SLAYER To Release 'Psychopathy Red' 7" Single As Part Of Third Annual 'Record Store Day' - Mar. 24, 2009
"Psychopathy Red", the first new track from SLAYER since 2006's thrashterpiece "Christ Illusion", will be available as a seven-inch vinyl disc beginning Saturday, April 18, 2009 as part of the third annual Record Store Day. Only 5,000 of these limited edition discs will be manufactured worldwide, and will be available exclusively at participating independent record stores. Log on to www.recordstoreday.com for the list of participating stores.

The blood-red vinyl "Psychopathy Red" seven-inch collectors item will be packaged in a special Russian crime scene "evidence envelope" (see image below), as the song was inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, a.k.a. the Rostov Ripper, who confessed to brutally murdering 56 children. The song was recorded by the band — guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo — in a Los Angeles recording studio last October.

April 18 marks "Record Store Day," the annual day that celebrates the unique culture surrounding the more than 700 independently owned record stores across the U.S. and hundreds of similar stores internationally. The members of SLAYER chose to unleash "Psychopathy Red" on this day — and only through independent record stores — to acknowledge the support those outlets have offered to the band and to metal music over the years.

SLAYER is currently in a Los Angeles studio recording a brand-new album due out this summer. The band will co-headline with MARILYN MANSON on the five-week Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, set to kick off July 10 in Sacramento, California. In addition, Kerry King and Tom Araya are set to make a special appearance at the Ephiphone Revolver Golden Gods Awards to be held in Los Angeles on April 7, where they will present the "Best Live Band" award to SLIPKNOT. SLAYER was presented with its first Golden Gods Award in 2004 when the band was named "Best Live Band."

Multi-camera video footage of SLAYER performing the new song "Psychopathy Red" at the B1 Maximum club in Moscow, Russia on November 29, 2008 can be viewed below. Also included is backstage footage from the Moscow concert.

I'm really sick of hearing about Psychopathy Red. Not that it's a terrible song, it's not amazing either. Every Slayer post in the past 6 months seems to mention this song.

It's probably because that's the only new Slayer song that's out right now. Anyways I'm digging it.

King said previously that they'd recorded three songs at that session. Why not release them instead of one everybody has? CLassic Slayer riff though, especially the variation after the solos.

PS Blabbermouth - Mastodong review much?

COMMENT | Only 5000 are going to be made...

too bad they aren't individually numbered. Each of the 700 or so stores are going to get 6 or 7 copies per store. Seems pretty limited. I like the cover. I still have my limited edition numbered "Decade Of Aggression" 2 CD set in the metal case from 1991. There was 10,000 of those made, I got number 409.
