VELVET REVOLVER Management Shoots Down New Singer Rumors - Mar. 10, 2009
A spokesperson for Sanctuary Artist Management, which represents VELVET REVOLVER, has shot down Internet rumors that VR had picked Gord Prior, a singer with a Canadian-based band called BLU BONES, as its new lead singer.

"Gord Prior isn't the new guy," the spokesperson told Music Radar. "In fact, no decision has been made as to who the singer is."

According to management, Prior was sent tapes of two new VELVET REVOLVER instrumental tracks and asked to write words and melodies and to then sing over the music.

"But he's just one of numerous singers that tapes went out to," says the spokesperson. "Gord submitted his demos just like everybody else. He wasn't even asked to come in and do a formal audition. I don't know why these videos [see below] get out there, but that's just the nature of the Internet."

Read more from Music Radar.

There's been little news out of the VELVET REVOLVER camp lately regarding a new singer for the band, although auditions have reportedly been ongoing. Bassist Duff McKagan told The Pulse of Radio last month that the group has been a little frustrated with the submissions they've gotten and even wondered if they would ever find the right guy. But McKagan also said that things have recently taken a positive turn. "In the last, I would say, about eight weeks, we got three guys in that were all really good — like, far and above, more fitting than the rest," he said. "So I can say this much: we're headed in a very positive direction, and you might be hearing something soon."

VELVET REVOLVER has been searching for a new vocalist since dismissing Scott Weiland last April.

Although several names have been rumored online, the only singer known to have auditioned with the band is ex-SPACEHOG frontman Royston Langdon.

VELVET REVOLVER also parted ways with RCA Records late last year and has not announced a new deal yet.

Duff McKagan's side band, LOADED, will issue its third album next month, while McKagan continues his career as a columnist at SeattleWeekly.com and a financial columnist at Playboy.com.

VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash is working on a solo album, while drummer Matt Sorum recently launched a clothing line and store.

this band sucks...music is about good songs, these guys don't have any.

yes, slash is a great guitarist, but with every lame song he plays on, and with his wife getting involved with his affairs, it makes him look like a clown!!!

he was good with g n r and with snakepit but these guys are a joke!

the guitarists on chinese democracy have proven that slash doesn't have to be in g n r to make them agreat band.

go ahead all you pussies that are stuck in the 80's, attack me, but it's a fact, slash is washed up, and those other guys that were in g n r are totally replaceable...hmmm, is that a word?

He should not be the new singer. He sounds very mundane and common.

Harmonies on the second tune sound like Axl a bit.

VR has great potential. I just don't like Matt's lame drumming which kills the beat.

That was flat, lame and uninspired.

He is trying to sound like Axl!

Just suck it up and send the demos to Axl and let get this inevitable, supposedly "impossible" GNR Reunion rolling!

It is never going to happen, just like the Eagles, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Ratt, Motley Crew, and Police reunions.

Never ever ever!

Ever!

Yea, right!

Velvet Revolver is a very good hard rock band and i cant realy name any better in the last few years, but the competition isnt that hard either, Nickelback, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, U2. so if you compare to these bands then VR are very good.

I dug the 2 VR discs. They need a charismatic and skilled frontman at the Axl/Weiland level though or they are sunk.

I am a big VR and GNR fan and I hate to admit it, but the music sucks even more than the vocalist. Have a close listen, the drums on this track are lame, they need to get rid of Sorum and get a better drummer. I would even prefer Steven Adler (if he is off the gear)

remember those are just demos. The GNR ChiDem leaks sounded flat compared to the actual release, for example.

Scott didn't just write lyrics. He brought his seemingly endless talent for writing slinky and often psychedelic-tinged melodies. Big shoes to replace!

the guys in VR want to believe it or not, they will be fucking done before they even hit the stage. It's just like a movie being filmed that's already getting bad press about strife on the set & going overbudget. You hear about it for so long that by the time it hits theaters, no one gives two shits.

is it me or this guy is trying to sound like axl ? ? ?
he's no good for vr. matter of fact, if they don't pull out the right guy for the job, it'll be the end of them. weiland was high up there, so it's gonna be hard! and of course, i agree that where duff and slash belong is with axl and izzy, and that's in gn'r. bring the boys back and of course that means steven 'popcorn' adler on drums. all the way baby!
