TIMO TOLKKI To Record New Album With Former STRATOVARIUS Members - Feb. 25, 2009
Timo Tolkki (REVOLUTION RENAISANCE, STRATOVARIUS) has announced that he will record another album with former STRATOVARIUS members Tuomo Lassila (drums) and Anti Ikonen (keyboards). Tentatively titled "Return To Dremspace", the CD is slated for a September 2009 release. The fans will decide the name of the project in some sort of contest. Tolkki says, "If the fans decide that it should be called STRATOVARIUS, then it will. Then I will face the consequences, but that will be one interesting trial, I tell you that."

Regarding the musical direction of the CD, Tolkki said, "It has been 15 years from [STRATOVARIUS' 'Dreamspace'] album, so it will be interesting, for sure... It's not a 'remake,' but a brand new album. A closure for [what] I consider to be the end of STRATOVARIUS. It completes the cycle and returns to the beginning."

Tolkki drew up and signed an official waiver on May 20, 2008 giving up all rights to the STRATOVARIUS name. The remaining STRATOVARIUS members — Timo Kotipelto (vocals), Jens Johansson (keyboards) and Lauri Porra (bass) — have since announced plans to carry on with new guitarist Matias Kupiainen.

Sorry, but Tolkki is Stratovarius and Stratovarius i sTolkki, period!
Without Tolkki, the remainig members are a body without mind and soul; just a bunch of losers trying to make some money with the name that someone else forged long time ago!!!

COMMENT | As much as I hate to see Strato without Tolkki...

I'm predicting that their new album, Polaris, will be better than anything Tolkki has put out since Destiny.

This is great news. Last STRATOVARIUS records were lame, probably because that pussy singer Kotipelto whinning and crying because he wanted to sing his songs.

This era of STRATOVARIUS is dark and progressive/technical metal at its best. Expect darkness, madness and twilight time songs.

I heavily disagree. Kotipelto, Jens, Jörg, Jari and even Lauri are also part of strato history. Without them we wouldn't have all thos great albums. At least not in the awesome quality we have them now. And Tolkki is out of his mind. This guy destroyed the band twice and didn't pay any respect to the other band member nor the fans. I hate to say it but Tolkki seriously fucked up and there is no reason to defend him. The other 4 guys have every right in the world to continue as Stratovarius since Tolkki showed us with his deeds that he doesn't give a shit about the legacy of Stratovarius.

The new album should be released under the name Gorgoroth. That'd be EPIC! :)))
