CRYPTOPSY Guitarist Quits
- Feb. 1, 2009
|
|
Guitarist Alex Auburn has announced his departure from the Canadian death metal act CRYPTOPSY. "There are many reasons why I must leave the band, and this has been going on for a while now, so I am quitting," Alex said in a statement released to BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "The band and I believe it is better for me to go, so I am moving forward." He continued, "I want to thank the guys in CRYPTOPSY for an adventurous and crazy 10 years. It's been a great ride. I will, especially, miss the fans a great deal and I want to thank all of you for your awesome support throughout those years. "Right now I need to take a break for a few months to reflect on my life and my future in music. "As far as music goes, I might start my own band next summer, but I don't know yet. In the meantime, I am open to good offers and to join other forces." "The Unspoken King", CRYPTOPSY's sixth full-length and first to feature new vocalist Matt McGachy, was released June 24, 2008 to a wide array of reactions. Flo Mounier explained his intention in reshaping the dynamics of the band to Decibel magazine: "I'm a fan of different sorts of music, and I think it's most fun when a band puts out an album that has elements of everything; you get this thing called diversity, not boredom. That's what we're trying to do. Still, I think people are going to be surprised how brutal this album is." Video footage of CRYPTOPSY performing live in Brno, Czech Republic in November 2008 can be viewed below.

This band should have died with Jon Levasseur's departure. I really wish they'd fucking split up, as The Unspoken King was a laughing stock. Flo has whored this band to death - I hope he's fucking happy...

Alex was a cool dude and a very important part of Cryptopsy... unlike the rest of the world I actually enjoy their new album more than anything they've released since None So Vile. It's nice to see bands experiment rather than recording the same album for decades, and aside from a few questionable vocal parts, I think they did a fine job.

Love the Unspoken King, it's possibly their best work since None So Vile. Evolution is a good thing, especially for a brutal death metal band. Hope they find a worthy replacement.

"I'm a fan of different sorts of music, and I think it's most fun when a band puts out an album that has elements of everything;" Yes, that is fun when the album isn't a generic BREE BREE HERE COMES THE HEAVY PART BRO piece of crap.
"you get this thing called diversity, not boredom." Well, this "diversity" is boring as hell.
"That's what we're trying to do. Still, I think people are going to be surprised how brutal this album is." Yes, this album is brutal as hell compared to the new album by Queen+Paul Rodgers.

doesn't have ANY original members, and hasn't for some time. I persoanlly think they should hang it up and all go their seperate ways and do their different projects and shit. For me the spirit of Cryptopsy that I began listening to 9 years ago is just gone.

Just shut the whole thing down already. The new album was terrible, the quality of the music dropped drastically after John left, just give up and move on.

The disdain Cryptopsy holds for their "old" fans is best exemplified by the "Dinner Time" track on myspace.
Divide and conquer huh Flo?

New stuff ispretty bad. Not suprising that members start quitting.
But to someone elsethat said it doesnt pay, that wrong. You can make money doing extreme music, some of them are actually millionaires. You just have to be smart, like any small business. But,everyone knows 85% of small businessesfail.

Maybe (and BIG maybe) Slayer. But try telling me that Cannibal Corpse or Morbid Angel are millionaires and I'll laugh my ass off.
Hell, Dimebag's net worth when he died was a little over 700K, and Pantera has sold more records than many extreme bands put together. If he wasn't a millionaire, you can be damn sure no one in death metal is. Show me a millionaire who plays in a death metal band, and I'll show you someone who either owns his own business on the side or got lucky in the stock market.
Not that I don't wish CC would be millionaires (because they deserve it), but let's be real here. They can probably make a living, but that's about it.

that Jon comes back to the band. That was a devastating loss to the band & they'll never be the same. Jon wrote the weirdest riffs and solos, without his songwriting they aren't nearly the trend-setters they used to be. Thought OWN was a good one, though.
Oh, and charging MONEY ($10) to get a pic with the band on this album's tour is mind-boggling and really sums them up these days. Too bad, really.

No disrespect meant, but Dimebag made very poor choices in his life, and the rampant drug use will drain your bank account.
If you do things right, you can make good money. But many are self destrcutive and such. I wont name anyone, since that wouldnt be cool, but i personally know a few that make more money than most on here could ever dream of making.
Hell, just part time i have made a decent amount of money playing, nowhere near that kind of money, but im also not in a signed band or touring right now. Merch is a biggie. Selling albums makes you almost nothing. And not signing contracts that will fuck you forever, which many have done, also.
But back on subject...Crytopsy is now a joke compared to how they used to be.

Good money in extreme metal? What are your sources of funds buddy, welfare?
There are no millionaires in extreme music. I'd dare say there are no more millionaires in music outside the mainstream and even there, funds might be harder to gather each passing year.
Any band selling lots of record and touring like machines for a few years will gather some good income BUT, it will soon end and they might have a hard time squeezing anything out of it later...

He actually has some sense. Core-topsy is atrocious, I used to absolutely love real cryptopsy, and flo was an inspiration as an extreme metal drummer but this new garbage is precisely that...garbage; and the fact that Flo basically shunned cryptopsy's previous fans for not liking this shithole of a new album pisses me off the most.

that Coretopsy employed the "Wall Of Death" on last years Summer Slaughter, previously used by Skinless and Lamb Of God among countless other bands. Never before have I seen such a quality band make a mockery of themselves to this extent. And let's not forget that Flo told a 17 year old Australian bloke to vote for an American president that wasn't even up for re-election on his myspace.

Some friends were at the Moncton show they did last year and I saw the pic that they were charging $10 for a pic with the band. It made me furious and thankful I didn't go. If a guy in a band asked for money for a pic, I would laugh at him and give my money to the bands that APPRECIATE it.
Plus that whole 'dinner time' thing or whatever it was called (making fun of Cryptopsy fans not liking the clean vox on TUK) made me laugh 1st time, then after that I felt disrespected, actually. Too bad, Flo's a maniac behind the kit, but egos and ca$h have bitten them in the arse. And this coming from someone listening to them since '93.
SHUT IT DOWN, Flo or get Jon back, the riff-master.
