDs on a larger scale, so we're gonna fund our recording and fun projects by attempting to sell you T-shirts and dog toys and dildos and things. We have a tool for every job."

Keenan and his winemaking partner, Eric Glomski, will hit Whole Foods outlets in Northern California next month for bottle-signing events. The pair will sign bottles from both Keenan's Caduceus Cellars and Glomski's Page Spring Cellars. Both men have their own cellars and vineyards in the Sedona region, and are also partners in Arizona Stronghold Vineyards.

Meanwhile, PUSCIFER will make its live debut with three sold-out shows in Las Vegas on February 13, 14, and 15.

How do you figure?

What's he supposed to do with his time, seeing as how Tool only reforms and records ever five or six years?

I call it a productive use of his time and resources. I enjoy wine and good food as much as the next person, but, working full-time, I can't devote as much time to either as I'd like.

Peace Love and Grindcore without the ego's.

well atleast hes not whining as much about downloading and instead is coming up with solutions to combat a recession that hit the music community long before it hit everyone else. god knows him and many others fought and cried about illegal downloading for far too long. its his way of staying competitive in a slumping economy cant say i blame him. ps pusifer is garbage stick with the tool and organic wine.

I want a new album, so Tool will tour again!!!!

Open your little hippy grocery store when your too old to do your music".

^ That's a very selfish thing to say. That's a big problem with society these days we want more more more to satisfy our selfish ego's.Mctrendkill what else do you want a new Pantera album to go with your ego???? Let the man make his pastas and his wine,he doesn't want to make your new album, let him do his album when he's to old for his Hippy grocery store (wink wink) I'm just giving you a hard time.Keep ego's out of Metal

Good for him in pursuing other interests. I haven't seen it posted here yet, but any My Dying Bride fans, know that they set the release date of March 23 for their new album For Lies I Sire.

So as it turns out the Puscifer show dates in February are with (no joke) Bet Midler and Cher!

Starting an Organic Market doesn't make you a "sellout", but doing a show with Cher and Bet Midler might make you gay.

I'm sure he is....

'Downloading has crushed the idea of making CDs on a larger scale,'

The only reason downloading would be hurting him is because he hasn't put out anything worth buying in years. But I call bullshit. The album sales of their last effort were enormous, and Tool tickets are priced time and a half again what they should be. How is it that many other bands can absolutely thrive in these conditions, yet the mighty Tool struggles to make a buck? I guess we should all start taking their name to hold a more literal meaning.

What's wrong with an artist doing what they want to do? At least he is doing something productive with his time and worthwhile for his community. If that's what he wants to do for the rest of his life then yeah- okay it sucks a bit because we are all huge TOOL fans but at least we know that they have never sold out or anything. I'd rather hear that Maynard and the rest are off doing things like this instead of coming out with some fuckin Lil' Wayne shit. Plus, the more time they all have off together the better it is for the recording process- and being that no money is being made off of CD's anymore and the downloading how do you expect them to make good money?

I didn't like Tool's last album, but from what I know, Maynard and Billy are working on new APC material. So in the meanwhile, I'm totally down for an organic food market and wine. And Puscifier, while not metal or rock, is a pretty fucking groovy album.

A new Tool album would be kick ass, just hope that these Hobbies don't take too much away from what he does best.
