DREAM THEATER: New Album Title, Track Listing, Artwork Revealed - Mar. 12, 2009
Progressive metal veterans DREAM THEATER have set "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" as the title of their tenth studio album, due on June 23 via Roadrunner Records. In addition to the standard-version CD, the effort will also be available on vinyl LP, as well as a three-disc, special-edition CD that will include the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes of the album and a CD of six cover songs, the titles of which will be revealed at a later date.

Six weeks prior to the June 23 street date, Roadrunner will release one cover song per week through digital retailers.

DREAM THEATER commenced work on "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" — the band's second for Roadrunner, following up 2007's "Systematic Chaos" — in October of last year.

Drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci are once again at the helm as producers, while Paul Northfield mixed the record.

"Black Clouds & Silver Linings" track listing:

01. A Nightmare to Remember
02. A Rite of Passage
03. Wither
04. The Shattered Fortress
05. The Best of Times
06. The Count of Tuscany

A video for the first single, "A Rite of Passage", will be shot in late March.

Mike Portnoy played a one-minute "teaser" for the band's forthcoming album on the February 27, 2009 edition of Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM. The clip is available for streaming below.

Portnoy previously stated about the upcoming CD, "Imagine a DREAM THEATER album with 'A Change Of Seasons', 'Octavarium', 'Learning To Live', 'Pull Me Under' and 'The Glass Prison'... all on one album... COULD YOU HANDLE IT?? Excited? I sure am!!!!"

The band will embark on a world tour in support of the album beginning in Europe throughout June which will be followed by the second edition of the band’s "Progressive Nation" tour featuring ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA, PAIN OF SALVATION and BEARDFISH throughout North America in July/August.

Mike Portnoy will guest on "Eddie Trunk Live" on Sirius (channel 19) / XM Radio (channel 53) on Monday, March 16. The program airs from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. EST.

DREAM THEATER's "Chaos In Motion 2007/2008" double DVD set sold just under 9,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 on the Top Music Videos chart.

That album cover is an instant classic! Looks so good! Bless these guys for sticking to their guns musically. Kinda sucked they remixed Pull Me Under, etc. on the greatest hit album b/c it sounded "too 80's" so the fuck what! That's why I love the original!

Hopefully when I buy the vinyl, it won't have the second to last song printed twice on both sides of the vinyl like my Systematic Chaos record. Sucked too since the last song was my favorite and I got another Ministry Of Lost Souls instead >.<

Not really feeling the cover... but it does remind me of Awake, so maybe that's a good thing. That album kicked massive ass.

Thank you....

I knew that I couldn't be the only one who didn't like the Images & Words remixes.... I've been online since the late 80's. NOBODY had a problem with the triggered drums or even knew that the snare was a triggered sample until Portnoy got in the press and complained about it years later.... All of a sudden, every geek started slamming the drum sound... I think the remix sounds pretty silly--this awkwardly dry snare pushed up front and an overall attempt to make the entire track sound like it was recorded and mixed in 2007. For me, that lush, reverb heavy early 90's sound added to the atmosphere of Images & Words....

I think half of it was trying to slap Prater in the face.

Their live shows are soulless displays of sneering 'I can do this, bet you can't' musicianship, but I always enjoy the studio albums. This one looks very promising.

If you really have seen DT live, your comment makes no sense, since they play the album tracks note for note with little improvisation.

Bring it on! I love that there are only six songs - epics galore!!

oh, like I'm the first person to ever post a negative opinion on blabbermouth. Your favorite band is not everyone's favorite band. Get on with your day.

I, to an extent, like and respect this band, and usually look forward to what they are doing. Just never loved their singer. Sorry if that upsets you.

Doesn't upset me. But I obviously upset you enough to call me a blind fan boy.
Don't know how you got all that from a dozen words but relax and maybe have a wank.
I don't care much for Labrie either, but I don't have the need to diss him.
