BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE: New Audio Interview With JASON 'JAY' JAMES Available
- Jan. 28, 2009
Bassist Jason "Jay" James of Welsh metallers BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE was interviewed earlier this week by Andrew Haug of Triple J's "Full Metal Racket" (based in Australia). Listen to the interview in streaming audio at the Triple J web site: Windows Media, Real Media (NOTE: The Jason "Jay" James interview begins around the 36-minute mark). Check out the program's entire playlist at this location.
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE has been confirmed as one of the main-stage performers at this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour, which is scheduled to kick off in early July. The trek will be headlined by SLAYER and MARILYN MANSON, with a yet-to-be-announced "special guest" (strongly rumored to be KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, who are unable to announce their participation due to their involvement with the Music As A Weapon IV tour this spring) also making an appearance on the same stage.
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE's new album, "Scream Aim Fire", has sold 274,000 copies in the United States since its January 2008 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Not really punk/thrash, more like modern "hardcore" + modern "thrash" (groove/post-thrash) + heavy metal + hard rock.
Punk/thrash is called crossover (which is pure metal genre). Examples of bands - Municipal Waste, D.R.I., S.O.D., M.O.D. late Exploited, early Nuclear Assault etc.

And I quote
'And call me an elitist, but seeing what stuff you listen to - you like the popular music that does not take any real time to fully understand it to be able to enjoy it, you just have to listen to it once. I am sorry, but you are not a metalhead :)'
What the hell are you on about dude? Yes I listen to the popular stuff that is easily digested and just makes my head move. I also listen to immensely challenging music as well. Cult of Luna? Opeth? Dream Theatre? Emperor? Dillinger Escape Plan? The aforementioned December. Have you even heard of, or listened to, December? Check 'em out they were signed to Earache a few years back, well heavy!
This is exactly the kind of bullshit my post was railing against. 'I'm sorry but you are not a metalhead'. Crap. And saying that BFMV aren't metal, well that's just retarded. you might not like the type of metal they play, but it is metal nonetheless. Why, in your expert opinion, isn't it metal? 'Cos it doesn't require more than a casual listen to 'get it'? Nonsense. You're trying to tell me that Sabbath weren't easy to listen to? That they weren't catchy? That they weren't popular? What about Maiden? Priest? Cos if they were easy to listen to, catchy and popular, then surely, by your standards, they couldn't possibly be metal.
I think I'll take you up on your offer. You are an elitist. Sitting on your self-appointed throne, pouring scorn on those who dare to like something other than your precious, ultra-obscure underground heroes. And don't take that comment to mean I'm saying the bands you like are shite. Some of the ones you mentioned I like (the song 'leprosy' by Death = \m/), others I've never heard of. I love dense, impenetrable, heavy, heavy metal. Fucking love it. But that won't stop me dancing my tits off when I go and see Prodigy live in April.
All you elitist, pompous fools out there. Chill Out!!

"Cult of Luna? Opeth? Dream Theatre? Emperor? Dillinger Escape Plan?" - all these bands are easy to get into and are heavily listened by non-metalheads.
In fact they are listened by people who think that their musical taste is far more superior then anybody else (even metalheads are not as elitist, the only exception to this are probably Black Metal fans), since this music is so progressive and contains 5 minute soloing or some symphonic orchestra in the background unlike thrash metal for example.
There are many people who for example enjoy some Nightwish, Leaves' Eyes, Theatre Of Tragedy and late Katatonia, but that's it, once you give them to listen something more serious, yet, more beautiful like for example this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8auLKJkuN4 they will listen to it once and tell you, that they don't like it, since it's boring, too heavy or lacks symphonic orchestra etc. These people usually never even consider themselves to be metalheads, they listen to 1-2 songs from albums, and everything they see translated on TV.
Never heard anything by December, gonna check them out, any suggestions of albums to start with? BTW, is it a deathcore band, 'cause I don't like deathcore.
Now about BFMV - if you think that songs like Tears Don't Fall, All These Things I Hate are metal, then I have no questions to you. To me they sound like alternative rock with some modern hardcore elements. And I never said that they are not metal because they don't require more then one casual listen to "get it", it's just because their metalcore is more hardcore then metal.
And calling me an elitist, man, you have not met real elitists in your life. Like people who hate any form of music other then Black Metal bands who are listened by as many as 100 people max, or jazz fanatics. Now those are real elitists. Me myself listens to any form of music except parodies on metal, and as I said I don't have anything against them really, I just dislike them for being listed in the wrong categories. I really like Prodigy too for example. I heavily listen to d'n'b and old school rock as well as Asian folk music. I like ambient and some classical music.
Peace man, thanks for insulting me for no reason!
