THIN LIZZY, MACHINE HEAD, ALICE IN CHAINS, AVENGED SEVENFOLD Confirmed For U.K.'s SONISPHERE - Feb. 23, 2009
THIN LIZZY, MACHINE HEAD, ALICE IN CHAINS, AVENGED SEVENFOLD and THE SWORD have been confirmed for the METALLICA-headlined inaugural Sonisphere festival, set to take place on August 1-2 at the legendary Knebworth Park, United Kingdom.

The festival billing is shaping up as follows (in alphabetical order):

ALICE IN CHAINS
AVENGED SEVENFOLD
LAMB OF GOD
LINKIN PARK
MACHINE HEAD
MASTODON
METALLICA
THE SWORD
THIN LIZZY

Knebworth's Sonisphere is a two-day camping event on Europe's first true touring rock festival, a globetrotting summer tour of supercharged rock 'n' roll. With events taking place in the U.K., the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Sweden and Finland, Sonisphere is set to be a continent-wide celebration of energy, volume, and everything fans love about rock music.

METALLICA frontman James Hetfield recently told Reuters about the band's participation in Sonisphere, "We did Monsters of Rock in the U.S. with VAN HALEN, SCORPIONS and others and it was a lot of fun, you get to know the bands, you're hanging out, staying in the same hotels. When the same bands get on the touring circuit together you get to see them more than once. It helps with the atmosphere and the vibe," he said, adding that Monsters of Rock was "one of the funnest times I've ever had."

METALLICA's Lars Ulrich talking about Sonisphere festivals:

should be on this festival too. Let's get some good British bands on there. They blew Lizzy away last year as well when they supported them.

Looks like this festival could be the final nail in the Download Fest coffin.

Apparently NIN are the special guests

Dude, you *have* to be joking. There are 14-year-olds who bash out better songs than Diamond Head these days. Honestly, I want to hide when I hear them, because they're so, so bad, and yet they take themselves so seriously. Oh, it's cringe-worthy. Like The Office, but a metal band.

The worst thing is, that their singer wants to be sleazy, but unlike a professional sleaze, like Robert Plant or Bon Scott (or even Sean Harris), the current guy from Diamond Head just comes across like your desperate almost-but-not-quite-friend, who does his best to be as good as the competition, but is in fact just a total lamer, with loads of self-criticism and absolutely no actual self-awareness.

The might heavy metal juggernaut that was Tatler and Harris, has truly been replaced by some kind of monster.

Dude, I saw Linkin Park last year - I was pleasently surprised - the gig kicked arse.

Granted, I'd be going for Metallica and Machine Head, but the other acts are good.

Just need to convince them to come to AUS...
