AC/DC Not Performing At 'WrestleMania'
- Feb. 3, 2009
|
|
|
AC/DC is not performing live at WrestleMania XXV, which takes place on April 5 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Despite published reports that the band would play at the event, AC/DC's publicist confirmed to The Pulse of Radio that the group will not appear and will instead be in the midst of a European tour. Although it was reportedly announced by World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon that the band would play, that information was never officially confirmed by the group or its label, Columbia Records, and may have possibly been garbled in initial online reports.
Two AC/DC tracks, "Shoot To Thrill" and "War Machine", are being used as theme songs for WrestleMania XXV, which might have led some to believe that the band would perform the songs at the event.
AC/DC begins its European tour on February 18 in Norway and will be playing all over that continent through June 30.
The band's world tour in support of its latest album, "Black Ice", is expected to wind down in its Australian homeland by the end of 2009.

Despite the exposure to a much wider audience, good on the band for not bailing on their European fans the night of WrestleMania.
Horns Up!!!

First Rourke bailing out on a match with Jericho now this. To make matters even worse, the storyline which Randy Orton has IDE is flawed because steroid abuse can cause that disorder and Orton has been suspended for 'roids. Way to go Vinnie Mac!

Just wanted to add this last question to the WWE bashers. Name one metal band, just one festival or not that will be performing to that many fans this year or who's dvd's are always in the top 10 all year long. The whole No One Watches this is prretty far off don't you all think ?

to answer your point. Wrestlemania is irrelevant. Wrestlemania always draws a huge crowd or "pop" because of it's hype. It's been no secret that WWE's house show attendance and overall ticket sales have been down for years and their ad rate has taken a hit too for their televised events. It has nothing to do with a bad economy either they have been losing money since Vince bought WCW and MMA has gained a huge chunk of their audience. Wrestling's popularity has always gone in cycles but I'm having a hard time believing it will rebound this time. It's a watered down T&a show now and a shell of what it used to be. Good for you if you can still watch that garbage but to me pro Wrestling's last hoorah was the Monday night Wars!

For the week of Jan. 26, 2009, as by Nielson Media Research, WWE Raw was #4, with a rating of 3.2, watched by 5.31 Million people.
Top 4 shows for that week were as follows:
Rank: Show Network Rating Viewers (In Millions) #1: The Closer TNT 4.0 6.243 #2: Burn Notice USA 3.4 5.376 #3: Monk USA 3.3 5.393 #4: WWE Raw USA 3.2 5.31
2009 statistics so far...
WWE RAW Ratings - January 5: 3.4 - January 12: 3.5 - January 19: 3.9
And apparently this past Mondays episode of Raw (02/02/09) got a rating of 3.6
And still you say "Nobody watches"?
Now let me clarify a few things for my own behalf.
I've watched professional wrestling consistently for about 20 years now. Today's "professional wrestling" is not what it used to be. On any given episode of Raw, you get about 6 or 7 matches in 2 hours. It's filled with drama and story line. When Monday Night Raw debuted in the early 90's, you got a good 10 matches easily. So yes, it's greatly changed.
AC/DC is gigantic. But then again, so is Motörhead who has recorded two of Triple H's entrance themes, the theme for the now defunct faction "Evolution", and performed live at both WrestleMania X-Seven, and WrestleMania 21. Also, other notable acts such as Limp Bizkit, Saliva, Run DMC, Salt-N-Pepa, Ice-T, Drowning Pool and P.O.D. have also performed theme songs for the wrestlers live at WrestleMania events.
As far as my musical background, I invite you to check out my MySpace account at www.myspace.com/blueneostang just to get a sampling of what I enjoy. I'm quite an avid AC/DC fan, owning the majority of their discography on record, tape, and CD, along with a few DVDs and bootleg recordings. I would love to see them perform at WrestleMania, but things happen like this.
To "Ruined By Idiots", please define these "hillbillies and illiterates" you speak of, and please watch yourself, cause I'd hate for you to put your foot in your mouth instead of your ass.
Good Day!
