TOOL To Tour This Summer - Mar. 25, 2009
According to a post on TOOL's official web site, the band will embark on a tour this summer. No dates have yet been announced, but it is widely expected that TOOL will fill one of the remaining headlining slots for this year's Lollapalooza festival. The group would join JANE'S ADDICTION, DEPECHE MODE, THE BEASTIE BOYS, KINGS OF LEON and THE KILLERS at the top of the bill for the event, which is scheduled for August 7-9 at Grant Park in Chicago. Chicago Tribune music columnist Greg Kot was the first to report the Lollapalooza rumor, citing "multiple industry sources" for the news, although Lollapalooza organizers have yet to officially announce any acts.

A festival spokesperson told MTV.com that the lineup will be unveiled officially on April 21.

This year will be the fourth that Lollapalooza has been staged as a destination festival in the Windy City, following more than a decade as a traveling event.

Brad Angle of Guitar World magazine recently conducted an interview with TOOL guitarist Adam Jones. When asked how the songwriting process for the band's new album was coming along, Jones replied, "It's been coming along... great! [laughs] No, we've been on hiatus. I'm writing and [bassist] Justin [Chancellor]'s been writing, but [frontman] Maynard [James Keenan] has been working on his wine. We've all just been taking some time away from each other, which has been nice. I've also been working on producing some comics."

TOOL has been on break from touring and writing since early 2008, following nearly two years of supporting their most recent studio album, 2006's "10,000 Days", which marked its first set of new material since 2001's "Lateralus".

In December, Maynard James Keenan revealed that he had been working with A PERFECT CIRCLE guitarist Billy Howerdel on new material for a possible new release. When asked about releasing the material or touring, he stated, "I doubt if we'll do any touring or, you know, do a full album," he said. "We might do some one-off shows here and there if the timing's right and it seems like a good vibe and a smart thing to do. But most likely we'll just kind of concentrate on, you know, one or two songs at a time, rather than investing all the time and money and effort into making those plastic discs that no one cares about anymore."

A TOOL live show is nothing short than being spectacular. Just make sure you roll a few joints before th show because it will make it that much cooler.

I live between Seattle and Vancouver and am fortunate to have an amazing outlet for live music. I've seen pretty much seen everyone I wanted to see live, Page & Plant, Floyd to Slayer, Pantera(8x's) and I have seen Tool 9 times since Opiate came out and I will never miss them. For those who havent seen them, make it a priority to get there. I have taken people who weren't fans to shows and Tool completly blew them away. There live sound is equal to cd quality, and their stage show is amazing.

See you all at the Mastodon show on the 22 at Neumos

Obviously you people don't know shit about Tool. They annually are known for their April fools jokes and their predictable schedules. They haven't wrote an album or release material so they won't tour. I guarantee this is an April fools joke.

...if it bit him on his hymen. Guy's got his tongue so far up Wilco's asses that he can only hear their digestive tracts working. No wonder he likes such crap music. If you are curious, just look at his list of the best music of 2008. This punk has a tin ear for sure.

I have a close friend that works for LiveNation, and last week he told me that they plan to tour, and intend to play our local shed. I know it's hard to believe, since historically they never really tour without a new album to support, but stranger things have happened. I really hope so, they completely avoided our area for the entire 10,000 Days run.

being in love with this band, first saw them down here in new zealand when they were touring lateralus, that was amazing, i loved the stage setup for that tour, then they came back on the same tour too which was awesome, and the setlist was really long and changed every show when they toured for that album, but for the ten thousand days tours most shows were very similar in terms of the setlist, i saw them headline the big day out festival and they are so much better doing their own show, they are not a festival band. But overall this is great news that they are touring again, best band on the planet for me

Some possibilities that I have considered.

1. April Fools Joke- This I totally believe, but their previous jokes have been along the lines of "something fucked up happened to the band" or "someone died" or "Maynard found Jesus" only to be followed by "gotcha!!". I don't think we'd get a "sorry, fuck you fans, we're not touring!" Actually, Maynard did find Jesus a few years ago. It turned out to be a bum living under a bridge that he brought home, gave him a shower and some clean clothes and drank wine with him. Maynard is a good dude.

2. Tour for long awaited live DVD- Possibly!!! I hope!

3. Tour to road test new material- Could signal a return to more simpler music from their Opiate/Undertow period, but I don't think so.

4. The beginning of their Greatful Dead "We're just going to tour fuck releaseing new music that people are gonna steal anyway" period. I hope this isn't true but they have threataned it.

Well, plenty of cases for the tour, only one against. Since they didn't play Charlotte on the last tour........

I hope they make up the Missoula, MT date from their last tour. Someone died in Billings the night before and then Maynard suddenly 'got sick' and they skipped Missoula. Hmmmm.
