ACE FREHLEY: 'Fractured Mirror' Jam Footage Posted Online
- Jan. 23, 2009
|
|
Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has posted video footage (see below) of the "Fractured Mirror" jam he took part in with the guitarist from his solo band, Derrek Hawkins, over the holidays. Ace says, "During one of the sessions, we took a break, I gave my studio assistant my camera and jammed out this tune from my '78 solo record. The picture's a bit dark, but that's the vibe I like during recording." Ace Frehley has set "Anomaly" as the title of his new solo album, tentatively due this spring. Check out the cover artwork below. In an early 2008 interview with Billboard, Frehley stated about his forthcoming solo CD, "Basically, I'm trying to get back into the mindset I was in when I did my first solo record [1978's 'Ace Frehley']. That record seemed to have all the elements everybody liked — a real cool instrumental, a hit single, some real heavy rockers, a nice variety of different genres of music." Among his favorite new tracks are "A Little Below the Angels", hard-rocking "Pain in the Neck" and an instrumental called "Fractured Quantum", which is a follow-up to his previous instrumentals "Fractured Mirror" and "Fractured Too". Another favorite is "groove song" titled "Genghis Khan", which he likens in tone to LED ZEPPELIN's "Kashmir". Frehley told MyrtleBeachOnline.com that he's shooting for 12 tracks on his next album, his first in 18 years. Studio work has spanned several months, and some of the songs go back 12 years. Frehley recently spent time on the road fronting a band that featured second guitarist Derrek Hawkins, drummer Scot Coogan (ex- BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION) and bassist Anthony Esposito (ex- LYNCH MOB).

He said it would be out at the end of the year on "That metal show". Now it's spring. I guess he can do what he wants but man quit saying dates then don't do it.
I bet is will be stellar.

Wow, that's like a trainwreck caught on video. No fault to the rhythm guy, though -- he doesn't mess up at all.

speed aint my thing, so that isn't a criteria for me at all...though I love Steve Vai's "attitude song" for an instrumental...I need to give it some thought.

Freeway Jam - Jeff Beck Attitude Song - Vai Jizz da Pitt- Slash(snakepit) Hocus Pocus - Focus...maybe the best instumental going, killer tune which Gary Hoey(sp?) covered, but not all guitar, and some yodelling to boot. Into the Arena- Michael Sheinker Group Tora/Tora - EVH Pali Gap - Jimi...and I always love the Star Spangled Banner.......Joe Perry has a killer one on his first solo album, Break Song, more boogie than the moody Movie, which is cool. Don't like the guitar sound/production on "the Movie" though, it would sound better rerecorded with vintage guitar sound.....Beck's Bolero is great, you know, those old Surf guitar instuments are pretty cool too, not my top 10, but got the ball rolling....Moby Dick without the drum solo, can listen to the guitar all day.

I'm a huge Kiss fan but you must mention Rush if you are mentioning an instrumental. They are one of the best bands at instrumentals. ACE RULES!

Ace Frehley is one of the main reasons that KISS is still touring today. If it wasn't for the reunion tour of the late 90's KISS would have rode off into the sunset. And without Ace that would have never been possible. And as far as Tommy Thayers concerned he couldn't make it in his own band so he had to be a Tribute Ace in KISS!! Can't wait for the new solo disc!

Are you fucking kidding me? You clowns couldn't carry Ace's guitar case. He's playing it (probably from memory) after not having played it in a really long time...I love all the haters that try to belittle Ace's ability as a guitarist.Like Slash-Ace is self-taught and he fucking rules! So hes not spot on-so fuckin' what-its a jam for fuck sakes-its still better than most could do...and hes probably not even trying too hard...Thayer sucks/Ace is the man and always will be!! ANOMALY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a simple cam recording the guys playing probably out of two small amps or directly into an input... so this isn't a live album quality recording, give him a break!...I heard him play it at a show and it was phenomenal, through loud amps!! The song is a classic and Ace has his place in history and Kisstory. No'one can take that away! Btw, his show is all Rock and Roll, raw and classic, loud guitars, loud band! Worth seeing them!

why people regard Ace as such a great guitar player. I have played for over 30 years and have always thought his playing to be sloppy and all over the place. On this clip he sounds horrible and waaaay out of sync. I like some of his songs with KISS but I like them despite his sloppy playing.

Ace was GREAT> Great melody & rhythm in his solo's both on the album and live (real live like KISSOLOGY, not Alive or Alive ll). He wrote some of KISS' greatest song. Undisputed. He is a fraction of the player/writer that he was. Still seems like a pretty genuine guy. That being said, posters who say he's that great now??? I got news for you... There's no such thing as Santa either.

I've been telling people about that jam pain society song for months now. Killer lead. Heavy song. Classic ACE with some new sounds thrown in. It would be great if his cd sounded like that. I'm sure it will be great even if it doesn't. Let the countdown begin.

i am a longtime kiss fan as well being 37 and a fan since age 5 a, not a single day one has passed without the music of kiss that i can recall, this clip here is what it is im just glad he finally released it after a few months of mentioning it. as a real hard core kiss fan ive had my own beliefs and disbeliefs about different lineup changes and music directions but will say there nothing to what they are today, i am totally against the current lineup with kiss in makeup , nothing against the 2 guys replacing ace and peter but lets face it it might be ok to play as a foursome but the way and direction there heading is like a cover band , i dont care what any body says a guitarist will have good days and bad ones i hope this clip shows that, its all about how much he put into it , im assuming a quick rip .but still admire aces playing, he still is my fav guiarist of all times ,
