Screaming For Vengeance kicks this album's ass, and it's still not their best. As stated above, play Painkiller it's entirety!
THIS IS THE PAINKILLER!!!!

Gimme a break.
Rob could NOT handle singing that entire album night after night.
I love Priest and have tremendous respect for Rob, but let's get real...he's 57 and he simply doesn't have the range he once did.
He can barely wheeze his way through the song Painkiller nowadays. It's an amazing song but I'd rather they just dropped it from the set instead forcing us to watch Rob try to hit those legendary highs.
He can still nail isolated notes (Victim of Changes is always spot on) but an entire album of him screaming when he was in his prime is just too much.

1. They've played Breaking the Law, Living After Midnight, and Metal Gods a thousand times before and would likely have played them on this tour anyway.
2. You Don't Have to be Old, Grinder, and United are not stellar songs, but they don't suck either.
3. Rapid Fire, The Rage, and Steeler are prime "deep cuts" that justify the price of admission by themselves.
Plus, they will hopefully be playing several other great old songs in addition to these, and if it all goes over well, they'll probably do the same thing for Screaming and Painkiller on future tours. Also, who knows, maybe we'll even get special treats for the fortieth anniversaries of Sin After Sin, Stained Class, and Hell Bent for Leather.

Halford cannot sing the *song* Painkiller every night with sterling results, let alone the entire Painkiller *album*. British Steel, which is more NWOBHM, is easier on him yet still classic. I would like to see this, and I've stayed away from Priest reunion shows over the last five years...because I don't want to be disappointed.

I was hoping for Nostaradamus in it's entirety as well. I bet they thought it would be more popular, warranting a full tour dedicated to it. I'll take British Steel. 6 songs I've never seen them play live before. good enough

They are opting for this because it will sell tickets... if they came out and said we are playing our entire new double disc album than the casual fan and some diehard fans would not go see this show. By playing this old album which contains "Breaking The Law" and "Living After Midnight" they can get some nostalic old fans to come to the show who haven't heard anything new by them since they were in high school. It is the same reason Iron Maiden has had such successful tours performing the older material. There still is a very large demographic for these types of bands and shows that don't listen to a lot of metal or care as much as we do to get online but if they hear Judas Priest is playing some old 80s album they loved then they will go to the show.

oh c'mon! I saw Rob with Priest in June 08, and yes, we were all noticing his age catching up to him! But, I saw Priest again now in March 09, and something has happend to him! He was fucking amazing, the high pitched screams was top notch (he nailed the intro scream on Between the hammer and the anvil spot on for fuck sake:D) Painkiller was almost like the studio version, and he didnt stand like the hunchback of notre dame when he sang it! I got chills down my spine, so I dont know what has happend, but something is changed! (maybe he quit smoking again?)
So all you guys that are going to see Priest in the near future; you have a treat in store!:D
I found a shitty recording of painkiller the night I saw them, but at least you get a impression ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_KJGbxImZk

Yeah, when I saw them on the Metal Masters tour last year, Rob seemed to loosen up as the show went on. By the end, he was pacing the stage fast, waving his arms around and looking pretty lively.
I always thought he might have a bad back which prevented him from really moving around excessively onstage, or all those leather getups weigh him down. Who knows?
Like any singer, he has good nights and bad nights, but at his age, it's more of a crapshoot unfortunately.
I just think pie-in-the-sky suggestions that Priest casually perform the entire Painkiller album as if they were all still 30 or 40 years old is ridiculous on its face.

is next year! Why not wait and do it properly next year?? Seems to me that they are really afraid that they have lost many fans with Nostradamus and this is a way to bring them back, fast. Hey Priest, you don“t need to do that. The old Priest atleast believed in themselves. What about Sad Wings of destiny and Staind class. To me British steel is maybe their fourth-fifth best album, but they did breakthrough with it i know that.

...or he's a f*cking idiot. BRITISH STEEL sucks ass? Puh-leeze.
I may favor some other Priest albums myself, but that 1980 masterpiece deserves it's massive reputation.
This show will be worth going to simply to hear THE RAGE and STEELER in a live setting. I'll be at the St. Charles (St. Louis) show. No question.
As far as the rest of the set...It would be cool to see Priest switch out some other songs from last year's set (which was amazing btw). A deep cut from SCREAMING and a different track from PAINKILLER would be cool.
Regardless...I'm there. Saw Priest last summer and they were amazing. Rob sounded great and was more animated than on the Reunion shows. Metal Gods indeed...

They's play the radio hits anyway so the rest of the album would be cool. I would prefer Sad Wings but then I would be rocking out in the middle of a crowed of silent people who would suddenly go ape when Sad Wings was over and the drums for Living After Midnight started up.
That's what happened when I saw them in August 2008. All these morons looking perplexed at each other during classics like Dissident Aggressor ('This must be off the new album.') and then screaming their heads off for Another Thing Coming. Even in the Internet age, a lot of people seems to live under rocks. Still an awesome show for the real fans, though. Rob sang well that night.

By the way, didn't British Steel come out in 1980? That means the 30th anniversary would be next year. Oh well.

ghostofmetalpast: That story about the crowd reaction to Dissident Aggressor is hilarious (and sad, of course, at the same time).
Fred Is Dead: I agree completely -- Saints in Hell would be the ultimate. I think all us Blabbermouthers need to start a movement to get Priest to play the entire Stained Class album!
