FOZZY Singer To Fight Actor MICKEY ROURKE At 'Wrestlemania 25'?
- Jan. 28, 2009
|
|
Actor Mickey Rourke, who plays a professional wrestler in acclaimed film "The Wrestler", has reportedly said he is ready to rumble for real with Chris Jericho, a World Wrestling Entertainment ( WWE) superstar and lead singer of the heavy metal band FOZZY, at wrestling event Wrestlemania 25 on April 5. Rourke made the announcement Sunday night on the red carpet before the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles. He then claimed he was going to toss Jericho "around the ring like tossed salad." Meanwhile, Jericho, who made an apppearance with Rourke on CNN's "Larry King Live", said the actor was out of line and that he was offended by Rourke's comments. He said Rourke made "a mistake." Watch the exchange between Jericho and Rourke on "Larry King Live" below.

...Rourke will win. Celebrities NEVER lose when they are put into a WWE ring. And who better to lose than the best whiner in wrestling, but Chris Jericho?
It is being speculated, however, that Rourke is seriously diminishing his chances of an Oscar nod by announcing he's going to wrestle. The Acadamy doesn't exactly look fondly upon rasslin'! Another dumb move by Mickey.

Fuckin' Vince McMachon. Because he never had a piece of the pie, McMahon basically blasted "The Wrestler" saying it exposed the business of pro wrestling too much although his storylines have done just that for the past ten years.
Now that "The Wrestler" is getting awards and Oscar nominations, he's all over it.
This also isn't gonna work well for Jericho. Obviously because Rourke is the special guest they're gonna put him over (meaning, in wrestling gargon, that he's going to win). And results like these have proven disasterous for past wrestler's careers.
Look what happened to Bam Bam Bigelow's career shortly after losing to Lawerence Taylor at a past Wrestlemania. His career nosed dived.

Chris Jericho seems so full of himself. I think he's just scared that Mickey could kick his ass. He looked all pissed off over basically nothing. A small little comment. I want to see the wrestler because I like a lot of Mickey Rourkes movies, but I HATE wrestling. Plus RATT has two songs in it! \m/

Thrashaholica, hating wrestling shouldn't stop your enjoyment of "The Wrestler" at all, go see it! It's a fantastic flick and you seriously don't need to be a wrestling fan to enjoy it.
As for how Jericho came across in that clip, he's trying to build towards the confrontation he'll have with Rourke at WrestleMania, he was just playing his on-screen character. While you're correct in saying "Chris Jericho seems so full of himself. I think he's just scared that Mickey could kick his ass.", the same isn't necessarily true of Chris Irvine, the man who plays the Chris Jericho character.

Yeah, Bam Bam went to ECW (the real one) and became a bigger star than he was in the WWF. I don't think his career nose dived at all.
This match will happen and it will be interesting to see, not for the ring work though, even though Jericho is amazing in the ring, but for the story. Remember Dennis Rodman joining the nWo and teaming with Hogan at Bash at the Beach 97? Ok bad example but still.
Bring back Scott Hall!!!

Dude it's wrestling and if you watched it you would know that like Krame said Chris Jericho is just being his character which duh if he is planning to wrestle Mickey then he is going to be 100% in character for it. If he came off to those ways then if proves he is good at what he does.
As for Bam Bam bigger star?? Please in the 80's at the height of his career he was making way more cash than for ECW who at the time was super underground having wrestle matches at highschool gyms and old warehouses. He probably made half the money or less than with WWE or even when he was in WCW.
Anyone remember when Pete Rose met Kane? Kane destroyed him... Roddy Piper destroyed Morton Downey Jr... there have been cases where the celebrity loses... but it is very very rare indeed.

rous: Why would he diminish his Oscar chances by wrestling? His movie IS ABOUT wrestling!
Whoever said Bam Bam was a bigger star in ECW: I'm a huge ECW mark, but I must say that is false. You don't become a bigger star by wrestling in fairgrounds and bingo halls. I hate to say it, but ECW was basically an FCW/OVW type promotion, whether Heyman will admit it or not.
And of course, Mickey will be booked to win his match. In real life...I don't know. Mickey was a boxer..but then again, Jericho pwned Goldberg IRL. Scott Steiner would run in and rip their eyes out.

