GLENN DANZIG: New Video Interview Posted Online
- Feb. 25, 2009
Eric Blair of "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show" conducted an interview with Glenn Danzig at the Musink Tattoo Convention & Music Festival on February 22, 2009 at the Orange County Fair & Expo Center in Costa Mesa, California. Watch the eight-minute chat below.
DANZIG is currently working on a new studio album, tentatively due before the end of the year. The CD will feature a song called "Long Dark Road", which is decribed by Glenn as "very creepy and echo-y. It's like an old kind of '50s-ish kind of song. I've been having in my head probably for about six, seven, eight years. I haven't gotten around to recording it, and I recorded it, so it's pretty cool."
DANZIG last year toured as part of 2008's "Blackest of the Black" trek which also included DIMMU BORGIR, MOONSPELL, WINDS OF PLAGUE and SKELETONWITCH
DANZIG's lineup for the trek was as follows:
Glenn Danzig - Vocals Tommy Victor (PRONG) - Guitar Steve Zing - Bass Johnny Kelly (TYPE O NEGATIVE) – Drums

It's not "Danzig" unless John Christ, Eerie Von, and Chuck Biscuits are back.

Glen should hang it up, his vocals are gone and he needs to stop dressing like a teenager from hot topics,
I don't think teenage kids are trying to model themselves after a 55 y/o + one hit wonder

I think I saw him for the last time too. He is too old for that life style. He'll always have my respect for being a legacy but I think he is beyond Rick Rubin salvation now. He did some heavy damage to his vocal chords (3 bands and a huge career). I would like if he would just sit down with a guitar and write some good songs acoustically for other people or re-did some of his from the not so hot 5 - 8 danzigs. Anyways, his touring band has always been weak compare to Rick / Zigs initial line up.

What I got out of glenn's response was that can you blame all of ww2 and the holocaust on hitler. At the end of the day, "i was just following orders" doesn't exclude followers from responsibility of their own actions. really good interview btw.

I was a big fan from Danzig 1-3... great records when the atomic basher Chuck Biscuits was drumming. This is the first interview I've ever seen w/ Glenn. He actually does an okay interview and seems like a down to earth dude. very cool. I'll check out the new record no doubt.
anyone else find it funny how the tune Mother was on Danzig I ...but it didnt become a radio hit until like 10 or 12 years later?
money in the bank at least.

I'd offer, but he'd probably like it.
Anybody who went to the Chicago show last fall knows that Glenns vocals where great (I have a copy of the show to prove it, so fuck you haters), even though he was sick, he sounded amazing. I will say yeah he is looking old, but what do you want the dude to do, stop aging? Yeah, 1-4 are classics, but there is SO much more out there that is good. I would recommend the Lost Tracks of Danzig, Danzig 777, or Circle of Snakes for those of you into the old stuff. You won't like everything, but the songs are killer (Black Mass, Coldest Sun, Without light I am, Warlock, You should be dying, black Angel White angel, Netherbound, when We where dead, Skull Forest, Pain is like an animal, all these songs stack up and then some to the old songs...)
And to my other Danzig fiends, there will be NO original Danzig lineup reunion, Ever, so get used to it. He's been on the outs with Eerie since Danzig 5, outs with Chuck and John since Danzig 4, and he's not in a position where he NEEDs them or anything (fuck the show I went to had pleanty of people, more than expected), and yeah, I admit I would like to see it too, but I saw it back in the day, and honestly, I've never seen him with another lineup that did not know the songs or anything, so I really don't miss those guys. John's guitar playing was very memorable, but Tommy and Todd did John Christ's solos justice when they played them, so I don't see what the big deal is. Fuck I wonder if Chuck or John even play their instruments at all anymore. Eerie keeps busy putting out albums and whatnot...

Of corse kids are dressing like Glenn, but the Glenn in his physical prime, probably not so much now. Fuck, You watch the old Misfits bootlegs (like Detroit '83) and tell me that Trent Reznor did not copy his image down to a fucking hair. Tons of people did, and the reason is he's an original dude who has created not just a few good albums, but a "Legacy of Brutality", and who else his age can say that? I can't think of many beyond Priest, Lemmy, Al Jourgenson, Jello Biafra, Ian from Fugazi, Nick Cave, Henry Rollins and Iron Maiden. He came before most other punk outfits, before thrash, death metal, black metal, etc. He's been in the mix a LONG time, and you don't have to like him or his music to know his career is to be respected.

Danzig actually said in that interview "growing up in New York". Dude, you're from Lodi, NJ. You grew up in New Jersey. You didn't grow up in New York.
