DIR EN GREY Explains London Cancellation - Feb. 1, 2009
Japanese experimental metal band DIR EN GREY has issued the following update:

"To all of our fans in London: We are incredibly sad and disappointed that [Friday] night's [January 30] show at Brixton Academy was canceled. In case you were unclear, it was due to a failure of the London electrical grid.

"In any case, the show will be rescheduled at a later date, and both DIR EN GREY and MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE apologize to all of our fans for this unavoidable inconvenience. We know that many of you traveled very, very far to see us perform in London and stood in the cold for hours to get a good spot at the front of the stage. All of the members of DIR EN GREY and MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE were very much looking forward to this show for months and are were extremely gutted not to be able to perform for our fans. Despite our best efforts, at the end of the day it was beyond our control. Our management is already working out details to bring us back to London as soon as possible to make up for this unfortunate occurrence.

"Please check back for more information and how to obtain ticket refunds on Kerrang.com from Monday, February 2. We advise all ticket holders to retain their ticket stub.

"We appreciate all of your support and very much look forward to seeing you all as soon as we can."

DIR EN GREY will release its first North American DVD, "A Knot Of", on February 3 via The End Records. The DVD follows the band through three long mettle-testing years on the road, giving fans a window into DIR EN GREY's unique world.

i like the fact that some people would lambaste any hair metal band - from the good to the crappy ones, and most of those people would actually register as fans of this sort of music, which is nothing more than some stoned jamming, with a ver primitive rhythm.....

Jesus..... if it would be because of technique, most of the really up their own #$#$@ prog bands do have these guys for breakfast.... and as for songwriting there's pretty much none here !?!?!?! WHAT THE HELL's WRONG WITH mags and fans ???

People buy Tshirts cause they cannot copy them, and don't listen to the music anymore ! And the mags praise whatever band/company puts an ad and just cripple those who don't !

This is just pretentious sleep inducing ca ca !

Don't know what the hell is wrong with that guy. But I know I would be incredibly disappointed if DeG ever had to cancel a show that I was attending.

I'm looking forward to the DVD release though. This band's music, and overall artistic imagination just resonate with me like no other.

I said, this band music is pretentious ! And this is spoon fed by magazines like kerrang. Obviously canceled shows are a problem, but in the first place to see bands like these gaining recognition for something that is much more visually than aurally stimulating is just oh so wrong !!!

This band is pretentious? Man... do you even KNOW anything about this band? Before you go making a dumbass statement like that, do your homework. Go find out just how long these guys have been busting their ass to find the perfect sound for themselves.

Shit... if you think the reason this band is popular is due to media hype... think again. These guys have been releasing killer material for 10 years now, gaining an audience worldwide thanks to imports, the internet, and filesharing... and the media is just now starting to take notice. It's a bitch and a half to get anyone to even sit down and give their material a listen when everyone is so quick to write it off as 'anime metal' or whatever other dumb shit they assume.

Don't like it? Fine. I wouldn't expect most people to... it's angry, chaotic, sonically intense, and emotionally jarring stuff. But their legions of fans speak volumes for their music's ability to connect despite a massive language barrier, and that's something your bullshit, ignorant rhetoric will always fail to account for.

What did you SAY??!! LOL!!

Sorry if I mistype something. For someone who speaks 3 languages (me, not you) it sometimes gets confusing dickhead.

And BTW you really don't know shit about this band, so Fuck off :)

Greek English and Italian. FYI.
And no DIR EN GREY, are on the cover of KERRANG, that's why they are ahem - massive ! (dunno if they'll be in 2 months time) And some "weird" people like them because, they will try anything that is provided as an alternative, just to be different. If something is chaotic, it's by default, ahem lets say, difficult to perceive and possibly cacophonous / bad sounding ! So what you say is that i should nod my head to some Jap-wanna-be-extreme act for what ???? Why don't all these people listen to loudness for chrissakes !?!
hahahaha !

Because the art of music is to capture the idea you're trying to convey in sound. Be it cacophonous, melodic, or anywhere in between. And if you knew anything about this band, you'd see they're not 'wanna-be' anything. Musically, they do what they want, when they want. I know that may be hard to grasp if you're someone who must categorize everything, But if you can imagine the sound of pain, despair, regret, sorrow, anger, apathy... every bipolar non-nonsensical, and often times ironic human emotion... you can hear it within the scope of this band's catalog.

I don't think anyone was asking you to nod your head to it. In fact, I'm sure we're all better off knowing someone like you isn't a fan. But if someone says something ignorant about my favorite band, you can bet I'm going to correct their dumb ass.

As far as Kerrang and every other media outlet is concerned. Who cares? DeG fans don't need magazines to tell them the band is good. We already know it. They've made it this far without the media attention...fuck. Their Berlin and Paris shows on their first European tour in '05 SOLD OUT without any sort of promotion outside the internet. So good luck with that whole '2 months' theory.

...And lastly. Does it really matter here how many languages anyone speaks?

life is about trying to actually live it with the least possible pain, suffering, misery or it's aural equivalent. Would you like being subjected to pain ? would you enjoy being miserable ? Unless you 're a devious soul, you wouldn't so why would you want their aural equivalent ? Other bands do what they wanna do, with their musical abilities far exceeding DEGs and they go nowhere.

And let's stop and make an analogy. giger's paintings and sculptures are art. scary as they may be they are artistically worthy, because he has a certain amount of technique which he manages to apply in a certain way onto them.
Liking something that you in part don't understand, due to the language barrier, and that has lesser musical value, due to it's comparatively lower technical standard, doesnt seem to be the smartest thing of all to me !

Weirdness exists, but not everything that's weird is good.
It's the same thing with TOOL. They have very little musical merit, but good packaging and nice laser shows, that apply to those who like stoned jams. Or people liking DRONE - i mean at some point i reviewed one of those records, and it consistent of very very low noises every 2 minutes or so - i had to turn my amp all th way to the end to be able to hear anything ..... and i didn't like that, i thought it was a farce and not something musical, yet a guy that was prone to it, said it was GREAT ! An album that - couldn't be perceived as music, but just as sounds ? Why didn't he review a book instead, a sound would be made every time he'd turn a page!!!

Sorry about the rant, but this is a genuine issue....

Well for me, life is all about pain, misery, misfortune, it's through accepting, and embracing these aspects that we can truly appreciate the other more positive aspects. Have you ever cut yourself, just to watch the blood flow? Just to imagine all these little pieces... everything that keeps you alive... spill out... all the little contaminates...everything...positive and negative... it is glorious. Amazing... to burn holes in your skin... and then watch overtime as the cells repair it... is absolutely miraculous. If you embrace pain... you'll find the same energy, the same adrenaline rush that you would embracing something you love. It's like that whole Yin Yang thing... balance.

And as a musician myself, I totally disagree that Dir en Grey and Tool have lesser musical value. Technical isn't always good. It's atmosphere that makes the music... technicality is just physically impressive... or speed and precision with musical intricacy... that's impressive. But it all means nothing if it has no atmosphere... no message... in fact that's one of the great things Tool has done in music, is to show how powerful minimalism can be... especially after an entire decade of nothing but pop metal showboating and no substance.

I'm sorry you don't appreciate the type of music. I feel like you're really missing out... but whatever. To each their own it seems.