I can see the point in some people's posts. If I had not started to watch wrestling at 7 years old I would probably think it is lame too and believe me there is a lot of it I do think is lame. Out of a two hour TV show I watch maybe 20 mins or less total but it still has its moments where it is fun to me. I guess it is nostalgia from being a kid... I don't know. After watching it for over 20 something years it is hard to shake off.
To those that bash it you have the right to but it is entertainment. I know it is 100% fake and staged and I know there is a lot of cheesy shit but I enjoy it like a comedy or some lame movie. Get over it as people are allowed to enjoy what they want without others being dicks about it. I also enjoy watching documentaries on the History Channel, Discovery Channel, and Animal Planet. I am also a big horror movie and sci fi fan. People dig what they dig it is called life. Sure a MASSIVE part of my life is music (especially metal music) but I also like other genres of music (GASP!) outside of metal. I like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Keane, Death Cab For Cutie, Coheed And Cambria, Oceansize, and a ton of non metal bands. I am sure a lot of others here do to.
So get over yourself if someone likes wrestling and you think it is lame. I am sure you probably like something I think is lame. Not everyone is here to be like everyone else or like the same things obviously.

There's nothing better.
Wrestling is like theater/movies. No one goes to a movie to watch someone being blown up in a car and says "That's fake, that guy isn't dead, no one was in the car"
So why do people call wrestling fake when everyone know it is? Of course it's fake, but no one watches it because it's fake, they want to be entertained. Same as why people watch MMA and other sports, no one watches it because it's real, they watch it because they want to be entertained by what's going on.
TNA and ROH are better wrestling companies. WWE has been stale since 2002.

The Associated Press issued the following press release this evening saying Mickey Rourke won't be appearing at WrestleMania after all:
Mickey Rourke won't rumble with WWE superstar
HOUSTON (AP) — A spokeswoman for actor Mickey Rourke says he won't be taking his role as a professional wrestler into a real-life ring after all.
Paula Woods told The Associated Press on Wednesday night that Rourke will not wrestle WWE superstar Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 25 in April at Houston's Reliant Stadium.
Woods wrote in an e-mail that the Oscar-nominated actor "will not be participating in Wrestlemania. He is focusing entirely on his acting career."
Rourke portrays professional wrestler Randy the Ram in the acclaimed movie "The Wrestler." He made a surprise announcement about the wrestling event Sunday night on the red carpet before the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.
Rourke had said he was going to toss Jericho "around the ring like tossed salad."
Taken from http://www.wrestlingunlimited.com/news/235211429
Thank God its been called off. I'm a fan of Jericho and hope his career continues to do well. Having a match with Rourke would've been a huge pay day but losing to the actor would've killed his character and reputation. Gee, McMachon looks like a real idiot now. Serves him right. Phony wanker.

Anyone who remembers Jerry Lawler/ Andy Kaufman on Letterman in the 80's knows what this about.
It's called a storyline....which is why Mickey Rourke has a hard time keeping a straight face. Because he knows it is just more hype for his movie and more hype for Wrestlemania.

I haven't watched wrestling for years, but I'll be damned if I'm missing that.
Wrestling's ok. It's scripted, sure, but the fighting is entertaining and the bullshit stories are unintended comedy gold. I mentioned that I used to like wrestling to a friend at the pub last night, and he said "You DO know it's not real, don't you?" I asked him what his fave movies were and he responded with Pulp Fiction and several other wonderfully violent films. I asked him if he knew that no one really gets hurt in those films and that the characters weren't real people.
Entertainment is entertainment, even if it is just a bunch of half naked sweaty men beating each other over the head with aluminium chairs.

WCW, NWA, WWF all were awsome and wrestling was actually good back then I've been a fan since the beginning, but nowdays Vince and WWE deserve no respect. I was at a RAW match here in MN(home of wrestling) back in Sept and Chris cam out on his cell phone, walked straight to his car, didnt say a word to any fans. Everyone else on the roster did however.
